View Full Version : Let's give this another try: Movie of the Week.

It's been a long time since we had Movie of the Week thread (or series of threads), so I thought it'd be nice to give it another go.

Here's how I see it working: Up until next Sunday you guys nominate a few titles (lets say a max of 3 picks per schmoe, to keep it manageable) in this thread, preferably films not everyone will have seen, but not titles so obscure that it will be impossible to find them. They can be films you love, films you hate, but make them films you find interesting and would like to discuss with other schmoes.

Next Sunday I'll pop the nominated titles in a hat and pick one out. On Monday (29th) I'll post the first title and we can start discussions. I'll also announce the second title in that post, to give people a head start on seeing it, but discussions will run Monday to Sunday.

So... good idea, terrible idea, any thoughts on movies you'd like to chew over in a thread along these lines?

I'm glad there seems to be some enthusiasm for this idea, and the nominations you guys are posting are really interesting. Lots of flicks I've seen, love, and would be really up for talking about and whole bunch I've been meaning to see as well. Keep 'em coming.

My movie watching history is lacking when it comes to the obscure or old (for the most part), so I'm excited about this thread. Here's two from last year.. I know the Fall's been seen by many, but I haven't seen much discussion about it.

The Flight of the Red Balloon (Hou Hsiao-Hsien)
The Fall (Tarsem Singh)

Any more nominees before I announce the first two titles (which I'll do tomorrow morning, to give us the weekend to catch up with the chosen film before discussions open on Monday.)

First two selections are up (oddly they are from the first two posts, but I SWEAR I did a blind draw to select them). Anyway, you can feel free to keep the nominations coming anyway.

This just caught my eye.

B66 is a great movie, but last time I saw Perfect Blue, I remember totally hating it, so it will be interesting to see it again and discuss it.

anyway, I wanted to pull some obscure French animated films out of my ass that are really amazing, but only one has been released on a "proper" DVD, and it's best to see all three. So I'll do three movies I saw very recently that are fresh on my mind.

Lenny
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Gone Baby Gone

Exchanged one of my choices.

Are you going to keep this up? I like the idea of an Oprah-esque movie club.

I might also suggest that once one of your films is picked (apart) you could re-enter a new film in the draw.

Sure, edit your post and put the new title in bold, or something like that.

I got very busy with writing and other things, and since the threads weren't really taking off the idea died a rather unmourned death.
