I just watched this last night and I must say that Deniro is outstanding in the King of Comedy. He is obsessive like Travis Bickle sort of. Totally underrated role. With a lot of actors this wouldn't be an easy sell. It's an uneasy black comedy all the way. It surely made me feel like I would never want to be famous I can tell you that. It falls a tad shy of Martin's best movies, but it's a notch above something like After Hours and The Color of Money.

Jerry Lewis is great. The only downfall for me is that the ugly chick was annoying.

Totally underrated movie though. 8/10

One of Marty's best in my opinion. Brilliant screenplay and an extraordinary performance by Robert De Niro. Jerry Lewis and Sandra Bernhardt are also really good and you've gotta love that ending stand-up monologue. Its like the 'good twin' to Taxi Driver.

Also an 8/10

Along with Bringing Out the Dead, this is Scorcese's most underrated film.

Yeah, it definitely made me feel uneasy the whole way. 6/10

It's above After Hours but no, it is not better than The Color Of Money.

Color of Money and Bringing out the Dead are a couple of Scorsese flicks I still have yet to see.

King of Comedy is great. The part that stands out for me the most was the scene where Rupert Pupkin is having dinner with Jerry Langford who is flourishing him with praise, then suddenly we cut to Rupert Pupkin alone in his room imagining this scenario in his head, talking out loud to himself as he mother tells him to shut the hell up from the next room.

After that fantasy sequence, there is the scene where Rupert takes his old high school crush into Langford's home. I was so unsure at first if this moment was real or just another fantasy, but as the scene got more and more awkward, it became very clear what it was and felt oh so effective.

The scenes with Sandra Bernhard keeping Jerry captive were also very amusing in their own awkward way.

Great movie overall.

This is my third favorite Scorsese film after Raging Bull and Goodfellas and I think it's a tad bit better than Taxi Driver which I also love. It's so damn underrated and I think De Niro actually gives just as good a performance here as he did in Taxi Driver. Definately, one of his best performances. He makes you feel creeped out by Rupert yet also feel bad for him as well. There are some really eerie scenes here such as De Niro's monologue to his wall which is a painted on studio audience complete with guests. Jerry Lewis is awesome here as well as the miserable celebrity who hides behind his persona as a funny guy. This movie just perfects the feeling of not being in comfort and feeling totally awkward. Even Sandra Bernhardt isn't as annoying as she usually is.

The stand-up comedy monologue is great as you expect Rupert to be terrible and completely bomb but he manages to be a talented comedian that delivers a funny yet depressing at the same time act.

BTW, I just saw After Hours and I really liked that a lot. It is completely different to Marty's other films and that might be the reason why I liked it so much.
