View Full Version : Nicolas Cage to Reboot "Ghost Rider"

We already know that Nicolas Cage is looking to make a sequel to "Ghost Rider." And now, MTV News caught up with the actor to find out whether it will actually be a sequel or a reboot.

http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/headlines/headline13255.jpg

"I would like to do a reconceive," Cage explained. "I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that's what they're talking about. I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story."

Back in September, Cage discussed some ideas for the second installment: "Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he's connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with 'The Da Vinci Code' and things like that."

A reboot of Ghost Rider that still has Nicholas Cage in it and he's on a motorcycle tour through Europe. Are they trying to make it shitter? Good start if they are.

So basically Ghost Rider meets Angels & Demons. Cage knows what he's doing that's why he plays in so many shitty movies every year.

I saw the last 15-20 minutes of the Ghost Rider and I couldn't believe how bad it was. It definitely needs a reboot . . . just not with Nicolas Cage.

Didn't Cage say he was going to quit acting, like, over a year ago? What happened there?

Anyway, I'm in the minority that actually liked Ghost Rider and I can watch Cage in petty much anything he's in, no matter how awful a movie it may be (Cough***Wicker Man**COUGH**).

I'm just glad this is going to be a straight-up sequel (I'm getting the impression that they're just changing the tone, not restarting the story altogether), and not some lame straight to video cash-in with cheap F/X and starring Kevin Sorbo.

Okay, I've wondered this - said "No way!" Then I thought about it more, dismissed it again. This circle has gone on for quite sometime, but it's a done deal... If I won the lottery on Monday, I'd be financing a Nic Cage/Uwe Boll collaboration on Tuesday. I'd be killed by Thursday, and on Friday, someguy would be correct in saying I died doing what I loved. Best week ever, man.

He is going to reboot it into a shit-hole!

But it's already a shit-hole. So basically he's installing a toilet in a shit-hole (the toilet diving scene from Trainspotting just popped into my head). I can't believe this isn't some kind of joke. The first movie is the worst superhero flick I've ever seen (and that really is saying a lot) and someone thinks it'll work to reboot it with the same actor only two years later? And Cage actually uttered a phrase wherein he compared a potential reboot to the fucking Da Vinci Code? The man has absolutely no fucking clue what this book is about.

I liked Ghost Rider a little bit, I certainly didn't hate it. But it wasn't a good movie.

Rebooting is a good idea, just not with Cage, that is fucking pointless.

Reboot it and give the role to Thomas Jane. That would be the best choice imo.

Is there seriously no capable directors high up enough in the biz who dig this character enough to make something worthwhile of this? I mean, Cage CAN work for this, it's just this shit's stench seems to go so far noone wants to touch it.

Columbia Pictures has begun to rev the throttle on a second installment of the Marvel Comics character Ghost Rider. David Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) is in early talks to create the story and supervise writers for a film expected to once again star Nicolas Cage (as we first reported here), who played the highly flammable cyclist in the 2007 original. Through a spokesperson, Goyer said he hadn’t signed on yet. But plans are already under way to base the sequel on a “Ghost Rider” script written years ago by Goyer, whose superhero work includes hit screen transfers of DC’s “Batman Begins” and Marvel’s “Blade” franchise. The original “Ghost Rider” was scripted by director Mark Steven Johnson. The activity on “Ghost Rider” follows a flurry of activity on Marvel characters at almost every studio but Disney, which acquired Marvel Entertainment in a $4 billion deal.

Never read the comic and the movie looked so bad that I refused to watch it, so this is maybe a dumb question. But why the fuck would an inflammable character ride a vehicle that runs on gasoline? Just seems, you know, like an accident waiting to happen.

Everyone blames Fox for everything even when they have nothing to do with the move! ;)

Ghost Rider sucked because the story was asinine and action light. The character looked great, the FX was amazing and I really liked the cast. Cage worked well. Eva was great eye candy. Sam Elliot was amazing as usual but wasted in the poorly written role. Write a good story with a REAL villain and spend the budget on actual action and Ghost Rider: Revenge will be a good film.

Yea i blame fox for everything.lol.But columbia pictures made killed GR.
Let me describe what i hated (it was alot but ill choose the worst of it)

-The Jelly Beans in the martini glass.
-The Humor used.Ghost rider is suppose to be a dark film.
-Sam Elliots last transformation (just to go with Gr to a spot but not fight or really DO anything)
-Eva Mendes looked hot but i couldnt stand her in the film.
-Blackheart/Legion SUCKED!!
-The fights where so fast i actually walked out a room to pee,cam back, and a fight was done.lol
-Nic Cage and that awkward looking point he does to people. When he did it to Mephisto i laughed so hard.lol

And also i have a question.Does Nic Cage look like Johnny Blaze in this.Cuz i remember him looking like......8074.......just with pants that match his shirt and no coat, hair a lil shorter....Right???Or am i crazy.lol

Its cool that David S. Goyer's along for the ride now but they need to get rid of Nick Cage. Ive gotten to the point where I wont watch his movies at all which is a shame because in the 90s I saw everyone of his. I havent seen all of the first just bits and pieces and it sucks and he sucks in it.

Enough already the first was terrible, the premise for the movie is a bad idea (a fucking skeleton riding a motorcycle with a flame whip chain?) I have never been big on superhero type movies but come on if Nick is needing cash for back taxes I will send him $5.00 to not make this movie.......

P.S.
Mr. Cage I thought you were awesome in 8mm and Wild at Heart and am looking forward to Bad Lieutenant, stick to making dark movies that have you play a crazy bastard that is what you are best at and avoid all this Disney family friendly bullshit. Thanks your friend Mr. Brow.....

I agree with almost every point. All of that can be traced back to an absolutely horrible script and story. The minute they decided to shoot that script, the movie was doomed. Maybe the biggest crime is the fight scenes you mentioned. Flicking a chain and engaging in staring contests can't be your only action.

They also had the wrong director. I like the Daredevil director's cut so, I'm not a MSJ hater but he delivered a mess with GR. I may be one of the few people to watch Ghost Rider with the director's commentary on. I was scratching my head at some of the things he said. One that I remember is that he insisted they spend over a quarter of a million dollars on creating that tree they met under. It wasn't a real tree. I was amazed at what they wasted budget on only to learn that they had to scale back any action because of cost. Way to completely blow the movie in pre-production.

I think any film like this does need moments of humor, however. Just because they didn't work in GR doesn't mean they need to go all grim in GR2. Dark? Yes, but a clean the pallet with a couple of chuckles.

Although he doesn't look like Johnny Blaze, I still like Cage in the role.

It's funny that Cage compares it to The DaVinci Code, because you know what other movie was kind of like The DaVinci Code? National Treasure. Of course, he would have sounded pretty stupid saying it was going to be like National Trea... wait, why didn't he just say that?

I hated the campiness/silliness of the first movie. Ghost Rider as a one line delivering ass kicker? I mean I didn't really read the comics, but I got into them for a stretch in the era of Ketch and Ghost Rider and the Midnight Sons. Back in the 90s. I found it fantastic until they killed Ghost Rider off and had Vengeance take over for awhile. It fell off the tracks there, but nonetheless, Ghost Rider was never a one liner kind of demon.

The movie should have been dark and grim. Ghost Rider was as big a disappointment as the pg13 Spawn movie.

David Goyer last week was announced to be in talks with Columbia Pictures to create the story and supervise the writers for Ghost Rider 2. He's a producer.

In an interview, he says the sequel will be based on his 9-year-old script, which they are going to polish up as it was written as a hard R rating whereas the studio wants to make it a PG-13 film. He adds that fans shouldn't worry as they did get away with a lot in The Dark Knight's PG-13 rating. He did say GR2 will be more violent and action packed, thank goodness.

NOTHING sucked like street fighter....nothing!!Spawn was pretty bad.I think ghost rider was worse due to the complete lack of a fight scene that last longer than 60 seconds until the last one ,which was still lame.lol

I say marvel needs to take control of all the failed movies and make them correctly.Like IM,IH,SM1+2 and (so far it sounds good),thor. They all are good.I think Fantastic Four,Punisher, and daredevil(.....dear god daredevil sucked!!lol) should be done justice.

I dont like Nic Cage as Blaze.Mendez is hot but i couldnt stand her.And they need to get better directors who ....dont suck.lol.And the story has to be focused on hard and they have to flesh out the charecters.Im i think did great in that aspect.I just want all or most my beloved comic charecters done justice.i know they all cant....but atleast the important ones:cool:

MTV talked to David Goyer about what we can expect for Ghost Rider 2, which he says is "not exactly a reboot," picks up eight years after the first film, and is targeting a 2010 shoot.

"I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker," Goyer added. "It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

The cast was great and the FX was cool. The story just absolutely sucked the first time around. Write a good story with actual villains and action and this one could be very good indeed. They need to include some Eva Mendez nudity if they are taking requests...

Trailer just hit.

Looks cool.Love the more edgy look.

I am one of the few souls on Earth who found harmless fun in the first. It's just one of those empty calorie type movies for me. But it did have some major problems. Give is some villains that actually feel like a threat and already you have a huge advantage over the first.

Him peeing reminds me it's the Crank guys.

But if you look closely there are no other objects in the scene and it's all blacked out aside from Ghost Rider and the fire. There's a chance it's a trailer gimmick and isn't in the actual movie.

Either way this movie looks great. I love Cage and I enjoyed Drive Angry. This has that attitude.

I liked alot of what i saw in this trailer.More of a badass/kickass vibe from it.Im hearing that ghost rider:SOV is from the same dudes that did crank. That sounds good but are they the same guys that did crank 2? Cuz i hated that film. Way over the top with the action. Doing those crzy unrealistic things that honestly were badass AND funny to me. Thats what the ghost rider pissing fire reminds me of.

Now i really like the badassness of this trailer. Ghost Rider films should be dark really really dark. Hopefuly this film goes that route and isnt just a action film.

Also, im not digging how Cage looks when he is Blaze. he looks like he just said "you know what...im not trying to look younger...or changing how i look at all....just make the cgi ghost rider and ima stay looking how i look" which i dont like..I wanted him to go for the Johnny Blaze posted below..
