Milk screenwriter is a bit of controversy

Dustin Lance Black has a lot to look forward to this month. Not only is the Oscar-winning writer of Milk being honored tonight in L.A. by gay youth-mentoring group LifeWorks, but in a couple of weeks he will be one of three grand marshals of New York City's Pride March.

There's so much more, but it's too much to list here.

Sadly, earlier this week, Black was confronted with the ugly side of being a public figure…

A website posted three-year-old photos of Black engaged in what appears to be risky sex.

"It is unfortunate that individuals and other outside parties are trying to profit from material which is clearly private," Black said in the statement released to me Friday afternoon. "I have had the privilege to speak to people across the country, both gay and straight, on a number of critical issues including safe sex. More important than the embarrassment of this incident is the misleading message these images send. I apologize and cannot emphasize enough the importance of responsible sexual practices."

A source tells me that the other man in the photo is someone Black was dating at the time. Black's lawyers are said to be seeking legal action to stop distribution of the pics.

Fortunately, my source said, Black is not allowing this hiccup to stop him from continuing his work in support of gay rights, particularly on issues pertaining to young people.

Why do people insist on flaunting their ignorance like it's some sort of badge of honor?

Those people probably got a boner or found themselves staring a little too long at some Calvin Klein ad. Their flaunting is a way to mask their shame of being what they hate, so it's ultimately a form of self-loathing.

Lots of people take photos or video of themselves having sex. It's really not a big deal.

Well...yes it is. Sex is like the biggest deal in the world ever. Look at all the laws that are based on it, the fact that we wouldn't be here without it and that your psychology (right word?) changes (in some cases drastically) when you do have it. The whole taking photos thing is a big deal as well, I forget who said it but basically, in today's media-Internet obsessed world, if someone asks you to pose for a photo/make a video whilst having sex, it will be posted online somewhere. Dustin Lance Black should have been aware of that as now he just looks like a hypocrite (and worse depending on what exactly the photo is of).

If everyone in the world was gay we would die out (Don't give me no science bullshit either), and that's what makes it WRONG.The only way the human race can survive is by men and women having sex, not 2 men or 2 women.

You have to admit that this statement is kind of true, apart from the WRONG part. It all depends on your opinion on sexual issues, I personally think Regan is entitled to say that gay sex is wrong because (as this thread shows) some people just think that anal sex in general is wrong. I wouldn't say gay sex is wrong simply because I don't want to offend, but in my opinion you can't really say that sex is 'wrong' or 'right', unless your getting into health issues...and anal sex can affect your health, but of course so can genital sex in some cases. I know this conclusion was helpful:D
