This thread may sink as I don't know of anybody on the boards that is into the same kind of music that I am, but I recently unearthed a new band I'm really into and wanted to share it with thy fellow Schmoes. The band is Phoenix and their music is somewhere in between the Indie and Alternative genres.

I picked up their EP a few months ago and was immediately hooked on "Lisztomania" and "1901." I bought the LP just last week and I'm loving every track.

I'd say they share characteristics with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, Interpol, Santigold, and contain a slight touch of The Killers in there somewhere.

I've always found them to be incredibly overhyped by people, they release at least one or two good songs per album but the rest comes off as either disposable or a lame version of The Strokes. They shouldn't be too unknown though, they performed on SNL and have definitely gotten a lot of airtime. With all that said, Lisztomania and 1901 are the good tracks on this album but that's kind of it for me.

I am so completely in the minority about these guys. My best firend loves them and constantly gets me to love this album and I just don't get it. It SOO poppy and cold and artificial. It really feels like listening to pure sugar.

I'm kinda glad this music does not ignite any pleasure triggers within me because it's easy to hate with its prevalence. Like my hatred doubles as a result. It's silly, but true. Especially when multiple people thought this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1ywFh2AZLg) was a good idea. It kinda kills any goodwill directed toward Phoenix.

I really like some Phoenix songs, but I'm still not a huge fan. If you like 1901 you should hear this remix, it's a banger, trust me.

I appreciate the responses. I didn't think Phoenix was that prevalent-- I had to discover them on my own.

I can understand the critisms. Phoenix is "pure sugar," I can't deny that, but that's why I enjoy listening to them. As I mentioned previously, so are The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and MGMT. These are the kind of bands that make you feel good while listening to their music. Granted, I always have to pop in some Bowie, Deep Purple, or Radiohead to balance out a healthy listening diet.
