Does anyone here have a blog? If so, share! I just started one that I'm very happy with. It would be super rad if you checked it out or "followed" me. We can all "follow" each other.

Started this last week as a hub for my various horror-related writings. I'm in the midst of a movie-a-day marathon for all of October that I'm chronicling there, as well.

I just added my new podcast to my blog, me and TerrorAustralis pretty much talk the shit with the worst remakes. Good fun I must say!

I think that's the case with all standard blogger templates. I use a custom, because it looks better and allows me to use larger pictures.

Just writing this week's Movie of the week post, another horror double for Halloween, look for it soon.

Yeah the template I settled on has it all there, but I like the way I have it set up. It allows me enough room for my posts and then all my side columns :) believe me it took forever to finally decide on a layout and stuff hehe

Oh nice, I'll keep an eye out for that post!

My plan is to start an entertainment blog as soon as I've moved house (in just under 2 weeks time). We will have the Mac in one of the front rooms by then and it will be nice to work on a lovely, big computer all shiny and new. My boyfriend also tells me that I have an Apple e-mail account and some web space to boot...so it'll be fun getting to grips with it all (and neglecting my well worn laptop for a bit).

I plan on focusing of film, past and present...looking at favourite actors and directors on occasion. I'd also like to incorporate music reviews and maybe some small bits about fashion, food, art and books.

I've started constructing a few general posts and I'm hoping to develop my writing skills as the project expands and grows. Now I just have to think of a name and maybe get cracking on a wee bit of design.

I'm really enjoying what I've read of all yer blogs...

Count, loving your work so far...even though the review subjects aren't necessarily my usual 'cuppa', you have definitely captured my interest...and your posts are wordy without being overlong or meandering. There's a lot of substance there and tonnes of fun too. That Cherry Dr. P post is right on the fucking money. I'm not a big fan of that particular fizzy medicine but if it doesn't ALREADY taste intensely of cherry then my taste buds must be on the fritz too.

SAI, your writing style is great, it flows really well and the films you review and the subjects you discuss always interest me...it's incredibly comprehensive and well thought out. I also like your simple layout, colour scheme and - I think this is a hugely important one - the TITLE of your blog. Btw, have you reviewed any more MOH episodes because I couldn't find any? I would be intrigued to read your thoughts on Cigarette Burns, Jenifer and Imprint.

SuperMarcey...your blog has a real easygoing, playful vibe...the "Awesome film posters of the day" are all very well selected and retro-cool. My day is usually chockfull of baby nonsense and domestic drudgery (ha ha) so I have only listened to one of your podcasts...I enjoyed the banter and the subject matter and the laidback, friendly feel it had.

Hakari, God of War...I shall return with my insignificant opinion very soon...oh and I'm definitely going to start following all your blogs as soon as I get my new Mac e-mail set up and all that. Keep up the good work kids!

Thanks alot for that feedback, it is very much appreciated! I would have more on my blog (more reviews) but time has been so limited, but hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to get more on there. Thanks for checking out the podcast, glad to hear you liked it :D

First of all, thanks. It's always nice to hear that people are appreciating the site. The simple layout has really come about because I lack the skills to do anything else, but hey, it seems to work. I haven't blogged on any other MOH episodes (I really must get around to a weekly set of mini-reviews, so I can cover everything), but I'm probably going to pick uup the second S1 box when I'm in London on Friday (assuming it's still in CEX) so, hopefully, I'll have thoughts on Imprint and Jenifer for you soon.

By the way, look out for coverage of the London Film Festival starting on Saturday. I'm seeing 9 films this year including Enter the Void, Mother and Air Doll.

Cool. I'll check back every couple of days or so. There's loads of other reviews on there I'm interested in reading...I should really take the time to throw a few comments your way as well.

Hey you might want to pick up an extra large pillow for Imprint...for wincing purposes only. I thought Jenifer was great, but it made me feel slightly nauseous...and Cigarette Burns was possibly my favourite story of the lot.

I went through both seasons a while back and was pretty disappointed in the second. Season 1 had a lot of pretty good episodes, and while 2 had a great one or two, there were more that were really bleh.

Count, I like the content of your blog. It's well written and the subjects are nicely out of left field. I do find it a bit of a pain to read though. I'm not a big fan of your template - so much pink - but the real problem is that the type is (at least for me) absolutely miniscule. With my glasses I can read very small type, but I still have to squint to read your blog. So, for me, good content that could be better delivered. Just my two cents, man.

Also, I've updated my blog with my first two London Film Festival reviews, and later today I should have reviews of Dr Parnassus and Ong Bak 2 as well as another double bill Movie(s) of the week post.

SuperMarcey

Looking forward to the festival reviews.

Go to your 'layout' tab. There you will find tabs to pick a new template or change fonts and colours. You can also do a google search and find thousands of custom made templates.

I am after reading your post and visiting fellow schmoe blogs. It seems like a lot of fun, I'm just not sure where to begin. I also haven't even garnered up the courage to make an msn account yet. I'll look into this weekend (the blog thing, probably not msn) and try to come up with something. Thanks for the positive reinforcement, dude; my main concern upon making one would be that barely anybody would be interested. Most of my physical friends and family aren't concerned with movie reviews or (as with my parents/grandparents/aunts and uncles) don't even know how to use the internet. :o

If you write well, and develop something of an identity for your blog (as I hope I've been doing over the last 10 months) people will find your stuff. I haven't added a counter to my blog, but I know that a good few people read it, and that most who read it like it and visit on a relatively regular basis.

It really isn't hard, I've got almost no knowledge of computers and absoltuely no instinct for design. The most complicated thing I've had to do is discover one piece of html to make the clickable list of reviews in the sidebar of my blog work. Other than that all I've done is use the tools provided. Frankly, if you can post here you can make a reasonable looking blog.

BTW: Posted the second part of the complete Nightmare on Elm Street, but the writing wasn't really flowing today so the full length reviews of Triangle, Life During Wartime, Morphia and Katalin Varga will be posted tomorrow.

Due to the nature of my blog's content, I really need that system. Because later when I have a few thousand animations, or even now, it is very difficult to find stuff. And I do not want a search engine. I need a system whereby you can browse from A-Z

Anyone please?

Yeah, like when you click on a thumbnail image in my blog, it creates a new window to the full animation. But what I am after is when you click on the thumbnail, you get a small popup on the same page. And you can edit it as well. Have you seen those? I have searched and so far been unsuccessful. If I could find an example, I'd show ya.

I've been toying with the idea for some time, and have finally got around to starting a music 'blog, mainly as a way of forcing myself to listen to more of my albums. There's only an introduction just now, but I'll be adding stuff in the sidebar (links and other bits and bobs) and the first review (of Annie's much delayed new record, Don't Stop) will be up tomorrow.

You'll fiind the blog here An Album a Day (http://album-day.blogspot.com/). Comments and ideas are welcome, either on the blog or here. Cheers.

PS: Ideas for a pithy little line to go under the title would be most welcome.

Updates, updates

At 24FPS (http://24framez.blogspot.com/), largely to force myself to review more older films, I've intiated the idea of themed weeks. I've started off with James Bond Week. Licence to Kill was reveiwed today, with more to come every day until Sunday.

Recent album reviews at An Album A Day (http://album-day.blogspot.com/) include records by The Dead Weather, Royksopp, Neil Young, Fever Ray and Elbow. Tomorrow's album is by Pretty Girls Make Graves.

Have a look at the new stuff and leave me some comments here or at the blogs. Ta.

That's mine. I just started. Give me a chance.

On the plus side: I really like the title of the blog. The template is simple and tidy, and the type is easy to read. You've got an interesting angle on the film (a chick flick? I didn't think so). Also, that Doves record is, indeed, ace.

Downside: Your embedded vid is too big for your template, whiich makes the blog look messy right from the word go, and obscures what you've got in the sidebar into the bargain. YT does offer a variety of embed sizes, pick one to fit your blog or just use a text link.

I get the impression you've written this first entry rather quickly, and possibly right into the blog, rather than in a word processing programme. I like the ideas you've got here, but a phrase like
"Being a being of the opposite target of these films..."
is confusing, I get what you are saying there, but it's pretty poorly phrased, and reads like there are words missing. (I'm by no means perfect on this score, I'm forever finding errors in entries that I missed when first posting).

This looks a little thrown together overall, but spend some time and I reckon you'll have something pretty good.

Hope that wasn't too harsh.

Speaking of blog entries, I often have problems copying and pasting from Word. For shorter entries, it's easier to type it directly into the blog. Word gives me Hell when it comes to formatting. I have to spend 20 minutes unfucking the damage (spacing, fonts, colors, etc.). Does anyone else have this problem?

SAI
11-23-2009, 05:43 PM
Well, luckily my new template does some formatting automatically; ranking up the type into even lines. I never format in word, I do all bolding and italicising after pasting into the blog tool. Never had a problem with doing that at all (though, irritatingly, it can mean that I miss the odd word that should be bolded, so I have to make corrections) but I've never had to 'unfuck' formatting.

Dude, use notepad only. Type up all of your shit, then copy n paste it into your new post entry in your blog. Then preview it first before publishing it. If you need bolding out/italicing of text. Then do that in your blog publishing box afterwards. Use the compose mode for that. It's alot easier.

You don't need any html code for placing a banner in there, Tweek.

Dashboard > Layout > Edit (header) > Add Image (Instead of title and description) or with (Instead of title and description) Your choice.

Banner image should be by default what's in that box. No bigger or smaller. If you want to alter it completely, then you have to edit the actual HTML in the style sheet.

I love writing little daily blurbs, and I'd probably do it more often under a more structured scenario that I thought people might actually read.

What I'm saying is, if any of you with a more established, well-structured site could find a place for my brand of humor/insight, I'd jump at the chance.

Once again, this is the closest thing I have to a blog: www.annmargaretisntcoming.tumblr.com

It's scarce, but I think it provides an ample enough example of my writing style.

Hehehe, I haven't often gotten negative feedback on my actual opinion. I mean if I am not agreed with I'd like to know why aside from 'It sucks' and I don't mind the little jokes of who is right and who is wrong. Really no one is, we all have our opinions, such is life.

First off; Monotreme, great stuff as ever sir. You've got the knack for making your writing detailed and in depth, but also very readable, glad to see you blogging (because, frankly, a blogger that can write is a rare fucking thing).

As for me, couple of new things being tried at the site today. We've got Next Week, which is designed to be a catch all preview thread. It's got recommended cinema and DVD releases for the US and UK (though nothing at cinemas for the US this week, because frankly, there's nothing inspiring out) as well as a Movie Link of the Week (this week TONS of free, legal movies to watch) and a brief preview of next week at the blog.

and, on a whim as an attempt to get more people commenting, I've come up with a series called My First... about first time movie experiences; I share mine, commenters share theirs. First up: My First Movie Star Crush.

These are just ideas that have been worked out on the fly so guys I'd appreciate some feedback be it here or on the blog. Cheers.
