all i can say is i'm a huge MJ fan and i'm very excited to see this. it is very strange timing to give it a "pg" rating, but it's gonna be great to see "what could have been" from one of the most iconic figures in our culture.

This will probably be the first 200 million grossing concert film ever.

I think I will probably check this one out, except the soundtrack for this is more like a greatest hits cd with a song that was previously unreleased but not a new track (recorded in 1991). I am guessing they are gonna try to milk the hell out of MJ's catalogue before they release real new songs he had finished up for the long awaited new album before his tragic death. They will find ways to do it and I bet it will be expensive when the new songs finally are released.

and yet, everyone [especially kids] will probably be him for halloween. or at least variations of his old self from the 70's and 80's. real nose and all.

Has anybody heard the title track yet? It's actually pretty solid. His vocals sound so relaxed, good stuff. It was recorded as a piano piece, but they've added all the typical arrangements you'd expect. Thankfully it's not over the top. Let's hope they keep it up once they start Tupac-ing the shit out of his unreleased material.

I want to know what these scary images are all about.

I'm sure it has something to do with the Thriller segment. If I'm not mistaken, they filmed new stuff that was going to be used in the concert (in 3-D was one of the rumors), so it's probably that.

Not going to see it. I was never a big fan of MJ, and I don't see the need to see this.

Was this movie made after he died? Or was it still being planned while he was rehearsing for the London tour?

the "making of" dvd was already planned for christmas but they made this movie for a halloween release after he passed away to honor his memory and for everyone to see behind the scenes footage bunched together from a couple of months of filming of his tour on the big screen. i have a feeling this is gonna be huge.

even if you weren't a big MJ fan, i still highly recommend listening to "bad", "man in the mirror", "beat it" and a few others on youtube or itunes. or at least watch the iconic "thriller" music video.

Personally, I think the movie was made to capitalize on his fame and his death.

I'm familiar with his music and his music videos. I was just never infatuated with him, his music, or anything about him. "Thriller" is a very impressive music video - even to this day. "Man in the Mirror" is probably my favorite MJ song.

I believe he was a very troubled individual who hated his physical appearance, and who wanted to cling to an idea of a childhood he never had. There's no doubt he was the King of Pop, a talented musician, dancer, and performer. But the man had problems . . . in more ways than one.

Saw this today with the family.

A remarkable experience.

He wasn't at all the fragile, frail individual he'd been made out to be. He looked strong. He looked sharp. But what really got me was his generosity with his genius. First you see him undertaking his personal creative process (which is remarkable unto itself), and then you watch in awe as he draws that same potential out of all the people around him.

Really fantastic. You're basically watching one of the greatest artists who has ever lived working in his element.

You simply must see it.

Same thing happened with my dad.

My dad had never thought much of MJ, even though I'd been listening to his music since I was a kid. He said he went in thinking, "Ah, I'm just gonna go watch Jacko dance around for a couple of hours." But at the end of the film he got out of his seat, turned to me, and said, "That's the best thing I've ever seen at the cinema."

I was astonished. He was really moved by the whole thing.

And I find it interesting that both you and he were so moved by it, because I'm reading a lot of reviews that are saying they're not sure it'll connect with non-fans. If anything, I'm getting the feeling that it's connecting MORE with non-fans than fans. I think fans already had an idea of what they were in for. But it's those who aren't so into Michael Jackson who appear to be having the truly eye-opening revelation into why this man is so great.

Michael Jackson's This Is It - 6/10

What a concert that would have been. Michael looked like he was in pretty solid shape, which is really what's sad about the whole thing. He was really into it. Another sad thing is that all of those dancers, selected from thousands, never had the opportunity to do an actual concert with him. The film itself is pretty entertaining, well put together and features all of the classic Michael Jackson songs. The Thriller segment was really great. If you're a fan of Michael, or even a moderate fan, I'd recommend giving this a watch at some point either in the theatre or on DVD.
