I have enormous respect (In more ways that one) for you... But please come off your high horse for a movie or two. I enjoy a lot of her flicks, but it would be great to see her do a fun flick or two. Period films are cool, but show us some fun and energy every once in a while. You say you're just a normal girl doing movies. Don't normal girls like to have fun?

The Holiday was light-hearted and that was in 2006. There's your once, unless we can count Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But Clementine was a bit mental, and a drunk...so...

Yeah, I was going to watch that one... But I'm not sure I can stomach Jack Black. I mean, I watch King Kong... But there is only so much Jack Black I can take.;)

love that episode, it only got richer with it's irony.
There's also Romance and Cigarettes. But that was fucking terrible.

What is Extras?
A sitcom by Ricky Gervais...about extras working on film sets.
It's incredibly funny...watch Quentin's first link.
Some other great clips...
Ian McKellen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43sbtkQM6zc)
Clive Owen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptTMs1rBSwY)
Patrick Stewart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ_L3b7osx4)
Daniel Radcliffe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrSH_UOaO9w)
Samuel L Jackson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNFGvWRA6Tg)
Orlando Bloom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh7qzDJG94M)
David Bowie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4lCOv-nNzg)
George Michael (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5eJgEy9qLs)
I just re-watched them all and am now seriously tempted to re-watch the entire series. Clive Owen's delivery of that line gets me every time. I also think George's story about him and Annie Lennox is brilliant. :D

Yeah watch that Extras clip that Quentin put up*
Her episode is brilliant simply because she managed to predict that she would win an Oscar for a Holocaust movie.

Heh. I think it's about time I went back to re-watch me some Extras.
That Patrick Stewart bit always gets me.

Not really. Bale did American Psycho about a decade ago and it still gets old seeing him play the same basic roles over and over again.

So did you watch extras?
Even though she doesn't do comedies, I hardly think she always does the same role.

I think I respect Winslet more because she hasn't gone the rom com route. She's managed to continue to play roles that are challenging, not cliche, and at the very least interesting to watch.
Plus, she's not afraid to do nudity. Always a plus.

WHAT? You're criticizing an actor/actress for NOT appearing in crappy movies????
I wouldn't mind seeing in Kate in a comedy providing said comedy had some sort of edge to it (think Coens, Wes Anderson, Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry, David O. Russell, Jim Jarmusch, Paul Thomas Anderson, etc.). I'd love to see the also prominently-serious Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Connelly in a film by one of the afore-mentioned directors as well.

No doubt it's painful to see people do the same old rom coms... But how about a decent action movie? How about playing in a movie where you go out there and keep some ass?

Hmm? How are they the same? I can't think of a Bale character that is like Patrick Bateman.

Neither has Bale. But with him it's always: Dark Character. With Kate it's always: Period film Period film Period fiim. I get that feeling of redundancy. As good as Marin Scorsese is with gangster movies, I'm happy he did movies like: Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear and The King of Comedy.

lol. That didn't come out like I meant it to come out.
One exception doesn't change that he has done the same basic things over and over again. Same with Kate. A short program doesn't change that her career work is largely over serious.

Have you seen Holy Smoke, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind and Little Children?
There are more than enough second-rate Actresses out there phoning in their roles in fluffy rom-coms and mediocre action films. They are saturated movie markets...I'm glad Winslet opts for quality roles that seem close to her heart and true to her personal taste. It's commendable.

I don't think there a lot of excellent roles written for women these days, Kate Winslet seems to be stealing them all! :)

Nah. Most of the films on her filmography JUST HAPPEN to not take place in the modern day. I doubt it's deliberate.

I've seen Little children and parts of Holy Smoke.
Why do people have to go from one extreme to another? Nobody is talking about playing in a boatload of rom com's. Just... It's nice when somebody actually stretches themselves a bit. Even a lot of the ones I haven't seen just look like OSCAR bait.
Movies like Revolutionary Road, The Reader look like OSCAR bait movies to me. Sometimes enough is enough. I understand that she is near critic proof to most people, I don't anyone to that level.

She's been quite the Oscar-whore of late, and with success. Now she has one of those golden thingies, which will no doubt fulfil its destiny of being a glorified door-stopper, she might go back to quirkier roles. And when I say quirkier, I mean the "Clementine Krzyszytisnhdnszinsky's" of this world, and not some boring character from a Bullock type romcom.

I love Winslet but IMO, The Reader is actually one of her weaker performances and it's kind of sad to me that that is the movie she wins the oscar for.
Still haven't seen Revolutionary Road yet but I want to really bad and will sometime this week. Since I haven't seen the movie I could be wrong but I suspect she would have been more deserving of her oscar for that movie more than the just okay The Reader.

She was excellent in both. I preferred her in The Reader, though.

No.I've skipped over those. But a friend recently gave me his DVD copy (The first one) as he is going to get blu ray. So I might watch it before long.

I agree. I didn't think she wasn't anything spectacular in The Reader, and I thought she did a much better job in Revolutionary Road.
