New Resident Evil Film By September 2010
By Brian Ashcraft, 5:00 AM on Thu Jul 2 2009

Director Paul W.S. Anderson talked up (spoiler alert!) a new Resident Evil film last fall. Anderson has been busy working on drafts of the script, and the film is supposedly set in Tokyo and Alaska.

An insider has told ShockTillYouDrop.com that an internal studio memo is pegging Resident Evil: Afterlife for a theatrical release by September 17, 2010.

No word on whether star Milla Jovovich has officially signed on for this picture.

Milla Jovovich Confirms "Number Four"
By Brian Ashcraft, 12:00 AM on Fri Jul 3 2009

Chatter is swirling that the newest Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, is aiming for a September 17, 2010 release. Last night, Milla Jovovich said this to a crowd of paprazzi:

We're going to start shooting at the end of the year.

It's hard to hear exactly what Jovovich was asked to prompt that response. (Though the minute of footage of her droning on and on about her child? We can here that just fine.)

A paprazzi follows up Jovovich's reply by asking, "Which one is this?" Gesturing, Jovovich said, "Four."

One insider reports that Jovovich confirmed to him directly that she has signed on to do Resident Evil: Afterlife and filming will start at the end of the year.

This is one of those few game to movie translations where I don't care how close they get to the game. I actually liked the film series.

I'd like the tone of the first film again...but that is unlikely.

The first film is the only good one in the series. The tone, atmosphere and claustrophobic setting are really what made that film what it was. The other two were just below average zombie flicks where people and zombies had plenty of room to roam, making it much less intense and interesting.

I hate this film franchise. They need to start over and use the game storyline in the films. It would be epic done that way.Put Capcom in the title to seperate the new ones from these horrible films.I dream of what could be done with resident evil...one of my favorite games EVER!!

Resident Evil 1 (Starring Jill And Chris in the mansion)
Resident Evil 2 (Staring Claire And Leon in Racoon City)
Resident Evil 3 (staring Jill Taking on the nemesis...sweet!)

I dont know if ppl really liked 4 nd 5 (i did) so i wont list those..i hated code veronica and the other ones.THESE GAMES CAN BE ADAPTED TO MOVIES...i still have hope.lol

I even thought the first film stunk. The second film was pure garbage. The only positive thing I can think of in regards to the third was the direction by Russell Mulcahy.

I hate this movie series. I'm a fan of the games, but the movies came nowhere even near their potential-- it's like comparing Day of the Dead 2: Contagium to Day of the Dead. Speaking of which, the third Resident Evil film was a shameful and blatant copy off of Day of the Dead.

If I want stupid and fun modern genre fare with girls and guns, I'll watch the Underworld movies.

4 is largely considered a classic among the gaming community. 5, eh, not so much though I personally really enjoyed it. One problem some have with 5 is that it didn't advance much, game play wise, from it's predecessor.

No go for me, Extinction was pretty terrible, and pretty much guaranteed me to stay away from the franchise. Seriously, what the hell was so wrong with the original video game characters and storyline? I don't care that I would know what would happen, it would be cool to see how the video game sequences would translate onto the big screen.

Did the "Wesker wearing shades" thing in the third movie piss anyone else off to no end? He just looks goofy as hell, being in an underground bunker during the end of the world, wearing sunglasses. Hell, we know he did in the game, but it was cheesier than Velveeta in the third movie.

Then again, Anderson may claim it's "one of those attributes I carried over from the game to keep fans happy." Oh, yeah, Alice and fucking with the rest of the RE universe is no biggie, but Wesker's shades?! Shit man, we can't fuck that up!

THAT is not Wesker: THIS is Wesker. This is the Wesker that always was and always will be the ultimate badass of 'Resident Evil'

http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/4432/186462-wesker1_large.jpg

However, I personally didn't mind the first film. The second one was pretty naff and the third one managed to claw back a little bit of credibility the series might have had if it were half way original.
I want to also say that I personally don't mind Milla. I have seen a few films in which she proves that she CAN actually act, plus she is honest- she wasn't very happy with the second movie either and she made that known even before it came out. Also, she doesn't appear in every second tabloid like many other celebrities these days and manages to keep her private life private. However, I really don't like the character of Alice and I think she should be doing better stuff.

Not just the shark tank, but think about the snake room, the Tyrant lab, and the Hunters creeping down the hallways without makng so much as a sound.

I do kinda agree. I said she acted the part, but it was not like she got alot to act with. It's been awhile since i saw the movie(only saw it at the movies) so my memory might be rusty, but i do remember liking what is saw, it was just a pity she got so little to do.

I was expecting her to fight Nemesis, but her character got completely shoved aside by Alice.

Fucking super-Alice. I liked her in the first one, but i hated that character once she got super-powers to fight with. Super powers are a bad-guy device. Give it to good guys in a horror movie and u lose the horror aspect completely.

I was happy they were doing a part 3 because i figured her character might have more to do, being a central figure in the games, but no such luck. Instead she got removed from things completely.

Maybe in part 4 she can play side-kick again.:( But probably not, since given the ending to part 3, Alice will have clones aplenty to play with.

You get your wish since it looks like Super-Alice versus Super-Wesker in the next one.

I did not mind the powers, but for a movie about 'survival horror' it takes away all sense of threat when she is the strongest thing in the movie.

Having Alice go against Nemisis in a fist fight was a huge "..this is the best they can do!?!" moment for me.

Looks way more like a Matrix sequel than a Resident Evil flick (though I haven't played an RE game myself since Nemesis, so maybe that's just how the series has progressed for all I know). I was disappointed they didn't reveal any scenes involving Chris Redfield but the Executioner looked great, the scenes with Wesker seem exciting and I'm loving all the locations (from LA to Alaska). Probably my least favorite theatrical film franchise going. Trailer looks either a clever parody or a superstupid movie. But you know what! Consider the source material. To the uninitiated (if I may speak for them) that picture of Wesker is also superstupid. The style of his design has been perfectly communicated to this film, judging by the trailer.

RE 1- 7/10

RE2- 5/10

RE3- 5/10

I dunno, i just think it looks like alot more fun, with the inclusion of Wesker, Chirs, ect, ect, and what looks to be a more RE4 style plot line, i honestly think this will be a better effort then the last two, and probably on par with the first one.

Well at least they're trying to make up for ignoring the games storylines and destroying their characters. I thought I heard Jill was coming back for this, but I didn't see her in the trailer. With the inclusion of Chris (after four movies they finally decide to bring in the game's main man, well done Mr Anderson!) it just seems logical to bring back Jill as well.

The trailer proves this film will offer nothing more than I've come to expect from this series: dumb fun and lots and lots of action. Having said that, I love this shot:

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/reafterlife3.jpg

which is the closest thing I've seen to a decent throwback to the games, and it looks like they've done a mildly better job with Wesker than last time, making him a badass and giving him scenes with Chris, which is what any Resident Evil film should center around, not the director's wife jumping off walls.

That is a shame, I'm one of the many hoping for a reboot of this franchise in the near future, but Sienna Guillory would still be my number one choice for Jill. I'm actually surprised to see many Schmoes in the article and (especially on Bloody-Disgusting) loving on this new trailer. I don't want to assume anything from particular audience members, but I think it's possible that some are just getting that "new trailer" rush. Perhaps it's because the trailer snuck up on us when we weren't expecting it and that's causing some to go apeshit in excitement. I'm not saying that there aren’t fans of the franchise--obviously there are since the series has been very financially successful, but I can’t understand why many who hated the previous films watched this trailer and said, "wow! That looks uber-duber awesome!" It looks even worse than the previous two, which were already pretty damn terrible. What changed? Is it the fact that Resident Evil is now ripping off of The Matrix Reloaded that makes audiences excited? Is it the quick bit of Las Plagas in the trailer? Is it A Perfect Circle? Is it Wesker? Is it the fact that this new film seems to sink to new trash heap levels? I just don't get how yesterday's haters are today's lovers.

Again, no offense meant to any members, I just don’t understand the love from those who hated the other films (I noticed a ton of these on BD). Then again, I’m slightly anticipating Predators despite my insurmountable hate for AVP 1&2, so maybe I just shouldn’t speak…

Oh yeah, I forgot his character was from the games as well. It's just those two I've enjoyed on the big screen, then ;)

I just read that interview with Milla on the main site, where she talks about the clones coming back, and all of a sudden I have zero interest in this film. Just out of interest, are you a fan of the games? Because I can't see how they did anything other than ruin the character. He didn't even look the part, just an oversized rubber suit. The whole point of Nemesis is to hunt down STARS. But in the film he's after Alice. And even that isn't consistent, because obviously Paul Anderson knows better than anyone so Nemesis was actually a man previously in love with Alice, so when he looks into her eyes he suddenly pussies out and backs down. The final fight between Nemesis and Alice was when he had his chance to shine, but she beats him then he dies via helicopter crash. That's just embarassing. You're entitled to your opinion, but I just thought it was the general consensus that the character was in fact the worst thing about the second movie.

Yes I am a fan of the games and I think they nailed the look personally. His turn to the light side was shit, no doubt but for the most part I found him to be the only fun thing to watch in the whole movie.

Fair enough, I actually rewatched it just now to make sure I got some of the details right in that last post, and I will concede he's not the worst part of it all, that would be Alice's superpowers and ability to kill someone by looking at them. I still think LJ and Jill were the best things about the film though. If only the movie had been Nemesis chasing Jill, I would've been much more satisfied.

Watch in marvel and awe as the bullshit comes through to screen to fall into your lap!

The only thing I liked about the trailer was the song by A Perfect Circle.
Lol. And yes, loved the music.

Well, here we go again....

New trailer looks sick. I am officially excited for this (and the return of Jill Valentine!!!!)

By the looks of the preview it seems they're really sticking to the monsters and tone of RE5. Looks awesome.

I think this looks epic, maybe the best one in the series and maybe i just have amnesia, but it seems to be the closest in spirit to the games than the other three. Wesker looks badass.

Yeah, that new trailer is awful. I have to give credit however because it does appear someone on the production team has at last picked up one of the games and maybe read the blurb on the back. They've obviously still not played the games because there's again no evidence of the actual Resident Evil storylines. What they have managed to do though (after three movies) is bring in the game's main protaganist and do a pretty decent job of casting him as well, and Wesker looks a little more like Wesker than last time. The film itself of course looks terrible. Why did they have to show the Alice clones at the end? Just when I'd started getting my hopes up that they'd put all that stupidity behind them.

It's just going to be two more hours of Anderson trying to convince us his androgynous bean pole of a wife who couldn't act off of a rock is this infallible goddess capable of anything. No thank you.

clips are horrible but this featurette isnt too bad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npaGtadn-8I

i find the lack of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine presence disturbing tho. Luther is so gonna die haha.

Not a big fan of 3D movie in general but it may work for this since it was shot in 3D ( not like Clash of the Titans) and the story gives a lot of excuses for cool 3D shot .... we'll see in 1 week.
