http://www.aliceinchains.com/ NOT SAFE FOR WORK
So they released the video for the first single off the new album. I gotta say that it's decent but if you're gonna put it under the AiC moniker, it pales in comparison to any of the other material. Why would it be so hard for the guys to recruit this dude (who isn't a bad vocalist) and just start up another band?

Even though it says you have to be 18, be advised that the video is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Contains nudity.

The song sounds ok, musically it is definitely Alice in Chains. The new singer sounds pretty close to Staley which is fine with me. Will need to hear more before I go judging though.

Yeah, sorry bout that. Slipped my mind. Editing the former post.

I got to hear a couple of the songs live from decent quality bootleg sources (and let me tell yeh, Duvall sounds nothing like Staley live) and the songs sound like classic AiC songs just beaten down and dragged out.

It's unreasonable to expect this record to be as good as Dirt or Jar of Flies. This is almost a debut record. They're re-learning everything. Bands don't reunite as the same band they were 15-20 years ago (especially when the line-up is different). The song is good. I doubt that it's one of the best songs on the record, though.

Wow that's one fucked up video. The song is okay. It's got to be hard for a band like AIC to get going again when you've had your sound jacked by bands like Staind and Taproot for the last 10 years. And the whole dead lead singer thing can't help.

I see on their website where AIC is playing in Pomona with Tool in August, some kind of KROQ Epicenter festival. Be sweet to go, but tickets for the shit seats are 80.00! I don't know.

It shouldn't really be that hard for Jerry to nail the classic AiC sound. His solo albums Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip Vol. 1 & 2 are like lost AiC records and the only thing missing from them is the vocal harmonies with Layne. Someone mentioned this elsewhere, but one of the main problems with this newer stuff is how bombastic and upfront the guitars are, where previous albums and Jerry's solo discs created a balance between the guitar, bass and drums. It really is just "meh" writing more than it is any anger at the band for continuing or using the AiC banner.

I think the new song is okay, it's no Would?, Rooster, Rotten Apple, Got me Wrong, Grind, etc. but it's certainly better than most of the new shit on the radio.

I must say that I really like their new singer, he sounds very similar to Layne -though nothing can ever truly replace him. The guitars are also super fierce, it has that down-tuned chugging sound that I associate with AIC's best rockers. I think the weakest part of the song is the chorus, the verses are just way better. That and it does drag on a bit long but it's certainly not a bad song.

I picked up the new AIC- "Black Gives Way to Blue"- today. I only listened to the first 5 songs so far. But I enjoy it. It has the same feel as the other AIC albums do. The songs I heard so far are heavier rock. But one was a slower moodier song.

I like it alot.

It's not released until the 29th. Where did you buy it?

I go to a local CD shop. They are only open Fri-Sun. So, they get the new Tues. stuff the Fri. before.

I listened to the whole CD. I really liked it. Its nothing new. But if you liked Alice in Chains then, you'll like this album. A good mix of the hard rock songs and the more acoustic stuff.

that's almost on the same level as the dudes from Creed abandoning Stapp, then forming Alterbridge.

That's from my few listens so far, they have done very well on this album.

Happened to be in a Target the day after this came out and grabbed it for 10 bucks. Glad I did--it's nice to hear the Alice sound again.

I have to say though that the 2nd half of the album falls off big time for me, right after #6. Loved everything up to that though. Damned if William Duvall doesn't sound uncannily like Layne sometimes, but it's often hard to differentiate his vocals from Jerry's in the mix.

Yeah I found the same thing, although the second half has grown on me a lot. Loving Acid Bubble, All Secrets Known and Black Gives Way to Blue at the moment.

Just bought it today and I'm really liking it so far, a really solid album. My favourite song would have to be Last of my Kind, which just rocks huge

This was a pleasant surprise as this album turned out to be one of my favorites this year. It sounds no different from classic AIC and that's a good thing.
