Of course it is my favorite movie from my child hood, but I would like to know what others think about the Mini Magician, and Mad Mardigen, as well as if you were about 7 years old when you watched this, did the pig scene scare the nipples off your ass?
P.S Warwick Davis is the reason LPs aren't being discriminated against much anymore

Awesome movie! Granted I haven't seen it since I was about 10, but god, how many times I saw this in my childhood! I wonder how well it holds up today, but for now, I'm totally with you that this is one of the best and most underrated fantasy films of all time. And of course, Warwick Davis is awesome and it's great to see an actor of his stature getting a lead role in a Hollywood epic at least once in history.

I first saw Willow when I was just a wee lil lad and, like most 80's fantasy movies, remember that it frightened me quite a bit (those scary giant boar-like creatures and that evil sorceress). I really enjoyed it though. Having rewatched it not that long ago I still find it to be a very entertaining little film with a fantastic soundtrack. Seeing a young Val Kilmer in drag is always fun as well:D Warwick Davis played a great lead and I enjoyed every scene where he attempted (and mostly failed) to use magic. I also loved the trolls under the bridge and that mult-headed monster it transformed into (how I miss stop motion:(). Great film.

Ah! We all seem to be part of the same generation-- I grew up watching Willow as well. Along with Legend, The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, and Dark Crystal, this was one of those great little 80s flicks I wore out on VHS. Val Kilmer was a hero to me as a kid because of this film, but-- damn-- the evil queen in here scared the poop out of me!

Best line in the whole movie;
"Ooh, I'm really scared. No! Don't! There's a...a peck here with an acorn pointed at me!"

I loved this movie as a kid. I haven't watched it in forever, but could still probably recite most of the lines from memory. Looking on it now, it does seem like a bit of a LOTR ripoff (books, not movies) . . . but I don't care, I still remember having a lot of fun watching the movie.
I still say "Gentlemen . . . meet Lug." when watching football games and somebody gets plowed (tackled hard).

I think Willow is a solid little fantasy film of the 80's. I think we all had a similar experience of knowing those films when we were kids. I'm thankful we all lived in a time where Willow was something kids could see and enjoy. It still holds up well today. It's not a perfect movie, but it is very enjoyable and easily the best movie he'll make. It's funny saying that because it's silly at times, but the sense of adventure in this movie is still great. I"ll take it over Howard's dramas any day of the week. I'd rather watch this before any of the Lord of the Rings too.
We should all consider ourselves lucky to be have been exposed to these kinds of films in our youth. The 80's was a great period for fantasy films. Terry Gilliam's two epic works still hold up for me. Same with Willow. I also enjoy Legend. If there is one thing they had in common it was that they opened up your imagination. I think it's hilarious that critics said it was "too dark" for kids. You know what I say to those critics? Kiss my ass. I didn't come away "traumatized" by Willow. If anything, it helped me be a more open person in a subconscious way. How many kids movies have a dwarf as the hero? Exactly.
I think part of what made this movie so special was that Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis were a great duo. They played off of each other so well.

I'd never heard that critics thought it was too dark for kids. I agree with you, the movie's great for kids. I think the scariest part is the two headed monster, and I thought that was pretty freakin' cool.
Most of Lucas' movies (he produced and wrote, I believe) have odd characters and creatures in prominent roles . . . this one is no different. And I like seeing a non-traditional hero in a movie, a hero like Willow. Madmartigan also offered great action scenes and comic relief, and the basis for the love story angle. Too bad this movie didn't have at least one sequel.

One of my all time favorites. I read the novel first, then saw the movie. I even got the freakin 3 issue comic book adaptation that Marvel comics released at the time. Know it by heart!
The Eborsisk scene is one of my favorite dragon scenes in any movie. Plus..my favorite scene is that battle between Fin Raziel and Queen Bavmorda! Awesome with battle!

I actually got Willow for my kids not too long ago just because I remember how awesome it was as a kid. Have not had a chance to sit down and watch it yet but we are planning a family movie night soon so that and Harry and the Hendersons will make a good movie night for the kids and a good way to relive 2 of my favorite childhood classics. Still looking for Batteries Not Included though!

Yea I am a child of the 80s cinema greats so I have a whole wishlist of moviesI need to get. Another I recently got was Goonies and I let my kids watch that one. Funny how a PG movie from 1985 would easily be PG13 today with all the cussing it had. I was actually kind of shocked but still let the kids finish it because, well, why not? I watched it when I was their age and I did not turn out damaged from hearing cuss words in Goonies........well not too damaged anyway!

Also, PG-13 was just getting started back in those days. I believe it was Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom which got the whole PG-13 ball roling. Funny how both of em are related to Steven Spielberg.
But hey, back to Willow. Can you believe this movie got shit when it was first released because it was considered to similar to Star Wars? With the prophecy of a child who is going to destroy the evil ruler. Madmartigans like a Han Solo. The villain with the skull mask is Darth Vader....Bavmorda is Emperor Palpatine. R2 and C3PO are those two little brownies....Princess Leia is Sorsha....Elora Dannan and Willow represent Luke Skywalker and Anakin...And so on and so forth.
Honestly, I dont give a shit, I still love the fuck out of Willow.

this movie was classic action and adventure in my opinion, the characters were flushed out and the storyline wasnt all over the place, just centered on ONE apocalyptic event.
8/10
PS: was sad/mad they couldnt make the rest of the story into movie form, but the books were great regardless
(shadow series if you are wondering what Im talking about)

I didnt even know these three books existed! Thanks T3h Qstr for pointing them out! Apparently, George Lucas gave famed comic book writer Christ Claremont a treatment of the whole Willow story so that he could write these three books that take place in the Willow universe! Im getting my hands no these ASAP!
