Yeah more to the story
TMZ has confirmed TV pitchman Billy Mays was found dead today in his home in Tampa, Florida.
According to the Tampa PD, Mays was pronounced dead at 7:45 AM.
The 50-year-old was found by his wife early this morning.
TMZ has learned Mays' body has already been removed from his home.
Story developing ...
He was also in a near airplane crash in a Tampa airport yesterday.
Its been the oddest week. Soooooo many Icons are passing. I hope when he gets to the golden gates he says "BILLY MAYS HERE!!!!"

I honestly think I'm more shocked about this than MJ dying. And I'm serious. I think its because I saw Billy on tv on a multi-daily basis, because I've actually bought some of the stuff he hawks, and because he was in good health. Compared to MJ who hasnt done jack in years, always had health problems and wasnt really someone you think about all that often.
This fucking sucks. I'm starting to get scared. People are dying left and right lately, shockingly so too.

Its the apocalypse, I swear.
Billy Mays will come back as a false prophet/game show host selling a new religion. Ed McMahon will decide the winners and MJ will do all the music and Farrah will be the Price is Right girls. All of them. It'll be called "Your soul or your life!"

I've heard they go in threes....but now fives? The past 2 weeks or so have been fucked.
Like Jackson13 said, I'm more shocked about this than MJ. Sure, the MJ thing was shocking...but this is a total surprise (as with any celebrity death). Any chance Vince had something to do with it? Maybe poisoned a muffin or something?

I heard he hit his head in that plane that had problems with its landing gear the day before he died. I'm wondering if this is another incident like Natasha Richardson after she hit her head skiing and was dead several hours later.

I'm wondering that too:
Mays was on board a US Airways flight from Philadelphia that landed safely at Tampa International Airport Saturday afternoon after the front tires on the plane blew out, resulting in bumps and bruises to some passengers.
"Just had a close call landing In Tampa," Mays said on his Twitter page Saturday. "The tires blew out upon landing. Stuck in the plane on the runway. You can always count on US Air."
It was not known how Mays might have been affected by the hard landing.
"Anything we could say would be sheer speculation," Lt. Dugan said.

Pretty suprised about this. It's messed up, Like BigRed said, apparently Mays hit his head on a rough plane landing the day before. I think he probably got an aneurism and thats what lead to his death.
Really crazy how life is, just reminds you to live every day like its your last.

The head injury may just be the factor:
billy Mays after the landing:
"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," he said. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

"HI BILLY MAYS HERE!!!! GOT GRIME OR MILDEW STAINS ON THE PEARLY GATES!? TRY MY PRODUCT OXYCLEAN!!! TO CUT MILDEW IN HALF!!! "
Atleast he cared about his products and customers and seemed to be a real friendly guy.
I read earlier that he mentioned being hit hard in the head by the oxygen mask when they had the hard landing.

He was just on the Late Show a couple nights ago. I loved Billy Mays' persona, but I swear to god he pitched some of the most worthless shit I've ever come across that wasn't intended to get you high. OxyClean™ didn't do shit. I bought some MendIt™ and it came undone in the wash.
Then there was Orange Glo™. Orange Glo™ actually did bring back life to that old desk we had in the office. It brought back the sheen. That stuff was awesome, and it left a great odor. Man, I can't express in word Mays used to describe how good that product was.
Rest in peace, Mays. You rocked your job like no other, and seemed like a nice guy.

I remember a few months ago, I was talking to one of my friends, saying how in 2008 it seemed like a lot of great people were dying every month and how I was glad that in 2009, things didn't seem to be going that way.
Oops. I think I may have jinxed the world.

Good point. I think the better phrase would have been "icon." Because whether or not you really cared much about the guy, he really was the face of infomercials for our generation.

Where did someone say "idol"?
And not to give you shit, SkyNet, but clearly you were setting out to give those who call him an idol shit, but really man, what does it matter? I love you, buddy, but come on man, is in light of death where you want to start complaints about semantics? :(

i think i got Idol and Icon mixed up in my post
and my intention was never to cause shit, i do apologize if that is how it came off.
what i meant was, this dude was a fairly popular dude who was on TV, and i just thought it was weird to call him an "Icon", when it was just a dude who was on TV!
But perhaps it was a bit cold of me to mention that in a thread discussing his sudden and tragic death, and i do apologize about that.

Popular product pusher Billy Mays had an enlarged heart and likely died over the weekend of a pulmonary embolism, or blocked artery, a medical examiner told reporters on Monday. There was no sign of head trauma. He was 50.
Dr. Vernard Adams told reports that Mays' heart weighed 500 grams, or about 17.6 ounces. A typical male heart weighs about 10-12 ounces. The "heart disease that was found was certainly capable of causing the sudden death that he experienced."
There was no indication of drug abuse, prescription or otherwise. Further test need to be made and the official ruling of cause of death won't be available for several weeks, Adams said.
Mays told his wife, Deborah, he didn't feel well when he went to bed Saturday night. In the morning she found the booming-voiced OxiClean pitchman unconscious. Earlier in the day, he said he was hit on the head when the airplane he was riding in had a rough landing at Tampa Bay's airport.
However, doctors found no evidence of head trauma during the autopsy.
The airline, U.S. Airways, said no passengers reported any serious injuries, and Mays himself cheerfully recounted the landing for a local TV station. The bumpy landing occurred because the plane blew its front tires.
Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said linking Mays' death to the landing would "purely be speculation." She said Mays' family members didn't report any health issues with the pitchman, but said he was due to have hip replacement surgery in coming weeks.

Billy Mays - autopsy results in 2-3 days.
Michael Jackson - autopsy results in 20-30 years.

Autopsy: Cocaine contributed to Billy Mays' death
By MITCH STACY (AP) – 1 hour ago
TAMPA, Fla. — An official autopsy report released Friday found that cocaine use contributed to the heart disease that suddenly killed TV pitchman Billy Mays in June, but his family called the finding "speculative" and was considering getting an independent look at the results.
The Hillsborough County medical examiner's office previously determined that the bearded, boisterous TV spokesman had a heart attack in his sleep. His wife found him unresponsive in bed in their Tampa condo June 28.
Mays, 50, was a pop-culture fixture with his energetic commercials pitching gadgets and cleaning products like Orange Glo and OxiClean.
While heart disease was the primary cause of his death, the medical examiner listed cocaine as a "contributory cause of death."
The medical examiner "concluded that cocaine use caused or contributed to the development of his heart disease, and thereby contributed to his death," the office said in a press release.
The office said Mays last used cocaine in the few days before his death but was not under the influence of the drug when he died. Hillsborough County spokeswoman Lori Hudson said nothing in the toxicology report indicated the frequency of Mays' cocaine use.
Cocaine can raise the arterial blood pressure, directly cause thickening of the left wall of the ventricle and accelerate the formation of atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries, the release said.
The toxicology tests also showed therapeutic amounts of painkillers hydrocodone, oxycodone and tramadol, as well as anti-anxiety drugs alprazolam and diazepam. Mays had suffered hip problems and was scheduled for hip-replacement surgery the day after he was found dead.
Mays' family questioned the finding of cocaine and criticized the medical examiner's officer for issuing the report.
"We were totally unaware of any non-prescription drug usage and are actively considering an independent evaluation of the autopsy results," Mays' family said in a statement.
The statement said the family was "extremely disappointed" by the release of the information. They said the report "contains speculative conclusions that are frankly unnecessary and tend to obscure the conclusion that Billy suffered from chronic, untreated hypertension, which only demonstrates how important it is to regularly monitor one's health."
Longtime friend and colleague AJ Khubani, founder and CEO of the "As Seen on TV" product company Telebrands, said Mays never showed any signs of drug use and was always prepared for his many commericial shoots.
"I'm just shocked," Khubani said. "He was the model of a responsible citizen."
Mays, a McKees Rocks, Pa., native, developed his style demonstrating knives, mops and other "As Seen on TV" gadgets on Atlantic City's boardwalk. For years he worked as a hired gun on the state fair and home show circuits, attracting crowds with his booming voice and genial manner.
He got his start on TV on the Home Shopping Network and then branched out into commercials and infomercials. He developed such a strong following that he became the subject of a reality TV series, Discovery Channel's "Pitchmen."
