Hey Man

He ain't happy with the marketing of the movie and felt compelled to say so.

Is this real? Because this in some areas is a poorly written letter.

Like If someone would of instead of the proper if someone would have.

if its real, then i think it shows that Bay knows how to sell his film. I may not like Transformers (or any Bay film) all that much but the man knows how to make an event out of them. I thought it was interesting how he mentioned that The Island was made with just the assumption it will do well.

A good film will get word of mouth, but even word of mouth can't match a hype train (good word of mouth for Batman Begins didn't save it from making the numbers a hyped sequel like Pirates 3 made). Even so, he seems respectful enough, i'm glad he doesn't think all he has to do now is lay back and count the cash.

If it is real, it is indeed a bit poorly written, but he knows what he's talking about. Revenge of the Fallen will do fine, and there are plenty of TV spots and trailers, but I don't feel the anticipation like I thought I would. Because of this, it may not make as much as it has the potential to make.

It's real - nobody said directors are the most educated people in the world.

Yeah, I don't know what he's bitching about. The movie will break $300 million with horrific WOM *and* bad marketing. As it is, I'm guessing $375+ million. I'd have guessed $400 million months ago, but I don't sense it as much as I did Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 or The Dark Knight.

So I guess someone working at Paramount thought it was funny to send this to TMZ, either that or maybe this is part of the new marketing plan.

I wonder if TMZ was also the one responsible for leaking his Dark Knight script.

I mean, he does have a point. The marketing for the movie has been much less than a normal summer blockbuster.

Yea I agree. I have not seen near as many commercials or tie ins as I was expecting. I am taking my son to see the flick but he had no idea it was coming out until I showed him the trailer on apple's site about 2 weeks ago. He does nto watch a ton of tv like I did growing up but he has watched enough during his summer break that he should have seen a commercial for this kind of movie. He has seen commercials for some bumblebee toy though but had no idea it was for a new movie.

Didnt this douche speak out againist Scarlett Jo and Ewan Mc about their lack of promotion for The Island??

He basically blamed those two for it completely bombing.

Hey Bay, The Island bombed cause it was PURE SHIT...choda boy.

You should know that a director like Bay will never take the blame for a film failing. If you have seen interviews with him he has that "my shit dont stink" attitude about him and yea I do enjoy alot of what he has done, he is still a douche. BUT he does have a point in his email. Then again if the films sucks that bad the studios have every right not to waste their ad dollars on a bomb or maybe they assume they do not need to waste money on a movie that will do well without millions in advertising? Many parts of the story missing here on this one.

I think that Bay got wind that this movie isn't nearly as anticipated as he was hoping for and the projections are meeting his expectations so this "just so happened" to get out to distance himself from the movie. That way when it does less than expected, he can be like "See, I told you so!"

Apparently Bay passed a Buisness Management course.

Meh. I don't think that's real. I've seen samples of Bay's writing before and that doesn't sound like him. Especially the first part which uses the word "zeitgeist."

Plus, when he does blow a gasket, he usually posts it directly on his site, not in a private email.

I think some anti-Bay loser is taking TMZ for a ride.

Not to mention I think the marketing has been great for the movie. Supposedly it's tracking to make over $175 million for its opening weekend-and-a-half. As well as department store near-saturation.

Um, no. it bombed because it came out in July, had no promotion, and bad reviews. not because it sucked.

Um, no. it bombed because it came out in July, had no promotion, and bad reviews. not because it sucked.

I'd say all those reasons plus the fact that it was terrible.

It sounds to me that it might be a ploy to try and build publicity for the film.

I think it is real and I will tell you why - first of all, it was written on May 4 - so if it wasn't real, I am sure someone will come out of the woodwork and say so now that it has been posted.

Despite the way people usually write or talk, when one is pissed off - they tend to go scatterbrain and just spew their anger. That's why people always say never send an email when you are angry - you may regret it tomorrow. I think Bay did just that.

I never understand how these vulture gossip sites get their hands on the personal, private materials. It's just so... LOW to sensationalize this stuff, I fucking HATE it.

Because after reading it... I really don't see what the big deal is. He isn't angry and shouting and writing exclamation marks or anything - no, he is presenting coherent arguments (if not entirely 100% grammatically correct ones) and I think that think Bay had some seriously legitimate concerns about the marketing of the film; from the wording and the use of quotation marks in the beginning I can assume that the marketing department/producers promised him something in regards to the marketing that they failed to deliver.

There was plenty of promotion. I remember seeing the promo everywhere on every channel and bus stop. People don't see movies when people act like God. The Island was an awesome movie.

I don't buy this letter from MB. Counter intelligence.

There has been SHIT loads of promotions. Those phone ads, the car ads, the MANY TV spots, the billboards all over, I Just think its TOO soon for a sequel. I mean, it hasnt been exactly 2 years since the first one. He's a joke of a director its just another one of his temper tantrums that his movie isn't the talk of the town.

Heres a message to Michael Bay: you want your movie to be an event movie? Then dont make the same movie again!

boo Hoo, my gazillion dollar film isnt getting enough buzz...boo hoo. Shut your yap Mr. Bay, your movie will make trillions of dollars with promotional back up or not! Chill the fuck dude. Go blow up some stuff, release the stress.

I did found odd that Transformers 2 wasn't as promoted as the first one. Some of my friends who loved the first one weren't aware that there was a sequel coming this year.

I guess they didnt watch all those previews that they played during the superbowl? Or all the internet buzz...and all the commercials on internet, tv...what the hell is bay talking about? Ive seen info on this movie all over the place?! In fact many of the people that I dont consider movie buffs at my job know about it!

Im guessing the studio just figures its going to be a big hit anyways because the first one was so huge, so they figure this kind of movie doesnt need so much promoting, cause it has its built in audience who will promote it enough through word of mouth.

Every movie Ive seen this summer (at least 7 in the last 2 months now) has had a rather hefty-in-length Revenge Of The Fallen trailer. Not to mention its on all the candy and drinks everyone is buying. :p

Could be real. It was written back in May 4, I could see how back then it wasn't as prominently advertised as it is now, but did Bay really expect it to get 2+ months of extensive TV, internet & print advertising?

That said, reading the whole thing, lousy grammar aside, it's not really a terrible email.

On a side note, what complete LOSER is obsessed with putting "FIRST!!" into a thread on TMZ, or anywhere else on the internet.

That is just... wow, the most loserly, depressing, stupid, dumb, stupid thing I could ever think of. The internet is filled with such fucking morons.

Nazgul

I'd say all those reasons plus the fact that it was terrible.

The only thing that was good about the movie was the fact that it had sexy Scarlett Johanssen in it.

Who knows - Bay usually doesn't even string words that "well" as in this letter. But "then" written instead of "than" is a common Bay SP mistake so I'd guess it's real

Props to Bay though for writing that.
