i searched and found no results for this... which is quite odd, you would think a new flick from Mike Judge would be discussed on these forums!
But anyway... i saw this flick tonight, and it was fucking hilarious... i highly recommend everyone check it out. Mike Judge has constantly provided the type of humor i love, the type that isnt just funny in the moment but funny for 5 minutes after you hear the joke!
i check the box office numbers and it appears it is going to be another bust for Judge, which is a damn shame, because his flicks are always great and this one is up there with the best comedies. Id say its even better than Hangover.
go check it out, support quality flicks!
and if by chance imissed some thread already on tis, please close this thread down with my sincerest apologies.

I don't really know much about the flick but I've enjoyed the man's work in the past. :)

This movie contains my favorite ensemble cast of the year. EVERYONE is great here. There is not a single weak link in the entire cast. The movie isn't quite as good as Office Space, but it's very funny. It's a little uneven and lags a bit in the middle but even at it's worst there is still the first-rate cast to carry the movie full.
Sucks that this movie is tanking. It deserves better. Hopefully this movie will find an audience on dvd just like Office Space did.

so fucking funny.
Ben Affleck was spot on, and everyone was wicked. I haven't laughed this hard since superbad.

My favourite bits were Jason Bateman's out of context hilarity. "Oh she was just a criminal drifter" or "I must have gotten caught up in the drugs and gigolos". The way he says these matter-of-factly in front of people who don't know the full context had me rolling.
Overall I thought it was uneven but each scene had its funny bits. David Koechner as the neighbour seemed like he should be Bill Lumbergh's cousin. The cast was great and the jokes were pretty good. It's a shame it's not doing better at the box office. I figured since they were name-dropping Office Space in all the trailers it would have finished top 3. But somehow All About Steve is a better draw. I really don't get it.

i guess it has to do with even on a movie forum... only 5 people seem to be interested in this flick! Damn Shame as this is pretty much the funniest comedy of the year.
and i love Judge's cameo in this flick... dude is just fucking hilarious.

Everyone keeps saying how Affleck is great but IMO he's actually my least favorite of the cast. I mean he was fine, don't get me wrong but much funnier to me was Bateman and J.K. Simmons and David Koechner. Those 3 were hilarious. I loved Mila Kunis's character. She was hilarious.

I'm seeing it soon. I would've seen it opening weekend but my girlfriend had surgery so we actually have to wait to see it because it hurts to laugh and she's a big Mike Judge fan. So I'll hopefully see it this weekend!

The intense stoner was very funny as well. I dont think I would ever want to get high with him though.
damn i ate this one up!
8 mabye even 9 out of 10!
great intellegent situational humour, and also a great satire, hilarious characters, just a good all around movie. not as great as Office Space, but close enough.
thumbs way up, man:D
i think David Koechner's character and the idiotic gigolo made me laugh the most.
When joel's wife was cutting it off with him and it kept playing that sappy music everytime he spoke i was in stitches.:D

Really?
This is the prototypical example of a film's trailer being FAR better than the film itself. In fact, if you've seen the trailer, don't bother watching the movie at all. It deserves no more of a person’s time than a CliffsNotes, abbreviated recap. The entire running time feels like a failed pilot episode to what would make a bad sit-com. Barely a chuckle in sight, nothing particularly funny or rememberable at all with even Mila Kunis' amazing beauty wasted and held in check. The most unremarkable film of the year that really can't even be labeled as a comedy.

I hope you're wrong because I thought the trailer was terrible and I still want to see this because of Affleck and Judge's involvement.

Okay, I'm the minority on this blog post for sure because I DID NOT like this movie.
Who knows? Maybe I was having a bad day. But the writing felt awfully lazy for a guy who wowed me with Office Space. I didn't care at all for Jason Bateman's character. And Mila Kunis as you average Hollywood wannabe user type who doesn't deserve sympathy then actually asks for sympathy from the audience at one point kinda insulted me.
I did laugh at times, so it wasn't a total loss and I thought Ben Affleck was entertaining. Kristen Wiig - again, didn't deserve the arc she got but I liked her playing her energy down for a change.
Overall - no where near as funny as I thought it would be and not nearly as original and satircal as some of the other reviews seem to think it is.

nice... i love it when my old threads get bumped!
Which is made even better by the fact that i re-watched this tonight!
I still find the flick to be fucking hilarious, the comedy lies in the writing, just great lines, plus the acting was an excellent compliment to the writing.
Still love the flick... hope Judge continues making bad ass flicks, one day one of them will be a hug hit!

I thought the film was hilarious. It had a great cast so I knew it would be. Mila was spot on in this film, she's definitely becoming one of my favorite actresses. I like to watch Jason Bateman in pretty much anything he does. Same with J.K. Simmons, which had me laughing every time he was on the screen.

Mike Judge's one and only greatest achievement so far is Office Space, both Idiocracy and Extract just didn't do it for me. Extract got very few (and in between) chuckles out of me and that was about it. But those are just my thoughts. Office Space will always be a winner, he'll unlikely ever top that as far as the laughter factor goes.

The great thing about Mike Judge is that he seems to gets that his movies are not going to have a huge instant return at the box offices. He gets that his films gain fan following through word-of-mouth and DVD sales/rentals.
It all started with Office Space. People didn't see it coming but when most of us who have been in that work environment saw it, it struck a nerve with us. We could relate to it. He took a character that put up with a dull miserable life and gave him permission to basically say "screw it". This has been the case for most of his characters since which is what I love about them.
Extract had a great cast. I am a huge fan of J.K. Simmons as the boss who doesn't care to learn employee names. Ben Affleck was great as basically himself turned up. Clifton Collins Jr. is not going to be a name easily remembered (he was Step, the floor manager who lost his nut), but is easily one of my favorite characters, and slowly one of my favorite actors. David Koechner was the perfect c-blocker. I am going to make myself a target by saying Mila Kundis was luke-warm water for me. She didn't really impress or depress me, she just kind of phoned it in. Another thing that will draw a target on me is that I thought Kristen Wiig was great in this movie (I have to admit I am developing a fan-boy crush on her which started on SNL and followed to Whip It.) I hope Judge does not let box office returns deter him from making these fun films.

From my one viewing of the film, I didn't find it all that great. I suppose it could become an eventual cult favorite, but I don't really see it.

I liked this a lot and I agree that everyone was great here. Even Kristen Wiig who I normally can't stand did good as she basically played it straight and came off better for it. No weird noises or mumbling, just playing a semi-realistic character. It still doesn't make up for Gilly though. I was surprised at how little Mila Kunis was in the film, based on the trailer, I figured she would have a bunch of screentime. She was probably the only weak link in the cast. She was just kind of there despite looking gorgeous. J.K. Simmons, David Koechner, and the guy that played Brad the gigolo were the standouts for me. Bateman was great too as he mixed in heart with the comedy. Affleck was solid as well, but the character he was playing is kind of passe'. It's pretty much a toned down version of the Dante character from Grandma's Boy. Gene Simmons was surprisingly great here as well as a sleazy lawyer with a crappy haircut. The grindcore guy was another fun character, that I wish got a little more screentime.

I thought it was pretty good, but nothing too special. I didn't find too many scenes hilarious, and it never really lifted off for me. I do love Jason Bateman though, and Clifton Collins Jr. was good as well... actually the whole cast did pretty well. I just didn't much care for the plot.

Watched this last night. I thought it was pretty good. Not the greatest comedy, but still pretty good. I would hold this right under 'Office Space,' although it didn't feature as many laughs. Jason Bateman is awesome as always, but I couldn't help but envision him as Micheal Bluth throughout the entire flick. Mila Kunis didn't do a damn thing for me except look gorgeous. Her character wasn't funny at all, and just seemed almost useless to me. Mike Judge's cameo was awesome too....as for a while there at first glance, I thought it was Rob Schnieder (ugh). J.K. Simmons was great as per usual ("Dingus"). I totally forgot Gene Simmons was in this movie ("I'll drop this case if you take your balls and let me SLAM THEM INTO THIS DOOR!").
Overall, a solid comedy that's worth owning.

While I think Office Space is one of the finest comedies of all time....
Extract was a dud. It's not bad by any means, just doesn't pack any pizazz.
The problem for me, was the script. You have a beautiful buildup of events that send Bateman's character spiraling out of control...his wife is cheating on him, his company is on the verge of being sued for millions, Mila Kunis is conning everyone in sight...
And then it ends in a peaceful, boring, ALL TOO EASY resolution.
6/10.
