We're being told that Channing Tatum (Fighting, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Public Enemies) has been cast in The Pang Brothers' (The Eye) latest genre effort, The Darkness. Based on the on the Garth Ennis ("Preacher") David Wohl and Mark Silvestri comic, on the eve of his 21st birthday, Jackie was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, "Uncle" Paulie. He finds his body possessed by "the Darkness" , a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feeds off the dark.

I first experienced the story and universe of The Darkness two and a half years ago through the video game. It blew my mind. Then I bought the comic tie-in for the video game and it was also special. I've been really looking forward to a film adaptation for awhile now. It could undo all the damage caused by crappy Spawn/Daredevil/Ghost Rider adaptations in one swoop if it's made and delivered upon its potential.
However, Tatum as Jackie? Really? That's pretty damn rediculous. Jackie is a dark, morally ambiguous and vicious character (like Spawn, he can be quite the antihero). That casting is rotten. Of course, it's also being adapted by the Pang Brothers (Bangkok Dangerous, The Messengers, The Eye) and I haven’t enjoyed a single one of their movies yet.
