While this project is still a ways off, I thought it merited some discussion.

Returning to his British roots, Joe Wright's (ATONEMENT) next project is INDIAN SUMMER, which chronicles the last years of British rule in India. Although filming is not set to begin until early next year, Cate Blanchette has become the first to join the cast, portraying Lady Edwina Mountbatten.

While I was disappointed by THE SOLOIST, I think this project is right up Wright's alley, and I can't wait to hear who else will join the cast.

I wonder if Ben Kingsley would be interested in reprising the role of Gandhi.

I have to be honest. I really don't like Joe Wright movies. They make Chariot's of Fire look as transgressive as Irreversible. I never liked the term but all of his movies are predictable oscar bait, even Atonement, which has one of the most narratively useless, self indulgent long takes for nothing more than to bring attention to itself.

Hmmm . . . there's already a movie called Indian Summer with Alan Arkin and Bill Paxton, but totally different subject matter.

Anyway . . . I enjoyed Atonement, but wasn't really interested in seeing The Soloist. Hard to go wrong with Cate Blanchett though, especially in a period film.
