Director: Dominic Sena
Screenplay: John and Erich Hoeber.

I was kinda looking forward to this, then I learned this film has been in the can for almost 2 years. Cue: ominous music.

I'm looking forward to it even though I was underwhelmed by the trailer. Hopefully it'll be a cool little thriller.

Wow, no traffic on this thread. Come on guys, this is a Greg Rucka story. He does great detective stories, especially with female leads. I really want this to be good.

Bleh. Looks really mediocre and the reviews have been REALLY bad. I'll definitely be skipping this one.

OUCH. 4%. Shame. I was really looking forward to it (I love Kate Beckinsale). Looks like it'll be a Netflix-er.

^^^ I know the answer to it but won't say in case people want to leave it be as a mystery.

Although isn't this an adaptation of a graphic novel? I suppose people who have read the graphic novel would know.

I thought this was an attempt to remake the Thing but with a woman as the hero

I don't know if this is considered a spoiler or not so let this be the warning.

It's not The Thing. From what the reviews I read it's just your typical whodunit set in Antartica.

First movie I have walked out of this year.

I would stongly advise you to reconsider your movie selection if you absolutely, positively think you have to watch this.

You don't.

Really, really, really, really bad.

I've a bottle of half used White-Out that's been lying around here somewhere, for years.
Since buying my first laptop I haven't had any use for it since all my typng is now done on the ol' computer now. But there's a certain feeling of secure comfort just knowing that it's still around.

This movie deserves to find an audience. It's too bad it's being completely ignored.

I really enjoyed this movie. The Antartica setting really added to this movie. Gives the movie a unique feel. The cinematography is breathtaking. This is one gorgeous looking movie. As a muder/mystery I was intrigued and absorbed into the story. Kate Beckinsale is pretty good in the lead. I also liked Tom Skerritt's performance. The rest of the acting is serviceable though Gabriel Macht is REALLY flat in his first scene. Fortunately, he does improve as the movie progresses.

The other thing I really liked about the ending was the ending. Not in terms of the identity of the killer. The twist at the end in terms of who is involved is fairly predictable. But what I liked is how low key the ending is. It doesn't end with a big action scene like you would expect. Some might consider this to be anticlimatic. But I thought it was somewhat refreshing. And I found it to be very satisfying.

And the last shot in the movie is absolutely gorgeous. The movie isn't perfect. Some of the CGI in the begining of the movie is pretty bad. But as a whole I found the story interesting and the movie to be satisfying. And again, I can't say enough about the look of the movie and the setting. Great production design too.

7/10

I really enjoyed Whiteout. There are a lot worse movies out there.

Yes, another 7/10 from me. But that's based on the first impression after seeing it. I think it says a lot about a movie when you have to see the poster to remember for sure that you've seen the movie, and that's exactly what happened to me. Meaning it didn't make much of an impact on me.
