View Full Version : People of Netflix Don't Dig My Reviews

Does anybody else write reviews on Netflix every once in awhile?

I only contribute one every once in awhile if I really want to speak up about something. While my "friends" on the website almost always punch "agree" on my reviews, it seems like anybody else who reads my reviews punches "disagree."

Now, I don't want to stomp on toes because everyone has an opinion, but I really don't think everyone on Netflix reads the actual content in some of the reviews. I think I'm very reasonable and rather insightful in my rather condensed write-ups, but I picture Rob Zombie fanboys flipping through the pages on Netflix and crucifying anyone who disagrees with them. Obviously, this post stems from my recent shock at so many people disagreeing with me on the quality on Halloween II. What's funny is that two of the three reviews highest favored on the Halloween II page, if you check it out, are very positive. Additionally, if you check out most movies on Netflix, highest approved reviews are all around 4 or 5 stars on the front page. It's as if nobody on Netflix believes in "bad" or "mediocre" movies.

If the film is bombing and suffering from mostly universal bad reviews, then why are the Netflix public mostly positive towards Halloween II? If the point to this thread is somehow lost to you, then I apologize. I just really wish there was a "Respond to Review" button or something on Netflix that way people could tell me why they disagreed with what I had to say. The last time I wrote a review prior to Halloween II was Quantum of Solace and that review was heavily disagreed upon as well (by nearly 70% of the readers).

Anyway, short story long, I don't think I'm going to write for Netflix anymore. There's only so much given space for the tiny reviews they allow you to write anyway, but I also feel it's pointless to spend time writing up something thoughtful and only have 20-30% of people agree on it while someone else simply writes "This film RocX!" and receive 75% approval. I'd rather write reviews here on JoBlo and be allowed to discuss them with reasonable people.

Has anybody else suffered from this problem or am I alone in my frustration?

Yeah, I've noticed that on Netflix and IMDb, I think the "helpful" thing is a bunch of horseshit, though I use it the way it should be - to say whether the review gave me an idea of what to expect. I don't look at rather the reviewer liked it or didn't, just what information they give without spoiling. I recently "disliked" a review because the reviewer used the review as a chance to talk about something unrelated and nothing else that had anything to do with anyone else. Likewise though, if someone is marked down, and I feel their review was good, I back them up.

But yeah, without having written any reviews I've pretty much gotten that it's all about whether or not people like the same movies or not, and just thumb down the reviews that disagree with their tastes. That's not about being helpful. I think it's a stupid system and don't understand the point of it. On YouTube comments it makes more sense - but their videos suffer from the same thing. Someone could post a really good video that shows a tragic event, and people will rate it low because they don't like the event, whereas they should rate it based on how well the video captured what happened (you know what I mean? did that make sense? it was hard to explain sort of)

Actually, I've seen a shit-ton of 1 star and 2 star rated films on Netflix as well as matching reviews.

I agree that most of the people who write reviews on that site are a little retarded, but I think you'll just have to accept the fact that people just plain don't agree with your opinion in this case.

I love the reviews that say "This is the wrong disc! This only has the special features on it!" or "This disc was so scratched I couldnt play it"

Or something else completely idiotic and not worthy of a review.
