Another new Alice in Chains song...it is godly. I'm freaking right now. This is my favorite band of all time, and I've DREAMED of this day. AIC's music has always meant a lot to me. It makes it that much sweeter that they have handled this "reunion" properly, unlike droves of other bands. I cannot fucking stand it. I need the new album. Now.

Sounds like a hybrid. I still hear Bones but I also hear elements of Jar Of Flies in there.

Interested, but would like the progression to be more...modern?

I'm still in love with Roosters, so bias is more on my part than anything else. That they could produce something as good TWICE!

I'll give it a few more listens.

Reigh & LS, have you heard "A Looking In View"? Thoughts?

I dug A Looking in View, but felt it was a bit lesser than most of their other material so I was hoping it would just be that song that I fend to be weaker than the rest of the album that all the AiC albums of the past have had for me.

Reigh, have you heard "A Looking In View"?

Listening now. Like the drums - heavy intro, interlude, heavy guitar.

Gimme a chance with the lyrics. Avoid responding to this comment: for a second I heard Nirvana's Milk It...

Alright, first impression: too long. Second impression: I can hear Layne.

This is a good thing. Which is odd, because it must mean that the thing throwing me off-kilter is Cantrell; he's definitely buzz-sawing the guitar more than I have heard before.

However, there is a heaviness which takes it back to the good old days and I find myself missing Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden and Mudhoney.

It is kinda old-fashioned in a new way, if that makes sense? Like the lack of progression has been replaced with nostalgia to make it work.

Maybe this makes no sense, but as comebacks go, I love it.

Perry, take note.

I agree completely. I'm hoping that this record saves mainstream rock in the states. I can't even listen to the radio anymore. I'll actually be upset if it doesn't sell well. Pearl Jam also has a record coming out, so maybe the planets have aligned.

Man had you told me 15 years ago that Staley would have died from a drug overdose I would not be surprised but if you told me he would be replaced by a black guy that sounds exactly like him I would be blown away. Nothing wrong with him being black or anything, I just had no idea until I checked out some pics of the guy.

The new song is really good. Too bad they wont come closer to where I live!!

Wait....what?!

Like you, I have no problem with it whatsoever...but Staley just has such a distinct voice....it's....nevermind.

No matter how it comes out it'll seem bad. But seriously though, you could tell me Staley never died and I'd believe you with this new guy.

Yea I have heard and enjoyed several metal/rock bands with black lead singers (Sevendust being one of the best bands out there now!) and that is not an issues but yea like you said it is just surprising. To be honest I did not think ANYONE would sound like him, I have heard dozens of covers from popular bands and lots of crapy wannabe bands and all of them failed at sounding like him.

Glad others like this song, the super down tuned guitars really caught my attention and it has a strong melody like the best of AIC. Jerry Cantrell still has it. It's all over alternative rock radio and seems to be taking off.

I liked "A Looking In View" at first but wasn't crazy about it but it's grown on me quite a bit.

I hope they find success with their new album and singer.

It has the underwritten, sludgy vibe of Alice In Chains (the 3-legged dog album) to me--then it busts through in the chorus to something more like Dirt. Nice tune, is stuck in my head, but I wish it didn't stay in the same place the whole time, very much like A Looking In View does as well--my favorite shit by them is all over the place melodically and tempo-wise. Just impossible to not compare this stuff to the old work, since it's so similar in many ways.

Still definitely makes me want to hear the entirety of this new album..I highly doubt it's going to be a big seller but it's going to give a lot of old fans a kick..

Is ANY album a big seller anymore???
I guest if you adjust for inflation and overall sales reductions due to technology.

This song has more color than most grunge(which has none) and I've always said that AIC were the most talented of the whole Seattle scene. Dirt is still their best work, of course.

The main tuned down riff in the song is too repetitive and compressed. It's not something I will buy; but hey if you grungeheads are busy listening to this, that's fine by me.

I've dug both songs, can't wait for the album, seems like they pulled it off!
