http://www.tmz.com/2009/06/25/michael-jackson-rushed-to-the-hospital/

We've just learned Michael Jackson was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Los Angeles ... and we're told it was cardiac arrest and that paramedics administered CPR in the ambulance.

He was picked up at his home around 20 minutes ago -- we're told his mother is on the way to visit him.

UPDATE: The 911 call came in at 12:21PM at his Holmby Hills home in L.A.

UPDATE: A Jackson family member tells TMZ Michael is in "really bad shape" and the brothers are headed to UCLA.

UPDATE: We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, who says "he is not doing well."

I'm watching the news right now and they are not necessarily saying he's dying. I think that is pure speculation at this point. Although they did report that the it is rumored that Jackson's father said he's not doing well. But again, it appears to be rumor at this point.

It seems right now the only facts are that he was taken to the hospital and that it's probably for cardiac arrest. Of course, cardiac arrest is not a good thing. That's basically a heart attack, right?

Michael Jackson suffered a heart attack this afternoon at his home and paramedics were not able to revive him, TMZ reported. Jackson was administered CPR in the ambulance, the gossip site said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says Michael was not breathing when paramedics arrived.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Joe Jackson, the family patriarch, had told the site his son "is not doing well" when news of his heart attacked first broke.

To me Michael Jackson is the worst case scenario of how a person can break under the enormous pressure the media puts on people. There should be laws to protect famous people. I blame them for helping to turn him into the freak he became.

Get ready for non-stop playing of Michael Jackson songs everywhere you go (which isn't a bad thing, Thriller, Bad, etc. beats the ever living shit out of most pop music today)

It's funny but nothing improves a person's reputation like dying. I agree with what some previous posters have said, the child molestation charges will be downplayed in light of all the accolades, for better or worse.

In any event, the life of Michael Jackson was pure tragedy. The guy was at a time, one of the most popular celebrities in the world and his demons dragged him down and in the end, left him nearly bankrupt, physically mangled, without a viable career in music, isolated, and the object of suspicion, scorn, and ridicule, only to die on the eve of his "comeback tour" - there will be a biopic soon, of that I have no doubt.

There's a lot been said about Michael Jackson, and I've got to say, whether or not he abused the boys he was accused of abusing, his relationship to children was something I found disturbing. In human terms then, perhaps no massive loss.

However, there are few true geniuses in any field, and the world of music appears to have lost one today. This is a man who never seemed to have found peace in his life, lets hope he finds it now.

I started listening to Michael Jackson at a young age. My mom and dad used to video tape me and my little sister, while still tots and in diapers, dance and boogie down to "Thriller" and "Beat It" on top of our living room coffee table. I have so many fond memories in my life that involve his music in one way or another. I remember practicing the moonwalk like crazy before my freshman Homecoming dance while watching Michael Jackson videos. On cross-country trips during my Senior Year in High School, me and three of my friends used to get ready before a run while listening to "Smooth Criminal."

Well I saw earlier today that Farrah Fawcett died, I wasn't too suprised about that or Ed McMahon's death though it is very unfortunate.

But I never would've seen this coming. Regardless of what may have happened in his personal life, its undeniable that he was a pop Icon and one of the most gifted musicians and performers ever.

I think people need to quit talking about the problems and shit that happened with him and just let him rest in peace. He may have been guilty, but he's dead now it doesn't matter, I mean come on show the dead some respect.

I seen a post earlier that said "Who's next? Micheal Bay, if only. I mean really, I'm at a loss for words. That's just wrong, I can understand not liking a man's films, but really are we at the point that we're hoping someone dies.

But like Lizzie Borden and others found "not guilty", in the court of public opinion, he's guilty as sin.

Here comes the carrion. Michael's former publisher Michael Levine:

"As someone who served as Michael Jackson's publicist during the 1st child molestation incident, I must confess I am not surprised by today's tragic news.

Michael has been on an impossibly difficult and often self-destructive journey for years. His talent was unquestionable but so too was his discomfort with the norms of the world.

A human simply can not withstand this level of prolonged stress.''

I agree that his kids have some of his features, but I think that might be part and parcel of the whole "wow he looks just like his mama/papa*" (delete as applicable)

It's psychological.

MJ clearly didn't bleach his skin but his kids couldn't possibly be born with totally Caucasian features.

I don't believe he's a child-chasing monster but I also have a hard time believing that he can care for his own biological/facially similar offspring.

Yeah, I can't wait for the stories to start flying around. That was going to happen once he died anyway.

His life is utterly Faustian. We'll never see anything like it again.

"You will become an idol at age 8, and eventually elevate to God-like status by age 25. With your brilliant songwriting and vocal skills, you will break down racial barriers and genre conventions. But, your dad will be an abusive asshole, you will be surrounded by handlers who will not teach you right from wrong or how to grow up, you'll not be truly nurtured by anyone. Mentally, you'll be 8 until death, and turned into a joke by your 40s. And just before you go out to try and redeem yourself, you'll die."

Maybe, if you're right and they're not his kids, people will see him as asexual/impotent and be more inclined to believe he was simply a childlike man, a regressed child. But nothing can take away from his legend. He's up there with Elvis in the pop world.

Also, oddly enough, I am not really bothered by this. All I can think of now is hopefully those kids may be able to have something of a normal life without him in the picture. Do things that kids should do instead of being hidden under blankets and living in that fantasy world he created.

I actually feel that the 'blanket' episode (hanging over the balcony) was blown out of all proportion. People toss their kids up in the air and shove them on their shoulders and dangle them out of windows willy-nilly.

It's not my bag. I get frightened just giving my boy a swing-around and taking him for a swim.

WHOAH!

I found out about this about 2 hours ago, and I was truly taken aback. I didn't know he was 50 already.

Having been born in 1985, I too have no memory of a world without Michael Jackson. My first exposure was when my sister's dance school did a rendition of "Thriller".

I was more a fan of his work with the Jackson Five, but I've also enjoyed his more famous work.

As for all his problems, I do believe he made some very big mistakes with his life, but I don't blame him personally. His rotten father shares a great percentage of the blame for how he turned out. The sad fact was that he never learned how to be an adult, although he was a very astute businessman.

As for the charges involving children....I'm split. I don't believe he sexually molested them, but his strange behavior does give that impression. Still, as NuclearMisfit said earlier, what parent allows their children to have a sleepover with a 40 year-old man? Especially a noted eccentric.

The King of Pop is dead. Long live the king.

I'm incredibly sadden by this news because I have been a huge Michael Jackson fan since I was a kid. Infact the first album I ever brought was Dangerous when I was 8 years old (which I still own by the way). Despite all the controversies and weird behaviour that have been the focus of his life by everyone over the years, I've remembered the man as an artist, an entertainer, his charitable work and, of course, his music. Which has brought both joy and happiness to everyone of all ages all over the world, including myself. Now with his recent passing, I'll always remember him as those things more than ever as there will never be another one like him. I hope that he finds the peace that he has been looking for in the next life than he did in this one.

FYI: His three kids are not his at all (biologically). The mother, Debbie Rowe (remember her?) had them via artificial insemination from sperm that was not his. However, she had previously waived her rights to be the legal parent of them - twice - so they're pretty much up in the air now.

Apparently MJ's mom is really sick too and will probably die soon, so it's unlikely she would get custody.

I can't say I'm too surprised by this. I mean, with Farrah Fawcet, we pretty much knew she was going to die soon, and although Michael wasn't sick (that we knew off), the guy hasn't looked healthy in a long time.

I don't understand how people think MJ molesting children is somehow the fault of parents leaving their kids with him- a lot of parents have made that mistake with teachers, uncles, etc. He molested kids- and make no mistake, he paid them off- even his biggest supporters accuse his accusers of being bought off... If innocent, then why pay them off? Cause he wasn't!

His father had nothing to do with his molesting ways... MJ was an adult, he made the decision as a 40-some year old man. His daddy will deal with his own sins for sure, but don't dump Mikee's behavior on him just cause The King of Pop could sing real nice.

Also, to think of him as "regressive" or caught in some sort of "arrested development" is akin to closing your eyes in a well lit room. This guy either had the mind of a child that couldn't cope in the real world or he was a genius writer/producer/performer who could do all the amazing and god-like things described in earlier posts...

Apparently John Wayne Gacy learned how to paint while he was on death row for murdering young men. John Wayne Gacy was caught red-handed.

Michael Jackson was never found guilty. I know that being found not guilty doesn't mean he's innocent. I don't know where I stand on his innocence. I think there is a very good possibility he molested children and also a very good possibility that he did not. I'm not going to side with Michael Jackson just because I admire his work and appreciate what he brought to the music industy for 40 years, but I'm not going to say he's guilty either because I just don't know.

But make no mistake, he was a music legend, a pioneer in the industry. He was already a legend years before any of these molestation rumors came out. Even if evidence comes out that proves he did all of these terrible things, I don't see how anyone can argue that he wasn't a music legend.

Given you started off with teachers and uncles, I would assume that the "etc." doesn't include eccentric celebrities who the parents don't know very well, but do know about a history of child abuse-related issues.

He molested kids- and make no mistake, he paid them off- even his biggest supporters accuse his accusers of being bought off... If innocent, then why pay them off? Cause he wasn't!

If he was guilty, why would the parents allow themselves to be bought off when they could go on to not only collect civil damages, but more importantly, see that someone who destroyed their child's innocence was brought to justice?

Also, to think of him as "regressive" or caught in some sort of "arrested development" is akin to closing your eyes in a well lit room. ^This^

I have so many problems with the case I don't even know where to begin.

Evan Chandler was the first and only person accusing MJ for quite some time. He gave his son sodium amytal in order to extract 'the truth' from him? He drugged his own child in the presence of a co-worker. I mean WTF?

I also think it's telling that Jordan Chandler hasn't spoken to his Mother in over 14 years and recently took his Father to court alleging that he was severely physically abused throughout his child.

"There are other people involved that are waiting for my phone call that are in certain positions. I've paid them to do it. Everything's going according to a certain plan that isn't just mine. Once I make that phone call, this guy is going to destroy everybody in sight in any devious, nasty, cruel way that he can do it. And I've given him full authority to do that."

..."And if I go through with this, I win big-time. There's no way I lose. I've checked that inside out. I will get everything I want, and they will be destroyed forever. June will lose [custody of the son]...and Michael's career will be over."

Quotes from an Evan Chandler tape recording apparently.

I, like many I'm sure, found him to be an enigma, curious as to what events in one's life would lead someone to such eccentricity. I always hoped that it'd be revealed one day that everything he did in his life publicity stunt wise was just that: a publicity stunt. Like M.J. was some sort of an Andy Kaufman level genius in fooling the world. I guess now, we're never know.

Here, this has never been more true: they never really appreciate you 'til you're gone......

If I found out that he did indeed harm those children, I would think it was disgusting and I would not think he had the right to do it because he was famous. But it still would not negate that he was a musical legend. Nothing can take away all of the awards he won and all the records he broke.

Album sales are irrelevant to me, its the songs that matter. Have the songs mean something, which add depth and texture. I don't find that true in the wonderful world of Michael Jackson. I can see his influence on the music industry both positive and negative (he paved the way for such useless, manufactured piles of shit like that idiot Britney Spears and that ass clown Justin Timberlake.) Lisa Marie Presley on MJ's death (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=42291868&blogId=497035326):

He Knew.

Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general.

I can't recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death.

At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did."

I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that.

14 years later I am sitting here watching on the news an ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the Cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears.

A predicted ending by him, by loved ones and by me, but what I didn't predict was how much it was going to hurt when it finally happened.

The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the LA County Coroners office for his Autopsy.

All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted.

I am going to say now what I have never said before because I want the truth out there for once.

Our relationship was not "a sham" as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a "Normal life" found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.

I wanted to "save him" I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened.

His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn't know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then.

At that time, In trying to save him, I almost lost myself.

He was an incredibly dynamic force and power that was not to be underestimated.

When he used it for something good, It was the best and when he used it for something bad, It was really, REALLY bad.

Mediocrity was not a concept that would even for a second enter Michael Jackson's being or actions.

I became very ill and emotionally/ spiritually exhausted in my quest to save him from certain self-destructive behavior and from the awful vampires and leeches he would always manage to magnetize around him.

I was in over my head while trying.

I had my children to care for, I had to make a decision.

The hardest decision I have ever had to make, which was to walk away and let his fate have him, even though I desperately loved him and tried to stop or reverse it somehow.

After the Divorce, I spent a few years obsessing about him and what I could have done different, in regret.

Then I spent some angry years at the whole situation.

At some point, I truly became Indifferent, until now.

As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted.

Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him.

He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together.

I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now.

He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be.

I also hope that anyone else who feels they have failed to help him can be set free because he hopefully finally is.

The World is in shock but somehow he knew exactly how his fate would be played out some day more than anyone else knew, and he was right.

I really needed to say this right now, thanks for listening.

It's a shame Michael Jackson didn't get to overcome his problems in life. 50 isn't old enough to be a lost cause. Kiddy fiddling controversy aside, he otherwise deserved more time to make peace with himself. The only problem with this would be if his solution wasn't very tasteful (like living with children in such a comfortable- if maybe innocent- way that he routinely slept in the same bed with them).

Shes just trying to have her moment in the spotlight, just like all "celebrities" eveywhere right now. Like any of them gave a shit about him two days ago..

I'm waiting for those celebs who never even met the guy to use his death as an excuse to loudly ponder their personal interpretation of life. This happened when ledger passed away, and it will probably happen again with MJ. You'll know it when the mourner in question starts out by saying While I never met the man in any way at all ever, I always respected his work....
It makes you double take, but it's not that big of a deal. People of all statuses use headlining deaths for the same reason. If MJ was still alive he would interest me about this much in the overall scheme of things, and even dead he factors into my life in no way shape or form. I've never even been touched by his music. Yet here I am to talk about my views on his life/death, and you'd be picking the wrong fight if you took this behavior of mine as disrespectful. There are worse things for a death to attract than attention or disingenuous mourning.

Some of you schmoes on this thread are truly disgusting.

In my humble opinion it comes down to this: MJ The Persona, and MJ The Musician.

There are some really good books out there on how his musical life was, how he composed, how he was especially in his 20's and 30's driven by creativity, how he really worked his ass off for most of his childhood and adult life, how the guy was a true genius and really set the bar for uncountable other musicians.. Not to mention that he was the greatest dancer in the world, the only one that probably came close was Fred Astaire..

He was not a normal guy. But that's what happenes when you grow up like he did. He had no sense of freedom, he had no sense of money, and his values were probably a bit mixed up. I'm not even gonna get into the child abuse allegations.

However, it's a great and very sudden loss. I was effected quite deeply, sitting in my car, feeling my eyes filling up with tears, and my whole body going into this goosebump-state. I heard the DJ's on the radio singing along on 'Wanna Be Startin' Something', and shouting: 'This one is for you Michael! Rest in peace man!!'. And I sang out loud too. Just as I did when I was rollerskating to school with my walkman, back in the days when they were still the size of a carry-on-fridge: 'Mamasay mamasaah mamakoosaah!!'

There are many great legacy's that a man and woman can leave behind after their deaths. Film is one of them. But music is right up there too. And that is how I will remember him: for his music.

RIP Michael Joseph Jackson.

Steven S.
06-27-2009, 02:06 AM
I agree, and it'd be great if that was all we could remember him by, but it isn't. It's callous, but given where his life went, the best thing in retrospect would have been for him to go out James Dean or Heath Ledger-style: sudden, accidental and in his prime. That way we could have remembered him in a good way. And childhood abuse, etc. notwithstanding, plenty of people have worse upbringings than his and become well-adjusted contributing members of society, so I really don't think that's a shield for his behavior. I guess my reaction to the news of his death can be distilled in two sentences:

It was time.

Thriller man. What an album.

I've actually been extremely surprised at the reaction from the masses... I feel like people (in general) have completely put aside his scandal. Sure there's a great handful of people still calling him a child molester but there's also an overwhelming number of people who--through his death--are now remembering him for his prime and their love of his music.

The news reported that every used and new record store in the Twin Cities has sold out of his albums.

You know, a lot of those "overwhelming number" of people never subscribed to the allegations against him. You're making it sound like everyone is fronting and ignoring how many people went crazy supporting him during the allegations. It's getting more ridiculous than the people that aren't fans of Kurt Cobain trying to make it out like Nirvana was barely popular until he died.

Anyway, maybe this will help you sleep better:

Listening to the radio, you keep hearing the same songs that made him famous like 'Thriller', 'Beat It','Bad',...
Too bad they're not playing his songs that didn't made it so high in the charts. Personally I think those are his best songs. Songs like 'Who Is It', 'Keep it in the closet', 'Give in to me'.
There's even a song on his last album 'Invincible' that's really really fantastic. It's called 'Whatever happens' together with Carlos Santana. It's a shame they never released it. To all you MJ haters outthere, maybe you should first check out these songs before saying all his music sucked.

No child molestation was ever proven, and he was never convicted for anything of the sort. Even when he was alive, I felt sorry for how brutally he was torn apart & hated based all on unsubstantiated allegations. It's a shame. I, for one, am glad he's being remembered in a more positive light.

He was a musical genius, but I am sorry - I can't just pretend that he wasn't extremely inappropriate with children. Look if it was you or me with the same evidence against Michael - we would be in jail now. So like OJ, being a celebrity goes a long way. Look at this way, you don't pay someone 20 million dollars for something you didn't do. Especially something like that. If it was me, I would fight it to the death.
