I just saw G.I. Joe and although I did enjoy the film as a whole, what is up with Channing? He was terrible. He had the worst delivery when it comes to dialogue. Shit, take a lesson from Bale, if they don't believe you are a bad ass just force a raspy voice or anything. His words were so stale and at points it seemed like he even read off of cue cards.
I don't know how they made it past Day One of Production. I would've immediately halted production for recasting. If the studios got all pissy I would send them the dailies and within seconds I'm sure they would've approved it.

Ah man it's Tatum what did you expect? Best thing he's done and probably ever will do is a Guide to Recognizing your Saints. Just sit back, ignore whats bein said in G.I. Joe and admire the shit that's being blown up.

In a cast that included Dianne Weist, Robert Downey Jr, Shia Labeouf, Chazz Palminteri, Eric Roberts, and Rosario Dawson he gave the best performance in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.
I think it probably has more to do with being poorly directed and having your character be a barely-written stand in during scenes of explosions that lead to stale and wooden acting rather than the innate talent or lack thereof of the actor.
Case in point: Contrast Nicolas Cage in action blockbusters with Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, Weather Man, Adaptation, etc. If you're given nothing to do, you probably won't do it well.

If you got into a movie of this calibre expecting acting brilliance, you're putting yourself at a tremendous disservice. :D

Yes, he was definitely the worse part of the entire film. I've never liked his acting so I wasn't really surprised.

No surprise, he will probably end up acting his entire movie career in a generic dance movie.

His first scene where he was addressing his men was horrible and almost took me out of the movie. He did get a bit better and managed to not ruin the movie for me. He wasn't the only problem, Quaid wasn't up to par either.
I'm beginning to think it's Stephen Sommers. The acting in the Mummy movies wasn't all that spectacular either.
