Directed by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor

Written by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor

Genre: Thriller

Plot Outline: When a virus threatens to wipe out humanity, Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), his brother Brian (Chris Pine), and their friends Bobby (Piper Perabo) and Kate (Emily VanCamp) set out across the southwestern desert in the hope of eluding the pandemic. Over the course of several days, the four friends learn that the darkness within themselves may prove deadlier than any microbe.

Rated PG-13 for violence, disturbing content and language.

Runtime: 85 minutes

I avoided watching the trailer for the longest time, because after hearing the title and looking at the poster it looked like another PG-13 horror crap fest. Then I read the plot outline and got semi-interested. Then I saw the trailer and thought it looked quite good. I've also heard some good things from test screenings.

It looks good but according to comingsoon.net it's only opening in a limited release. I hope I get to see it.

I'm mildly interested, the trailer has me somewhat intrigued, although it looks more like a made for tv mini series than a theatrical production.

Has shades of the old BBC series Survivors and that's a positive. Doesn't appear to be heavy on the zom action, more a post ap drama than action or horror.

Wait. is this the movie Chris Pine filmed before Star Trek made him big?

Yes, i think it was made in 07 or completed in 07 and has been collecting dust ever since. Obviously it's only seeing the light of a theater day because of the success of ST and Pine's starring role in it.

This is a PG-13 flick? Damn based on the trailers I would have never known. None the less, the movie looks solid so I'll check it out regardless of the disappointing rating.

Has their been ANY reviews for this thing yet?

There are actually two reviews currently at Rotten Tomatoes and they are both positive.

But they are not from a major critic. I want to know if any big critics have seen it yet.

It's actually playing in my local theater. The problem is that I don't have any money so I can't see it. I'm afraid by the time I get money in about a week and a half to two weeks, it'll probably be too late. :(

I watched it yesterday. Pretty solid little thriller and it was pretty depressing actually. Doesn't bitch out, that's for sure.

Watched it last week & was pleasantly surprised. Good story, interesting characters, decent acting. To be honest I was expecting something lamer - so glad I was wrong.

I though this was pretty bad, and likewise for Chris Pine in it.

I felt somewhat conflicted about this film (more because it had potential it squandered) but overall I'd give it a recommend. The story stands apart from most other pandemic-survival films in that it focuses on more realistic goals and problems for the characters (and it also doesn't utilize any "zombies" like you'd kind of expect). And the decisions the characters have to make sometimes are hard ones that I didn't really expect - it reminded me a little of Sunshine in the way it deals with some uncompromising situations (and Chris Pine's character in the first 2/3 of Carriers reminds me of Chris Evans in Sunshine). There were occasional moments where I thought the film was pretty masterful.

However, to get into these situations (and out), some of the characters make decisions that are shocking but not quite in-character (and by in-character, yes I'm suggesting that in most parts of the film, the characters are well-drawn enough for you to get a sense of when something is out of character). Also, there is the occasional person acting stupid for the sake of the driving the plot forward. These problems are unfortunately enough to drag the movie down significantly - it's no masterpiece. It's actually kind of frustrating cause if they gave the script another pass or two working on making the characters each more convincing, it could have been great. But it has enough intelligent moments and interesting ideas that it's worth watching.

In contrast to fooknasty, I actually found Pine to be quite good in this. You can tell why Abrams picked him to be in Star Trek - he has a hell of a screen presence.
