View Full Version : I am sick of vampires

I am so sick and tired of vampire movies, tv shows and books. I hate that Twilight shit. I hate that True Blood show. I hate that every race, sub culture, movie studio, horror writer, action writer, drama writer and a comedy write has written, made or produced a vampire movie or show.
I hate:
Vampire in Brooklyn
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Blacula
Van Helsing
Blade: all of them
Dracula: Dead and Loving It
Underworld: all of them
John Carpenter's Vampires
Vampyros Lesbos
Vampire’s Kiss
Love at First Bite
Blood and Donuts
Blood: The Last Vampire
Vampire Effect (2003) AKA The Twins Effect
Son of Dracula, Brides of Dracula, Dracula’s Daughter and every other family member of Dracula or Vampire movie made from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's
Blood for Dracula
Sleepwalkers
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter
From Dusk Till Dawn
The Lost Boys
Interview with the Vampire and all her books too
Shadow of the Vampire
Fright Night
My Grandpa Is a Vampire
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
30 Days of Night
Dracula 2000
Transylvania 6-5000
Queen of the Dammed
Stan Helsing (coming soon)
Great list of most of the movies made listed by decade.

I even hate Count Chocula cereal! I eat cocoa puffs dammit!
Enough with the fucking vampire shit! It would not be so bad if there weren't so many of them now. For years, we would get one or two, but now vampires are everywhere. I blame women for this most recent explosion. All these books making vampires out to be romantic figures. Now we have all these movies about romantic vampires. Vampires are not romantic. Stop it! I think Obama should come up with a new law limiting the number of vampire movies, shows and books that can be made each year.
Do your part and stop going to see vampire movies, tell your bitches to stop buying the books and stop watching True Blood on HBO. Stop the raping of a once great concept.

So am I, I don't give the time of day to vampire movies that are crappy and not recomended. But worse still I don't really care for well made vampire movies now, because they have been flogged to death.
I'm not looking forward to Thirst or The Strain because I couldn't give a toss about vampires anymore. And what's worse is that people probably have this idea that "oooh I'm gonna do my own version of dracula/vampires and it's gonna be hyper-realistic and dark and gritty and it'll kickstart the new vampire craze."
NO, it won't. Nobody cares about vampires movies unless it's rated pg-13 and is written for horny tweens. Even great people like Park Chan-wook and DelToro don't have me excited for vampires. Give it a fucking break.

I love vampires but I agree with you on one thing...it's an overdone genre as of late: movies, novels, TV series...UGH! And hardly any of them are done right! The TWILIGHT series (both novel and film) is vastly overrated, I love TRUE BLOOD (and the novels they're based on), I'm giving LET THE RIGHT ONE IN another shot tonight...but there are going to be so many copycats of this revived genre that by the time the Burton/Depp DARK SHADOWS remake comes out, it's going to be a bust!

Are you sick of Zombies
-Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
-World War Z
-Dead Snow
-28 Days Later
-28 Weeks Later
-Black Sheep
-Monster Island
- The Walking Dead
Are you sick of comedies where there are 3 or 4 men bonding together and making jokes about their junk
-Hangover
-Knocked Up
-Pineapple Express
-Old School
-The Wedding Crashers
These things go in cycles- there are lots of great vampire films
-Let the right one in
-The Fearless Vampire Killers
-Martin
-True Blood
-The Night Stalker with Darrin McGavin
-Cronos
-Near Dark
You probably don't like the hype and romance of Twilight. Well, it is a pretty poorly written book- but it has seemed to capture the imagination of young girls.

God I'm so sick of vampires too. If they were actual vampires, and not these pussy women fantasy-characters then I might be able to stand it a little more, but this last year has been terrible. And my step-mom is obsessed with them, she types up the word Vampire in the tv guide at least once a week and records every show/movie dealing with them. She has read the Twilight books obsessively, watches True Blood (She says she doesn't like it, but it's got vampires so she watches it anyways.), and that Sci-Fi show Moonlight. (Wonder what it's trying to copy? Well, not Twilight, despite the title. :p)
Yet she hates 30 Days of Night.

Vampires rule. Forget about twilight. I'm not gonna let some bullshit book series ruin my love for a legendary creature that's been around for centuries. I have loved vampires since I was little. They have always been popular. Hell, the most filmed fictional character in cinema history Dracula. Vampires were big long, long, loooonnnnggg before twilight.
Vampires aren't just some fad. Ancient cultures all around the world have there own view and interpenetration on vampire lore. Twilight shouldn't make anybody brush off the rich and detailed world of the vampire. Believe me, there is a goldmine of great vampire fiction to be found. You just gotta brush off the shiny, glittery coating that's covering the good stuff at the moment.
Let the teeny boppers have their Twilight. We got the good stuff.

I'm sick of crappy vampire films like Twilight and Van Helsing, but I'll never tire of truly great vampire entertainment like Let the Right One In or what Thirst will probably be. I even love on the slighty-campy, but totally fun, True Blood and blood-thirsty, balls-out 30 Days of Night. Oh, and lets not forget classics like Near Dark, Nosferatu, Nosferatu the Vampyr, and Fright Night!

Salem's Lot is one of my favorite novels.
Loved Let The Right One In. Can't wait for Thirst. After that I don't really think there is anymore vampire stuff I have left to look forward to because I'm not paying any attention to either Twilight or True Blood so I could care less about that.
Maybe after the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake we'll have a resurgence of sea monsters and that will replace the vampire and zombie trends. Wishful thinking none the less but it would be cool.

Hey, catch this virtual high five, 'cause that's what I'm sending you!
Sea monsters/creatures 'effin rule! A Creature update is long overdue. I think we could also use a really awesome, well-made (not Sci-Fi Channel or STD crap), horror take on the Loch Ness monster. How come that hasn't been done yet? Fuck Waterhouse: Legend of the Deep.

Yeah, I'm tired on vampire movies. The problem is, as far as classic Hollywood monsters are concerned, they are the easiest to put on screen, therefore, we see a lot of them.
I'm tired of zombies as well. But I think the current zombie thing is a bit of a fluke that will go away fairly soon. Vampires, however, will not.

Also, I dug the hell out of Cronos.

I'm tired of PG-13 rated vampires.
The other day I saw Underworld: Evolution for the first time since it was out in theaters and I had forgotten how gory and brutal and violent it is. I damn near fucking LOVED it! I also love John Carpenter's Vampires and From Dusk Till Dawn. The Blade movies are enjoyable too. And one of the most entertaining flicks of all time will forever be The Lost Boys!
Movies like Van Helsing and the Twilight series are so meh. But give me a good, hardcore vampire flick and I'll eat it up!

Now that's a vampire movie for people who don't like vampire movies. For once, it's a vampire movie that's actually original and has a unique concept. An ancient beetle/insect, trapped within a golden machine, that is used to make people into immortals. Awesome concept.
adam, does the "skin peeling" stuff in the Pandorum trailer remind you of Cronos? I'm wouldn't be surprised if the filmmakers "borrowed" that from Guillermo's first feature-length masterwork.

I'm shocked that you hate Dracula, Fright Night and Shadow of the Vampire. Dracula (and just about any Universal Monster film) is the reason you even have the horror genre, Fright Night is one of the most fun horror films from the 80's and Shadow of the Vampire is a testament to the kind of dignity and class that can be brought to a vampire film before there was Let the Right One In.

It is, and what's strange is that it has very little blood in it, at all (which is opposite of almost all modern vampire movies). Instead it contains a great story, great acting, great production-- it's a top-shelf movie all the way. It makes for a great companion piece to the original Nosferatu.

im pretty sure at this point Vampire and Zombie should be their own sub-genre. Everytime a new "fresh" zombie movie comes out people rave about it, but in the end, they are all pretty much the same formula. Shaun of the Dead is a certified classic though.

I feel like I have either seen or read vampire tales that have made reference but can't remember for certain, or which ones.
In the "Vampirology" episode of a UK series, Urban Gothic, a very urbane and jaded vampire is followed around by a documentary crew. He's asked about vampires and the AIDS virus. He says vampires have powerful immune systems and don't succumb to human viruses.

To become tired of vampire films is like to become tired of a specific genre of films such as action or romance. Not all vampire films are terrible like Twilight the first two Blade films were good, the first Underworld film wasn't bad and 30 Days of Night was a great adaptation. Vampire films like current horror films have just received a bad hand, all that is needed are committed directors/writers and a cast that can introduce vampires in a new way. I look forward to next years Daybreakers film because its filled with great underrated actors and has a very noir feel to it.

I am sick of poorly-done, watered down vampire/werewolf/zombie films that offer nothing memorable.
There is nothing wrong with a bit of lame-o for a good laugh, however, while the movie itself wasn't particularly GREAT, '30 Days of Night' boosted some great vampires. Brutal, disdainful, vicious and ruthless. And they had their own language too. Awesome.
And damned I would be if I didn't think Danny Huston looked fucking awesome as the lead vampire.

You got it.
I am all for variety, however it's all in the interpretation of the vampire. I don't care if they are sexy, pathetic, symbolic or what have you- it's all in the execution, the justification of it. Without a reasonable consideration for those things, well, just look at Edward Cullen- poster child for Vampire Fail.
I know how ranty I sound, but I find 'Twilight' has kinda tainted people's perceptions of vampires and I find that unfortunate. :p

I know! Why can't we get a good werewolf movie? Now that special effects might make a truly intimidating werewolf, we instead get a bunch of hacks who think "you know what would be scary? A million werewolves on screen at once!" Once you get someone cutting through werewolves like they're zombies, they lose their effectiveness.
Let's forget vampires and give us a good old fashion werewolf in the woods movie, hunting people down, imposing, menacing, and fantastic looking.
I can only hope the Wolfman kills the vampire genre and moves us in the direction of great werewolf movies for awhile.
