Plot Outline: Cliff and Cydney are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back. Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins.

That's the only thing I can think of when the commercials say that there is a big twist at the end.

I hope that's not the case though and the twist is actually surprising. But I doubt it.

Still looks like it could possibly be a fun thriller. And I'm a fan of Twohy's. So I hope this is good.

I'll rent it on Blu Ray though.

Not a big fan of the director, Chronicles of Riddick and Below suck, but I'm in the minority that really diggs Pitch Black.

Regardless, the cast is killer and the trailer is awesome so I'll definetely be checking this out.

Love Milla Jovovich so I'll probably be checking it out. Probably not a good idea though... :)

Are we a minority? Shit.

I rather like Twohy as a director, though Chronicles of Riddick was a big letdown. The Arrival is pretty cool as well.

I'm curious to see this, but I might wait.

Criminally so.

I noticed the cinematography as well. If nothing else, this film will be aesthetically pleasing.

And it's got Steve Zahn. Stamp of approval.

This movie looks interesting. It may not be the greatest movie to happen but it could be entertaining.

I've seen a lot of viral marketing done for this movie. I like to look for different links that are tied into movies about to come out, such as D9. Maybe I spent too much time on the internet but this stuff interests me. I've found a number of different links tied into the movie. Looks like their viral campaign is pretty involved and looks pretty cool too. Check it out below:

I like the director and it has a good cast, but this just doesn't interest me. It doesn't look bad at all, but it isn't a "wow - I gotta see that" movie, either.

And am I the only one annoyed with the title? A Perfect Getaway? That just feels so passive. It should be THE Perfect Getaway, or just Perfect Getaway. Using "A" just sounds bland.

Also, I assume the title is a play on words and has as much to do with the killer's plans to get away with the crime as it does with a great place to vacation.

I think the studios did a pretty good job at getting the viral marketing side of it out really well.

I fuckin' love Riddick.

I hope this movie will make a decent amount of money so that Twohy will get enough support to go off and make his low budget Riddick threequel. That's the only reason why I'm even concerned about this movie, really.

The previews give me a Joyride feeling, only with less truck, highway, and Paul Walker.

SO ya, if you are at the theater, GI Joe and Funny People are sold out... and have your heart set on seeing a flick.. there are worse ways to kill time... but ultimately this is a DVD rental!

Also it really isnt too gory... a few scenes here and there... and NO tits.. a movie like this needs some sort of titty! Its got Milla Jovovich.. she shows her tits in everything!

but this flick has absolutely nothing in common witht hose flicks!

but i will say the flick has some pretty awesome shots, and there is a chase scene toward the end that was edited in a really awesome way!

There are certainly worse ways to kill time... but dont go in expecting something wholly original!

Count me in as another who loves Pitch Black and thought Chronicles of Riddick blew. I wasn't all that interested from the tv spots - looked like a Turistas (hated it)/The Ruins (dug most of it) clone but I didn't realize it was directed by Twohy until today. I just checked out the full trailer - and the cast is at least better than the Turistas cast. I probably won't see this in theatres but I'll probably check it out on DVD.

Hollywood turns another couples honeymoon/getaway upside down in the thriller,A Perfect Getaway.
A Perfect Getaway falls somewhere between screwed up vacation thrillers like Dead Calm and Turistas. If you listen closely you will figure out the culprit early on in the film.Director and writer David Twohy attempts to throw the audience off with red herrings in the form of three couples,Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovichas Cliff and Cydney,Chris Hemsworth and Marley Shelton as Kale and Cleo, and Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez,as Nick and Gina. They either act loopy,or look sinister throughout most of the film. They even throw in the local townie to try to throw the audience off.
But even if you figure everything out before the big revelation,Twohy is still able to keep things interesting with cool visuals, suspense, stabbings, and gunplay.
I actually would have like at least 10 minutes more of mayhem, everything was summed up all to quickly for me.TPG is definitely a rental, for a boring night Not a bad way to kill 98 minutes.

SPOILERS!

YAWN!

I'm a big fan of most of David Twohy's work so this movie was a MASSIVE disappointment!

First of all, this movie is slow as fuck! The trailers make this look like it's gonna be action packed but it has NO action whatsoever until the ending.

Second, this movie wants to surprise audiences and it seems to think it's SOOOO clever but it really isn't. Like at all. Even if the commercials didn't give away that there is a big twist coming it would still be predictable as hell because it's practically telegraphed VERY early in the movie with some of the dialogue that comes out of Olyphant's mouth. And because there are only so many characters in the movie, we are able to figure out what the twist is right away. It doesn't help either that there is absolutely NO sublety to the movie whatsoever and that pretty much EVERY characters in the movie act like they could be the killer except for the killers themselves of course. Unfortunately, the big reveal doesn't come until an hour into the movie. So therefore the movie is spinning it's wheels for the first hour and we're waiting impatiently for the twist to come.

Unfortunately, the movie doesn't get much better after the big reveal. We get this montage of flashbacks that is both boring and unnecessary. Then characters start acting pretty dumb and there are a bunch of boring chase scenes. The movie does manage to generate some minor tension and excitement during the last 10 minutes but by then it's too little too late.

Acting wise nobody really stands out. I like Olyphant when he makes his first appearence. But after awhile his character started to get on my nerves. The other three leads, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Lost's infamous Nikki, Kylie Sanchez, are okay I guess. But needless to say, they've all done better work before.

Ultimately, I just found this movie to be a complete waste of time. The best thing I can say about this movie is that it's beautifully photographed. The cinematography is pretty breathtaking at times. Unfortunately, that's the only noteworthy aspect of this dumb, pointless, predictable would be thriller.

The 90s pulp thriller runs strong in the veins of this film. It's just a shame that what pumps out is altogether rather less innovative than A Perfect Getaway believes itself to be.

It builds in a conventional but comfortable style through the setup act; I've seen this film before but the variation is enough to propel me through. It keeps itself lively with self-conscious references in the vein of Scream and the post-modern style of the late 90s - promising a wildly divergent second half and blatantly suggesting its own inherent superiority over other thrillers of its ilk by boldly referencing twists and turns in standard Hollywood fare. It's a harsh truth but it's got to be said - the ace up its sleeve isn't all that much of one. The promises that led me to tolerate the movie's god complex are not fulfilled; worse, the movie continues to wallow in its delusional superiority with a (ridiculously) long flashback sequence at the reveal that explains nothing the audience didn't already assume or know. It's the most useless flashback sequence since Da Vinci Code's laughably inane flashback revealing...Hanks and crew getting off an airplane into a car and the most self-congratulatory indulgence since Giamatti's slow clap in The Illusionist. The misdirection is also flawed when reviewing the earlier elements and the film will not make for a good repeat watch.

Still, watching these characters, mistrustful of each other, has a certain charm to it which probably comes from my attachment to the 90s thriller subgenre. The scenery is easy to look at and most of the actors bring a quirk to their performances that is usually missing with the generic teen-set packaged in these kinds of thrillers. Kiele Sanchez proves herself to be more island-smart than her untimely end on Lost would have one believe. And the third act, minus the aforementioned uselessness actually manages to thrill with its intensity as the film flips 180 degrees in its narrative and pace and characters break out of their conventions to each play significant roles in the action. But just as its ramp up is sudden and in contrast to the relative peace and quiet of the earlier two acts, the deflation comes too quickly. It's too little, too late.

5/10

THE TWIST (SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY)

Basically, the film flips - Zahn/Jovovich are actually the killers rather than the heroes. Olyphant and Sanchez are the heroes rather than the villains. Hemsworth and Shelton are just useless red herrings that actually make the film obvious much earlier.

Saw this the other day and it was pretty bad. There were a few good moments, but overall it was just far too predictable and the dialogue was way too overdone and very pretentious. Timothy Olyphant was also terrible, but his role was so poorly written that I really can't blame him. The twist was also blatantly obvious from the very beginning.

Has it's moments and I thought Zahn was really good here and Olyphant was good too, I don't get all the horrible talk for him. It would've been better if they just completely abandoned the twist and made the film like Kalifornia but set in Hawaii. The film is quite beautiful and David Twothy did a really good job 80% of the time. Towards the third act he made some weird choices that probably sounded cooler than they looked (The three way split screen of three people running was lame). I wish they would've used Marley Shelton more here as she looked reallyhot with the braids.

The lame ass twist really hurt this for me and was probably the most obvious twist since Secret Window. The predictiblity and slow pace of the first hour also harms this one

I caught this on Cinemax the other night and thought that, while immensely predictable in terms of the story, the actors saved it from being a total mess. Everyone was good, with the standouts being Steve Zahn and Timothy Olymphant. Whne the final acts came around, I wasn't aware on who was gonna die so that raised the suspense a bit, plus the subtle gory bits definitely hit the mark .

Overall, while nothing spectacular, very predictable and pretty average; I was never really bored and it had my attention to the end.
