Scorpion Confirms "Mortal Kombat 3" Movie

I couldn't be bothered digging for the last MK3 movie post :p

Warner Bros recently announced that it has picked up most of Midway Games' assets in bankruptcy court, giving the studio rights to "Mortal Kombat," "Spy Hunter," "Joust" and several other game franchises. What Warners was planning to do with the properties was unknown.

Now, actor Chris Casamassa tells SGV Tribune that he's set to start filming the third "Mortal Kombat" film in September. The 44-year-old eighth-degree black belt previously played the Scorpion character in the original "Mortal Kombat," but was replaced in the sequel.

And while Casamassa confirmed the new movie, he did not mention that he would reprise his role. So there's still a chance that Warner Bros may not be looking to simply bring back the original cast from the 1995 "Mortal Kombat" movie.

Even though his acting in MK amounted to staring into the camera and widening his eyes, he did kick some mighty ass as Scorpion; his fight with Johnny Cage was maybe the best in the movie.

That said, this is, what, the eighth "confirmation" we've gotten since about 2000 that MK3 is in the works?

Rumors have been going around for several years now about a third Mortal Kombat so I don't really see this being any different.

I remember Lambert confirming he was going to reprise his role as Raiden back in like 05/06. So really, until there is some actual official announcement or leak or something i won't believe jack or his shit.

Even if there is an official anouncement, I still won't believe it. I'll believe it once I purchase a ticket for it at the theater and hold the ticket in my hand. Until then, all of these "confirmations" are meaningless.

Personally, I'd like to see another MK film. But I don't think it should be a sequel (I wouldn't have a problem with a sequel, though). I think it should be a re-boot, which would give the people involved an opportunity to make a MK film that's true to the games (i.e. a hard R-rated action flick). I liked the original film, but is it anything like the games? Not really. It's rated PG-13, for fuck's sake.

I remember enjoying the first movie when I saw it in theathers. I've only seen bits of the 2nd one on TV and man it is bad. Nobody took that one seriously. I'm not putting a lot of stock into this rumored 3rd entry . . . if anything, they should start from scratch and start over.

Either way, there haven't been any spectacular, mind-blowing movies based on video games . . . doubt this one will start a trend.

I don't agree that there has been no great video game based movies. I know I'm the only one but I loved Max Payne plus Silent Hill and Final Fantasy were great too IMO.

1st of all, YES we do want another MK movie, but done right please. I would like to see Tony Jaa as Lui Kang or maybe even Kung Lao. No fucken animality shifting, and bring back Lambert as Raiden.


And as for ilovemovies, I agree with u on Silent Hill, I would even throw in Hitman but Resident Evil series are horrible. IMO

I'm sorry, but Max Payne is one of the worst movies, and one of the worst, if not the worst game-to-movie adaptations ever. And I thought Hitman was bad. It's a masterpiece when compared to that shitfest, Max Payne. :p

I think if they do MK they need to reboot.

I say that the 1st film should be based on the Original Kung Lao and how he was earths realms champion who was eventually defeated....

then the second should be Liu Kangs part of the story and how he is the chosen one and blah blah.lol

The third should be that after the tournament in part 2 Shao Kahn excercises his right to fight in Mortal Kombat..and all hell ensues


i dont know much about the newer games so idk if they can do films on those..i do know deadly aliance was good enough to make a film on...but idk

I say they remake it with Jet Li playing the great Kung Lao.That would be best.Then the second film can be based on Liu Kang and the rest of them.Tony Jaa can play the 2nd Kung Lao.

It'll be interesting to see what WB actually does with the franchise. Casamassa is full of shit but I think WB will eventually want to do a reboot. It's their series now so hopefully they put some care into it.

Ray Park as Subzero, Chris Evans as Johnny Cage (because it would be awesome), and Colin Chou as Aged/Young Shang Tsung. Gary Oldman can be Raiden. Because he's a badass.

Casamassa also played Scorpion in the short lived Mortal Kombat Conquest television show. To which I own every episode. For its sheer awesomeness.
