Rumpelstiltskin

No one is talking about it. It is a British crime biopic, and definitely one of the grittiest, darkest and most maturely and hypnotically stylized of any such films. Above all, it is the most stylistically and sensorially commanding film that has come out this year, or maybe even last year, too.
It follows the self-described life of Michael Petersen, supposedly Britain's most expensive and most violent prisoner, evidently known for spending 30 years in solitary confinement. He's played by Tom Hardy, who's been in Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down, Star Trek Nemesis, The Reckoning, Marie Antoinette and also, as if this would be any surprise, Layer Cake and RocknRolla. He will also be in Nolan's Inception.
It begins with him introducing himself to the camera, claiming laconically that he always wanted to be famous, so he flaunts the calling he found. At this point, we cut to a him, naked, fighting several prison guards in a cage doused in deep crimson light and otherwise surrounding pitch black shadows.
