Let's talk about it. The three tunes I've heard are...okay. I was hoping they would return to a hard grunge style, but they're stuck in the garage. Unlike most fans, I like all of the Matt Cameron albums. The self-titled release (a.k.a. Avocado) made me very happy.

I've heard a few cuts off the album, including "The Fixer" and I don't think they're terrible. Pearl Jam is actually my favorite band. I think what they've put out is actually good compared to what they could be doing. It's not entirely a mainstream sound necessarily, but it's not what it used to be. The thing is that Eddie has been going in a different direction for a bit, and as the band evolves I didn't think they'd stay too heavy throughout their career. The good thing is that the content is still good, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss what used to be. I'm someone who is really insanely nostalgic for the nineties. Honestly, I'm stuck in the alternative/grunge part of the nineties. I wasn't too impressed myself with the self titled album but you've got to have a dud here and there, it's almost just a natural part of it. When you have consistently shitty albums is when you have a real problem.

Pearl Jam is by far my fave band of all time. The only 2 tats I have are theirs. A logo from "alive" on my back and a lyric from the song "present tense" on my arm. I've enjoyed all the cd's from PJ. The last one was the only 1 I can say was just pretty good. The rest are great. This new one kinda sounds like the last 1 in terms of style. If they put out a cd like "no code" again i would die. Unlike most PJ fans "no code" is by far my fave cd of all time. but with that said, I cant wait for this to come out.

No Code, eh? I need to revisit that one. I hated it upon the first listen, but then again, I was a teenager at the time.
Post your three favorite PJ tunes.
"Rearview Mirror"
"Yellow Ledbetter"
"State of Love and Trust"
And post a lesser-known song that rules your universe.
"Cropduster" (the first half of Riot Act is flawless)

no way I can only choose 3.
yellow ledbetter
black
present tense
sometimes
thumbin my way
come back
garden
love boat captin
those 8 are the ones i listen to weekly, but all of their songs are great to me.
and yeah, do check out no code again. At first its a bit much and very different, but with time it seems like their bravest most personal work.

No Code is the only Pearl Jam album I still play. Defintely they're most interesting and adventurous album. Great overall album. Too bad nobody got it at the time.

So backspacer is pretty damn good. Not sure where it ranks yet in PJ's catalog.
"Amongst the waves" is a prefect song.

I was a bit disappointed by this one. After the sheer awesomeness of 'Avocado', I think I set my expectations too high. Most of the songs are...okay, but no where near their best; also, most of the songs (Johnny Guitar, I'm looking at you!) are much, MUCH better live.
PJ still rules all, though. And Unthought Known is amazing.
Favorite PJ tracks (top 5):
Dead Man
Yellow Ledbetter
Given to Fly
Thin Air
Off He Goes
Lesser Known Fave:
In Hiding

It's official; I'm not crazy about Backspacer. It's too short (where is the jamming?) and too polished.

The jamming happens in concerts. Their bootleg/live cd's are always better.
