Jeff, what the fuck are you doing? This is MY scene. Why do you have to pause after every third word? You better cool it, or I'll get Spielberg to write you out of the script immediately.

I bet that's something every actor working with Jeff must have thought while working with him. Don't get me wrong, Jeff Goldlbum isn' the most versatile or amazing actors of all time, but I'll be damned if he's not one of the most endearing. Love him or hate him, if you see Jeff Goldblum in a film, chances are, you're going to remember him and forget about everyone else at some point. I recall him almost stealing Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic, without even trying. Such as this great moment:

Zissou: We've never made great husbands, have we?

Allstair (Goldblum): Of course, I have a good excuse. I'm part gay.

What is it with Jeff Goldblum? He has this winning formula of how to steal any scene: Always have a wry smirk on your face. Check. Always throw multiple pauses in the dialogue. Check.

What other traits can you pick out? Are you a fan of the Blumer or a hater? What's your favorite movie that he's in? Mine would be a tie between the Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai and Jurassic Park. What's yours?

Join me, won't you, in my exploration of Jeff Goldblum.

In the words of Saul Silver "Man, fuck Jeff Goldblum!"

:D

The dude kicks all kids of ass. The Fly is one of my favorite films of all time and I'll watch pretty much anything with him in it. Hell even Cats and Dogs.

"Now, that is one big PILE of shit."

"You will remember to wash your hands before eating?"

"You think they'll have that on the tour?"

He totally steals the show in 'Annie Hall.'

"Hello? I've forgot my mantra."

Fucking murders everyone. Forget the rest of the movie. Fuck 'em.

I watched The Fly for the umpteenth time again yesterday and man, if it wasn't for his performance, it would've been like any other B-Movie. The man's just a natural and he knows it, too.

Hell, I even liked him in Powder.

Seth McFarlane has a great little cartoon with him in it. Not sure if it's him but he's captured perfectly.

Jeff Goldblum is so awesome, he did a cameo narration for one-time cult hit Mr. Show (God, do I miss those late Sunday nights). He even nails reading a postcard:

And yes, Servo, whoever did the Goldblum voice did a great job. It wasn't him but the captured the mannerisms.

I wish Goldblum would do more nowadays. I miss seeing him.

His role in Life Aquatic is classic.

Funny enough, some friends and I were sarcastically considering creating a Church of Goldblum based mostly on Jurassic Park and Independence Day

i love him in all of his flicks... but he really shines when he is on the Late Night shows!

He is one person i always DVR whenever he is on any of the late night shows!

Him and a few others (Terry Bradshaw is another person i never miss, Howard Stern... there are more, i like the late night shows, except Carson Daly and anything Fallon does except when he is interviewing guests)!

He's the man. And he single-handedly made The Big Chill tolerable.

Watch "Adam Resurrected". It actually just may be his all-time best performance, which is saying quite a lot coming from this guy, whom I absolutely agree just steals every show he's in and automatically makes whatever movie he's in better (Independence Day).

I need to check this movie out. The plot sounds very interesting. Willem DaFoe and Goldblum? Two scene stealers? In a film directed by Paul Schrader? Count me in. I enjoyed his previous movie to AR, the Walker, which was a nice character study/thriller with a solid performance by Woody Harrelson.

Ah! Aha! Now, I'm certainly, ah... GLAD... to, ah, to SEE, as it were... such a proNOUNCED, ah, RECOGNITION... for an actor, an actor who, ah, presents quite an entertaining PERSONALITY... right? A certain, ah, how shall I put it... dramaturgic d'etente? Between, ah... you know, his PERSON, and, ah... PERSONALITY... in the, ah, the role... Riiight? An interesting, ah, combinATION... and so forth... yeah... He offers a certain... ah, INTRIGUE! Is what I meant to... say. That is to say, ah, ah, a TALENT... a talent for the, ah, the QUIRKY... And here I've gone and probably, ah, ALIENATED, ah, most of the people reading this... And here I am, still, ah, still TYPING to myself... Now THAT, ah... THAT'S quirky...

Bingo.

Resurrected was one of my favorite films last year, and it bums the hell out of me that it never got proper distribution in the US because it would have found a good audience and while it might not have gotten Goldblum the Oscar (not during the Rourke/Penn race, anyway), it would have been great to see Goldblum get the recognition he deserves.

He's still a great character actor and I hope he'll continue to get great roles in the future.

Ive always enjoyed Jeff Goldblums performances on whatever he is in. Of course, for me his greatest film is The Fly. I mean, when he gives that speech on "insect politics"...it gives a chill up my spine.

Anybody ever seen that movie he did with Cindy Lauper called Vibes? It was released in 1985, but I never got around to seeing it. It wasnt a big hit.

Also, I was watching The Sentinel (the movie about the gates of hell being in a New York City apartment) a few years back and was surprised to see him acting alongside Christopher Walken in one of his first roles ever!
