View Full Version : How Do You Take Your POPCORN?

This poll is only for people who enjoy eating popcorn at the movies. If you dislike popcorn(and I can't imagine why), save it for the foodie thread.

I'm a butter and salt in the middle and top man, myself.
Haven't done the M&M thing in a long while, but you should try it if you haven't.

That's nuts, John - I had no idea others did the peanut M & M thing, since it was something I just happened upon one time and stuck with. In fact, having not seen this thread until now, I just posted this...

http://joblo.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3066355&postcount=8

Though, I don't go for the butter and salt, but just the M&M's make up for that (chocolate having oil and peanuts being salty...)

I feel like organizing a parade.

True story. My fiancee and are getting married in 3 months and we decided to try and start our family ASAP.

Up until the last couple of weeks she had always bemoaned the fact that I was on JoBlo instead of talking/listening to her. Until, that is, the thread in General about how popcorn improves sexual appetite, et cetera.

Now I get the extra large bucket - all to myself, mind - at every film we see!

There is no moral to this story - and I could have quite simply told you that I like my popcorn lightly sweetened - but I just wanted you guys to know that not only am I being treated to popcorn, I am being rewarded for eating it.

:D

Yeah, see my post there as I responded in kind. I first discovered this golden combination while watching Speed in the summer of '94. I only know of one or two people who do this. I like mine really greasy so I put the butter and salt in too.

The fact that we posted this at exactly the same time is indeed strange. Is your nose itching again...?

Plain. But then again, movie theater popcorn isn't really plain in the strictest sense.

I guess plain, but my local cinema does a sweet popcorn. It's F****ing C**t Sh***ing Delicious.

If I'm feeling naughty I'll put some butter on it, but for the most part I just take it plain how they make it. Although most places I find pre butter and salt it anyways... so 'plain' is just however the hell they give it to me.

Butter makes my mouth so dry. So I get it plain all the time.

Off-shoot question:

How many here actually finish their popcorn?

Usually for me, my wife, and kid, a small popcorn will last us for two trips to the movies.

Do you mean kettle corn? I love kettle corn. I make a homemade version in a pot.

Very rarely. I hate wasting food. But when you place the bag on the floor, who knows what's crawling down there.
I've brought it home a couple times.

Butter and salt on top.

IF I get popcorn, I like just butter on top and in the middle. But my local theater has really crappy popcorn that tastes like shit and takes like 2 days to digest so I usually just get a pretzel or sneak in some candy.

Here's a trick I do (butter AND salt):

I get a full bag and stick a straw in the middle of the popcorn and pour the butter into the straw so the butter seeps to the lower regions of the popcorn. I slowly pull the straw up and pour butter in so I get all my layers covered. Pour a little butter on top. Salt it with the "powdery" salt they have. Steal the salt shaker temporarily. Salt as needed during the movie. Return salt shaker.

Works every time....

By the way, if you're seen doing this...tell them 'the clever guy' told you this trick....otherwise you owe me a fucking quarter.

I'm really intrigued by that Peanut M&Ms way.

Plain, with salt.

Even better:

With jalapenos!

(seriously, if your theater has real jalapenos, you need to try that shit.)

M&Ms are really good too. Plain, peanut, peanut butter, even Reece's Pieces if you roll that way.

I can't stand butter, though. That shit's just gross. Probably because it's not really butter. Actually, the oil it's cooked in and the "butter flavored topping" really aren't that far off. If we run out of oil, we throw butter in the kettle to make popcorn. It comes out fine, but tastes a little strong (butter wise).

The works......

unless I'm seeing E.T. in the theaters which I recently did so I had to get Reese's Pieces :D

Popcorn is essential during movie watching however. It is like having the lights off for a horror movie...it's required.

Same recipe I grew up with at home: extra butter with a TON of parmesan cheese and a healthy dose of garlic salt. I bring them with me to the theater. :)

Ah yes, parmesan cheese. That's what I'll do at home actually.

This would definitely be my choice if it were up there. I absolutely adore Kettle Corn. It is beyond delicious.

I take my popcorn like I take my women... burnt to a crisp and smothered in butter.

Butter must be an American thing. I just have plain salt (the only other choice at my cinemas is plain).

Butter, salt AND Peanut M&Ms?! How can I say no to that? It's the perfect combo :)

I was actually pissed off today to discover that they have discontinued the Orville Redenwhatever Pour Over Butter popcorn, my home theater viewing snack of choice. I hate that crappy in the bag butter and my popcorn doesn't feel right unless it's smothered in wet hot butter to me. :p
So now I have to use subpar butter topping until I find a better way. I've tried melting regular butter... It doesn't work. :(

Butter, no salt, i also enjoy the seasonings they have at the theater. Sometimes yellow mustard or tabasco.

I prefer it with salt . . . but not that much.

My girlfriend likes it with a boatload of butter. So we go with that a lot.

This pour over butter deal grosses me out so much.

I rarely partake in the popcorn but when I do I like it just slightly sweetened. I rather like Butterkist toffee popcorn but I can't take more than a couple of handfuls.

about a good 30-some seconds of holding the butter button.

In other words with a ton of lard.
