I wasn't sure where to post this. It has to do with sports, but I'm not sure if it's going to get into a political debate or not. Anyway.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was dropped from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the story on Wednesday.

Limbaugh was to be a limited partner in a group headed by St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts. Checketts said in a statement Wednesday that Limbaugh's participation had become a complication in the group's efforts and the bid will move forward without him.

Checketts told the Associated Press he will have no further comment on the bid process.

Three-quarters of the league's 32 owners would have had to approve any sale to Limbaugh and his group. Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay predicted that Limbaugh's potential bid would be met by significant opposition. Several players have also voiced their displeasure with Limbaugh's potential ownership position, and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith, who is black, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh's bid.

A Limbaugh spokesman told ESPN that Limbaugh would have no comment on Wednesday. Earlier, on his syndicated radio show, Limbaugh was defiant, holding on to hope that he still could be part of the ownership group that buys the Rams.

"This is not about the NFL, it's not about the St. Louis Rams, it's not about me," Limbaugh said. "This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.

"Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we're going to have."

Without Limbaugh, Checketts and his group will have to find another partner. At the NFL owners meetings this week in Boston, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell addressed Limbaugh's potential involvement in the league and said "divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about."

Goodell added: "I've said many times before, we're all held to a high standard here. I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL -- absolutely not."

In 2003, Limbaugh was forced to resign from ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown after saying of Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

The Rams had no comment, reissuing a statement from Oct. 5 in which owner Chip Rosenbloom said a review of the team's ownership was under way and the club will make an announcement when it's over.

Checketts, the chairman of SCP Worldwide, announced that Limbaugh had been dumped toward the end of a news release.

"It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis," Checketts said. "As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion."

The move was hailed by the Rev. Al Sharpton, one of the most vocal critics of Limbaugh's bid.

"It is a moral victory for all Americans -- especially the players that have been unfairly castigated by Rush Limbaugh," Sharpton said in a statement. "This decision will also uphold the unifying standards of major sports."

Information from The Associated Press is included in this report

And now it appears he believes it's because he's a conservative, and the country is trying to destroy the party. I say, he's a complete moron. NFL owners, and I believe owners in the other three major sports, have the right to approve or deny, any person or group ownership. It happened in baseball earlier this year. Mark Cuban wanted to buy the Chicago Cubs, but it was widely believed MLB wouldn't allow it, because of the way he acts at games. I don't know for fact, but I would think a portion of NFL owners are indeed Republicans.

I could have done without Al Sharpton getting involved, but I don't think that's possible.

I remember when he made the black quarterback remark. Very dumb of him. Beside that though, what has he done or said that was racially insensitive? I can't imagine that comment alone would exclude him from being an part owner. Don't just say there are plenty of them. I seriously want some more quotes that came from his mouth if there are any. Otherwise I'd say he's being denied this opportunity because he's an outspoken conservative.

The NFL is full of conservatives, especially the owners.

Here is some wonderful Rush quotes:

"I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."

"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."

"They're 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?"

"Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"

"Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"

"I mean, why didn't these morons leave New Orleans before the hurricane? I'll tell you why: because they wanted to rape and loot! That's just the way some people are! And if they're black - if the rapists and looters are black - it's not George Bush's fault! We've had these problems ever since the Emancipation Proclamation. Once the whites leave town, all you've got is overwhelming lawlessness. That's not racism, Mr. Snerdley; it's a proven, demonstrable fact. Have you even seen a ghetto in Greenwich, Connecticut? I rest my case."

Shall I go on?

Wow, I knew he was bad, but not that bad. I'm not sure if he's just dumb, hateful, or a troll. Wow.

Here's an article that might clear a couple of those quotes up. Never take Wikipedia for it's word. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tobyharnden/100013647/the-rush-limbaugh-media-lynch-mob/ People hate this guy so much that this is really no surprise.

Oh my.....

I see Rush is denying the first quote about the merits of slavery. He says it's fabricated and the author who printed it in his book got it off Wikipedia.

Don't want to sound like a supporter of Rush or anything, but due to my intellectual integrity I'd need to see some of those quotes in the context in which they were made, because a couple of them seem harmless. The take the bone out of your nose, and Jesse Jackson comment don't really bother me.

"Once the whites leave town, all you've got is overwhelming lawlessness." Now, that's just despicable.

I'm not asking for anyone to prove anything. I'll do the searching on my own.

This clears up a couple of those quotes. See, never trust Wikipedia.

I know from studying anthropology that many ancient civilizations used bones for jewelery, not just blacks. It could be him saying that their thinking is primitive.

The Jesse Jackson comment. You could say that about anyone of any skin color, not just a black person. He could be implying that he looks like a guilty criminal. Unless you think all composite sketches of criminals are black. You don't think that right?

Let's not stray and worry about what I think. I just showed a recent article saying Rush never said half of those quotes. Do we acknowledge now that they could have been fabricated or continue to spread it as truth? I guess it just depends how honest you are.

I have heard the audio on a lot of those...

I don't know/care if he's truly a racist, but the bottom line is he's polarizing and the league doesn't need him. It's the NFL, the most successful sports league in the US. Someone like him should never have even been entertained as a viable option to become a part owner of a franchise.

I think he's just doing this for publicity, and never thought he really stood a chance. He was on the Jay Leno show about a month back and I don't remember him mentioning anything about this, so I think it's odd he's just been so visible lately. I think it's very telling that every time they show a police composite of a kidnapper they look like Rush.

Sketches of pedophiles look like Rush as well.

I'm one of those that think all fat people look the same.

Maybe, but not this one.

From what I've read no one has. Same with the one I read where he commends the guy who assassinated Martin Luther King. If the guys so obviously racist why do people need to make shit up?

I wonder if the people who spread these false quotes even care. I doubt it.

You are correct, I didn't hear the audio for that one.

And not maybe.
