I have tried watching a couple of these 3D movies at home and it doesnt really do it like it does in the theatre. Someone told me that you have to change the color settings on your television to get it work properly. Could anyone tell me if that is true?

It's all in the technology.
RealD as shown in theaters, can NOT be reproduced on DVD/BD. It's a projection setup that allows the 3D to pop like it does in theaters. Until home electronics catch up (and it is, but at a HEFTY price right now), we'll be stuck with the lame red/blue(or green) anachrome for home viewing.
That's the reason I haven't picked up MBV3D at all. While it was a good movie, it's the RealD that made the flick, and without that, it's just not the same.
Read up on RealD here. (http://www.reald.com/)
