Harry lays it down over here at AICN.
I don't have the firm release date, but I do know who is directing the WORLD OF WARCRAFT film and that is Sam Raimi. It will come out in trades later this week or next. But you can take this one to the bank. Sam is going to make a huge budget fantasy bit of unfuckingimaginable coolness - and it will be yanked from the WORLD OF WARCRAFT.
I'd like to go on the record as saying I am incredibly excited about this attachment. In the past I've been very harsh on the idea of a World of Warcraft movie. Frankly, I've been terrified of it. You see, for those of you who haven't played it, WoW is very European in its sensibilities of good and evil. In the World of Warcraft, Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Gnomes band together to fight a desperate battle against the evil hordes of Orcs, Trolls, Minotaurs (Tauren) and the Undead. Except...well...the Orcs, Trolls and Tauren aren't really evil. They're just...different. And they've found themselves at war with the Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Gnomes that have for so long tried to conquer and destroy them.
It's a complicated world with no real good guys. There are, however, bad guys. REALLY bad guys. Like the Dragon that had enslaved a king and replaced him with a doppelganger. And evil things lurking in the center of the molten core. And invading hordes from other dimensions.
And what terrifies me is that execs are going to look at this large, sweeping, politically complicated world...and see another story in which A human, an elf, a dwarf and some hobbits gnomes go off on a quest to fight against orcs, trolls, undead creatures and all manner of monsters. I've seen that movie. And Being a direct lift of both Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons, The World of Warcraft movie has little chance of being anything different unless it is placed in the right hands - someone who will say "You know what we HAVEN'T seen before? A movie about an Orc, a Troll, a Minotaur and a living dead girl who go on a quest to fight against hordes of humans, dwarves, elves and gnomes!"
But Sam Raimi COULD be that man. Almost every last bit of my trepidation has lifted with that possibility. Sam could do it. I believe in him. With fngers crossed, let's hope for the best, huh?
All I can say is, Sam Raimi, what the fuck are you thinking?

My younger bro is so excited about this...I've never played the game so I don't really have an opinion. I love Raimi though so I'll def. check it out...even though it's probably still 3-4 years away.

Care to elaborate on why you object?
I think its a great idea. I've never played the game, but it sounds to me like this is another LOTR. Raimi wouldn't be my first choice to direct this, i'd prefer someone like Cameron, Rid Scott, or Jackson. Raimi could do a pretty good job.

Yeah WOW really sucks as a game, but could be quite promising as a movie. Sam Raimi though......nah.

Because I love Raimi, and after Spider-Man 4 I was hoping he'd go on to direct more serious projects, not tackle another franchise. Especially one based off a really geeky computer game.

never played it. Though i do know it has the capability to suck the life out of someone for hours on end.
I
m kind of disappointed. I'd rather see him tackle something a tad more substantial.

So its okay if he directs a film based on a really geeky comic-book character? I've never played WoW, but I respect what its done for computer games as a whole. I'm glad they didn't just throw this franchise to someone who would destroy it, Uwe Boll. Sam Raimi needs to direct bigger movies because his idea of horror isn't scary its corny and was good for when it was released back in the 80s. Let Spider-Man 4 be the last he does and let him move forward with something else.

a simple plan was his best film but it wasn't anything outstanding, a 7 at a best. the spider-man trilogy i did not rate. that being said evil dead trilogy is fun i admit and i would check evil dead 4 with bruce at the cinema if it does ever see the light of day

I'm not going to say yay or nay just yet. First of all, World of Warcraft...it's got a pretty bad rep from what I hear, and I'm personally just not interested. But we're talking Sam Raimi, who managed to make the Evil Dead movies with literally nothing and the Spider Man trilogy, so I have faith that he can make something worthwhile out of this. I'm not saying that he will, because I honestly dunno, but I know that he has it in him to do so.

World of Warcraft ruins lives.

^ That's half-true. WoW doesn't ruin lives, it's just a game, but it is the perfect vessel for one to do so. I believe that video-games, movies, books, etc. are mainly used for escapism by the general audiences, like a way of giving up on life and dying temporarily. They're feeling down, they're bored, they just don't feel like living at the moment (not to say that they are suicidal, just in need of a break, and there's nothign wrong with that.), so they watch a movie, pick up a novel, or play World of Warcraft, so that they can forget themselves, forget the trivialties of life, etc. I 'spose some people just lose themselves somewhere along the path of living and living the films, or the books, or the game, and life begins to drown out for them. That's how I was when I was a youngster, I had a very difficult life as a kiddie (though it never seemed so bad at the time), and I played video-games a lot. I moved on since then to films, but now that there are very few films that I'm interested in watching lately (not to say I don't enjoy the occasional movie), I've been reading a lot lately. It's all escapism.
My cousin's mother (she divorced my uncle) doesn't even spend time with her daughter. She works a part-time job at a gas-station, and met her current boyfriend (who is living at her house and verbally abuses my cousin at times) through World of Warcraft. He moved into her house from Alabama, (we live in Pennsylvania!) and now he stays there with my cousin and some of my family are scared he may be a pedophile or sumthin'. I haven't met him, but I hear he's pretty spooky. So WoW doesn't ruin lives, imo, just like knives don't hurt people, they're just the weapons used to get the jobs done.

There was a report that someone actually starved to death playing WoW. No lie. Starved. To. Death.

Those reports of people starving to death because of a mmorpg have been around since Ever Quest in the late 90's, and they have always been 100% false.
As for Raimi and WoW, I think this is a great idea. WoW isn't a serious fantasy like LotR, it's more like a satire of the genre. The game is full of tongue in cheek humor, funny references to movies (I even found an Ace Venture reference), and plenty of slapstick. Raimi should treat this like Army of Darkness, and if he does, then he'll do it justice.

What I meant to say was that I wanted to see him move on from franchise movies once Spider-Man was done, not move onto a new one.

I'm curious if this is happening in PLACE of Spider-man 4, or after it because up until this point it seemed pretty clear his next film was going to be that. Hmm...

Sounds like between those two and all the stuff he's been producin' lately, Mr. Raimi's gonna be busy for quite a long time.

You can get un-banned? I feel like Jason Todd just got resurrected.
Not too say I'm opposed or anything. S'all good.
As for the movie, my disinterest isn't because because I hate WoW or anything (though that whole scene is pretty retarded), it's because so far as I can tell it's just another LOTR with different characters. And I hate LOTR.

Suspensions. I've seen a couple of other site members here go through the same thing.
As for Warcraft. I hope it will be different from what I'm thinking, but I'll continue to doubt it till then.

i personally have no interest in a WoW, just like i had no interest when i attempted to play the game and realized it was just hours of pointless chores to build up levels and rep, but i was very surprised when i heard raimi was taking the helm of this.
guy couldnt handle three villains in spider-man 3, so he's going to do attempt something this massive? hmm.

Man the creator of "Drag Me To Hell" gonna be directing this?
World Of Warcraft is really the hottest game in town right now
So be sure that it's gonna be an anticipated movie (http://craveonline.com/) then..

Yeah, I miss Grebdron, as I am sure a bunch of us do. He was funny, wise, acerbic, loyal...
What's the deal? One rule for one and the rest can piss off?
As for Raimi, I bet a million bucks he makes Evil Dead IV. Who wants a piece?

I'm not a betting man, but if I was I'd take a shot. Then again, maybe Raimi has taken all the praise for Drag Me... to heart and is actually considering something.
I thought I couldn't care less about a Spider-Man 4, but WoW took that cake.

I'm confused as to why so many people that hate World of Warcraft and don't even like Sam Raimi films are wasting their time with such negativity. It seems like the cool thing to do is bash Warcraft these days. Many haven't even tried it but people like to jump on bandwagons, at least it provides some entertainment, as opposed to something like Twilight or the Hello Kitty MMORPG. :p

I HATE WOW, but I LOVE Sam Raimi! Still, I'm gonna pass on this one. His eclipse was Army of Darkness ofr me, I mean Spider man 1-3 were fun, but his originality is gone.
hey look on the bright side at least its not Uwe Boll! id take Raimi over him anyday
