Without a shadow of a doubt this is the best of the slashers I've seen this year, and there's been some pretty good ones. 10/10

Seeing this tomorrow.

How was the mise-en-scene?

The mise-en-scene is wonderful. There's some great stuff in here, like the opening shot or the bubble-filled backyard. Mostly though the films shot more hand held.

This movie lost my money for a ticket after the whole "prank gone wrong" aspect in the trailer, which just seems laughable to me.

10/10? Wow, better than Halloween 2 for you, huh.

Did any of the sorority girls get nekkid?

How much tits and ass do I get to see?

If I recall there was a decent amount of bare tits and ass in this picture. There's even more non-bare tits and ass in bikinis and other revealing wear. :D It definitely delivers in this department. Surprisingly, though? I don't remember if there was actually any sex scenes. Just lots of half-naked people making out on couches and shit. Then again, I don't remember there being one in The Final Destination but everyone insists there was, so who knows.

Didn't Whiteout come out this weekend?

I was hoping so. I wanted a horror double-bill, but my local isn't showing it and nobody seems to have heard of it.

Maybe they aren't showing it at your theater. It has been shelved for over 2 years.

Jamie Chung is beautiful. When I saw her on The Real World years ago she was my favorite one in the house. With any luck We'll get to see her do more movies in the future. Hopefully not direct to dvd crap.

I might see this movie over the weekend. We shall see.

This movie was utter garbage. I thought Halloween 2 was gonna be the bad slasher film of the summer, but Sorority Row takes the cake. It's continuous plot holes really leave a "wtf" feeling as soon as they continually rise. The twist was pretty obvious after viewing the first 15 minutes. Only good part were the 3 out of 6 girls that actually looked good.

The direction is the only thing that makes this film mildly interesting.... it's terrible... just terrible.

www.peopleofifrit.net <--- Blog post review... I tried to be nice  cause I've been chatting with the director on twitter :D

Yeah, a record for me. I walked out of Whiteout, then walked out of, then walked back in to, and then back out of Sorority Row.

That's a special achievement, and something I have never done in my life until now.

Atrocious.

I ended up watching Away We Go and rewatching (500) Days of Summer.

Good. Boosting good flicks, and dumping the shit flicks.

Sorority Row - 5/10

When? When is this streak of crappy American horror films going to end? When will these horror filmmakers realize that the Scream era is over and that the style of those films only worked a few times with films outside of that series? When will they realize that filling a film full of horrible cliches, dreadful acting and boring kills isn't going to get you anywhere? It may occasionally bring in some decent results at the box-office (though this movie obviously tanked), but where has the desire to create high quality American horror films gone? I can think of very few great American horror films of late. The Mist and Drag Me to Hell come to mind, but other than that, not a whole lot. Sorority Row is just another addition to the crap list of recent American horror films, and although it's certainly better than the unbearably bad The Final Destination, it's still pretty bad. There are some promising moments, but as a whole it's just a stupid film. Cliche after cliche after cliche. Terrible acting, one dimensional characters, characters that are forgotten for no reason and plot twists that make absolutely no sense. They're not hard twists to understand, but within the context of the film and characters they are just stupid. The majority of the characters are unlikeable, so when they die there's no emotion or sympathy whatsoever. When characters die in horror films I want to feel sympathy for them. I want some sort of emotional attachment so when they are killed it means something other than just "NICE KILL!". There is nothing remotely new or original about this film. There are some decent one-liners, but nothing compared to the Scream films or I Know What You Did Last Summer. There's not really much more to say. It wasn't a good film and it wasn't much different than any of the other crap horror films of late.

A decent, entertaining slasher and nothing more. I hope its extremely weak box office doesn't hurt the chances of seeing more R-rated horror in theaters.

I don't think it will. Friday the 13th, My Bloody Valentine and The Final Destination were all hard R and did just fine at the box office. If anything, the box office failure of this film and the underperforming of Halloween will most likely lead to more 3D horror, as 3D seems to have worked it's charm this year as far as horror flicks go.

I'm going to go ahead and say that a foulmouthed shotgun-toting Carrie Fisher blowing holes in the pantry walls makes this movie worth watching, albeit only in the context of a late-night rental with guy friends.

This script was clearly penned ten years ago, so why it wasn't made then and why it isn't going straight to DVD now is beyond me. Everything about it smacks of the late 90s to such a degree that I expected Limp Bizkit to show up on the soundtrack.

Given that this is a movie marketed pretty much exclusively on the sex appeal of it's cadre of female leads, the nudity is dissapointingly scarce (not a one of the principles bares it all, despite gratuitous sex and shower scenes. You'd think with so many roles they'd have found someone other than the extras willing to drag our attention back to the screen), and the kills, while decent, are largely unimaginative and roundly outdone by even HALLOWEEN 2.

I mean, it's not horrible. The girls are competent enough actors not to be emberassing, and I even kind of liked Leah Pipes as the movie's Queen Bitch. But it's the definition of superfluous horror and a bad indicator of how stagnant the slasher genre is (and maybe always was).

I realize it's utter foolishness to try to examine plot holes in a flick like this, but there's one that I really can't let go...

***MINOR SPOILERS!!!***

That chick in the shower? How did that work? This scene implies that the killer lurks around the bathroom eavesdropping on the character's conversations despite there being no obvious reason to do so beforehand, and then realizes that there is another girl in the shower stall (despite the fact that no one else does), and then has the good fortune for the very large communal shower room to be otherwise deserted long enough to do her in.

The killer then leaves the bathroom, still conspicuously disguised and carrying a bloody weapon without anyone noticing, posing the question of how s/he even got in there in that getup in the first place. And since that body is never found and the missing girl never mentioned, I guess the killer took the corpse along too. And apparently also took the time to clean the shower so that no one came along and found blood and brains all over the tile.

I thought the movie was pretty good. It's a throwback to old school slasher flicks. And I like those. Unfortunately, who the killer ends up being and what his/her motivation ends up being is retarded.

I enjoyed it.. Funny thing is, I was disappointed with A LOT in this film. There was a ton of potential for something awesome (for a slasher film). It was a major throwback to old slashers and so was kind of the same old plot rehashed, but I liked that about it.

I guess my problem came in that I found myself disappointed numerous times throughout the film. Lots of things tugged at my short ones and made me roll my eyes. Yet, I still enjoyed it when all was said and done. Maybe that's because of my love of the classic "killer murdering hot sorority girls" plotline, or maybe they just did a lot of things well.

Either way, i had fun with it and it could have been WAYYYY worse.

SPOILERS

I agree that the killer was really weak. Yes, it went with the whole "we HAVE to do this to protect our future" theme of the movie, but still. That just made him seem that much less intimidating and scary. He couldn't have been having an affair with Megan or something? Just something to make the killer's motive more about revenge rather than just covering his girlfriend's tracks? I don't know. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Not very horror-movie-esque...

Oh, and why didn't we get to see the hot Asian girl's tits?! Grrr, it's a horror movie! Instead we get to see a bunch of not-so-hot girls naked instead. Were they friends of the director or something? They could have cast those minor parts wayyyy better. Oy.

END OF SPOILERS

As a movie, 5.5/10

As a horror movie 6.9/10

Gonna see this Sunday night. Horror / Suspense films are usually a must see when they come to town.- Though "Drag me to Hell" never made it here?! There were too many hold over weeks of the kid animation films back in May & June this summer...

As a fan of old 70/80s slashers I have a slight interest in it, but as a fear of it being like a shitty STV of a Scream/IKWYDLS rip-off I am cautious.

Exactly what I was going to say. It was entertaining, though it wasn't a good movie by any means. Still, I'd recommend it. I had fun.
