Here it is, a thread for discussions of all things R&B, Soul, and Funky.
Everything from the Temptations to Jodeci!
From Diana Ross to Jill Scott!
From Stevie Wonder to John Legend!
From Parliament to Tony Toni Tone!
Yes, even the stuff the kids are listening to, like Chris Brown or Beyonce. If we have to.

lets hope it doesn't come to that...
Anyway, this is my kind of music. I'm obsessed with all things Motown: Temptations, Miracles, Supremes, Marvin, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvelettes, and of course, Stevie. Great beats even today. James Jamerson is the greatest bassist ever
I'm in to most R&B, but classic Motown stands above the rest.

Well this type of music is my favorite stuff to play on bass guitar-for obvious reasons...it's all about the groove! and the feel! Some of my favorite funk/soul R&B bands are-
"Earth, Wind & Fire" -TOP OF THE LIST ALWAYS! Nothing like them before or after-after? I know they still tour etc. BUT like most bands from the 1970's era-only few original members remain...and the music just isn't the same with certain personnel no longer on board.
The Four Tops -Motown recording act I first remember hearing from my mothers .45 rpm collection in mid-late 1960's as a kid. I loved them-saw them in concert with all 4 original members-only 1 left today.
Rufus w/Chaka Khan = good stuff
Michael Jackson - awesome vocalist! totally unique vocal style in studio.
Stevie Wonder - amazing song writer/musician
The Ohio Players - Funk out the wazoo! and how about those soft core porn album covers? ; )
The Brothers Johnson = Funk in your face! gr8 bass work by brother Louis.

I've said it before and I'll say it aaaaaaaaaaaagain! THIS is the funkiest band around right now.
I mean, other than Prince's band of course, but he doesn't count.
