Despite my miswording, it was still a good analogy, and not just "wrong". Regardless of specific details in noun usage, the point was it's kind of off putting to tell someone they can't criticize something because they weren't involved in the process of creating it. You validate the analogy by pointing out that he is clearly not qualified to be governor of anything, because most people who aren't directing films aren't qualified to direct films.
