View Full Version : What? Does He Get Punched, Get Drunk and Fall in Love?

I hate my fucking cousins. Between the 20 year old that gets 'drunk' off of Mountain Dew, the 22 year old who thinks he's the parent and is the epitome of a stereotype- all the way down to the 11 year old who owns a cell phone with the most snarky attitude, and is an absolute brat.

So there's the set up. This summer at the beach, I brought about 12 dvd's, cause I hate the beach. So I spent most of my days at the pool or at the boardwalk, biking or whatever. I'd watch 2 movies at night, usually. Anyway, my 11 year old cousin is at the place we're staying and I'm like, "Dad, let's watch Punch-Drunk Love. I've been wanting to rewatch it". He hasn't seen it, and I want him to- but my cousin starts with the attitude. He says:

What's this even about? He gets punched, gets drunk and falls in love?

At this point I just want to punch him in the face. So I say "No, it's a really good movie. You might like it". I'd like to expose him to good films at an early age. (Content is questionable I guess, but he's told me numerous times about watching Porn on HBO, so fuck it.) So we decide on PDL, and he starts pouting and asks me to drive him back to his hotel (His family was staying there). I say no, and he cries. He damn cries! My dad tells me we'll watch it another night, so we agree on Chumscrubber. Haha, I vouched it was suitable for him, forgetting about all the drug use and language and violence. It probably wasn't.

Wow, this was such a long rant. Thanks to anyone who read it. My point being that it angers me how close minded people are. I guess he has an excuse for being 11, but he could at least be respectful.

fuck it, yo.

Dude, he's eleven. I'm not saying it's impossible for an eleven-year-old to ever have good taste in film but...Well, I don't know how to finish that sentence.

I wouldn't expect a kid to enjoy Punch-Drunk Love. I'm 24 and I didn't enjoy it. Yeah, I said it.

Like Tweek said, I wouldn't expect an 11-year-old kid to like Punch-Drunk Love. Hell, I know people, all of whom are adults, who despise the film. Expecting a kid to like PDL is pushing it. It's not for everyone -- actually, I don't think any of Paul Thomas Anderson's films are for everyone.

Next time you hang out with your cousin for a movie night, put on There Will Be Blood. I've heard 11-year-olds fucking dig that film! ;)

Still though, what a little bitch for crying about it.

Its not that he didn't like it, or wouldn't want to watch it, it was that he was just being a little bitch.

We're watching all seven hours of Sátántangó, you little brat, stop crying!

Easy remedy- when you have to watch 'his movies', crack wise about them, see how he likes it.

That reminds me of the time I punished my 8 year old nephew by making him watch Casablanca with the Roger Ebert commentary with me.

Make him watch it, and then he'll be doomed to a life of phone sex and a room full of pudding. That's love!

Well, I can't stand PDL, so I'm with your cousin.

Chubscruber is much better for an eleven year old anyway.

I love Punch Drunk Love. But try punishing him with The Assassination of Jesse James or The Thin Red Line. :D

He has a snarky attitude, his idea of culture is Porn on HBO and he cries like a baby when things don't go his way--your cousin is on the way to becoming the average Western male.

Keep trying to stop that from happening, you never know. :p

and another point:
you have a guest over to your place, why not choose something you know that everyone would like? whenever i have company over, i don't throw on whatever the hell i want and expect everyone to sit there and love every second of it. i ask my guests if there is something from my selection that they would like to watch, its just common courtesy. its not like you don't own PDL and can watch it whenever you want anyway...

Every one else was interested in watching it. Myself, my brother, my dad, and my other cousin. It wasn't like he had seen it and had a vendetta against it, either. He knew nothing of it and just had a snarky, asshole attitude towards it.

I've realized that I have fuckin idiots who are in my circle of friends and family. I keep movies like Punch Drunk Love away from them. I let them watch Role Models and Gamer.
