So how come HARRY KNOWLES gets to be a guest on the uber-cool talk-show with Craig Kilborn this Friday, and JoBlo just gets to stay home and pull the goalie for the umpteenth time this week...eh....eh?????

Phew...glad that I got that out of my system! /ubb/smile.gif

Of course, I kid the ol' Harester cause he gets to do cool things such as that, and my day has yet to come...sniff, sniff...

All that to say...check out the Craig Kilborn show this coming Friday and support the Internet Movie Invasion!!!!

I really dont get Harry Knowles success.
First off his page is a disorganized mess, second his reviews suck (comparing Battlefield Earth to a turd he took, describing how you take pictures of the turd...what the fuck?), third...well it's not like he's a pretty boy and last but not least: All he does is take scoops people send him and post em up. I'm sure the man knows his movies, I have no doubt about that but can someone please point to me what the hell is so special about the guy? Maybe Im missing something. In my book he hasn't earned the right to sit next to Ebert...but thats just my book...

ARE YOU PEOPLE BLIND! Harry Knowles is an idol amoung movie geeks. I mean I don't want to come off as a brainwashed band wagon follower but come on. He knows film, and mostly good film. He gets all the news as soon as it comes out, he's reviews tell us exactly what we want to hear. I do have to admit though he does get off subject somwetimes. One another note yes he has graphic descriptions and comparisions (i.e. The Turd Meets The Battlefield), that's why we like him though. He's one of us.

Well Nuke, I for one am a movie geek but I don't take pics of my turds...And for sure such descriptions is not what Im looking for in a review.

Another thing that pushed me on the anti Knowles bandwagon was his clumsy review of American Psycho. Comparing it to Tarantino flicks and missing the whole point of the movie.

I'm sure he's a great dude, that he knows his movies but his immense success still eludes me. It doesn't take a genius to post up scoops on a web page. Cause lets face it thats the only reason he's hot right now...the scoops he gets.

Anyways later

Arrow when did he ever post pictures of his turd?... Well anyway I personally like him because I enjoy reading his reviews. He hits all the points movie geeks wanna hear about. He's scoops are ok but thta'snot the whole reason I like him and his site. Go to the site and read his Blade review and you might possibly change your mind.

BUMP! I wanted to BUMP this because it was the FIRST ever thread in GMD!

LOL, Well then responding to this 3 year old thread, I think Knowles is one of the most annoying internet reviewers I can think of. (Yet I still go back to AICN for scoops from people, and reviews of shows like Alias and 24...but that's only cuz they have a different reviewer doing those, namely Herc)

I didn't think Knowles was too bad before, but after reading his review for Fellowship of the Ring, I just couldn't stand his stuff anymore, and each new reivew i read of his I found more and more disgusting.

His review for Fellowship was pretty much a 20 page worship of the movie...he grovels at Peter Jackson and Elijah Wood's feet pretty much during the entire review...it's quite sad really. And does anyone else think it suspicious that he goes all obsessive over a movie that starred a fellow cast member Elijah Wood (they starred together in The Faculty), and a director (Peter Jackson) that he corresponds with often? I think there is quite a bit of bias there in that review.

Not that I'm saying Fellowship is a bad movie...but the grovelling...disgusting.

Oh, and lets not forget the fact that most of his reviews go totally offtopic (and holy crap, does he ever mention the fact that he knows Peter Jackson like 50 times) talking about his old memories about something completely random...

I have to agree with The Arrow on this one...his site's just an absolute mess. JoBlo's Movie Emporium (not trying to suck up or anything, just being truthful) is a much, much better site for people to come together and talk movies. Plus, I tend to agree with JoBlo more than Harry Knowles.

JoBlo you are awesome, Harry Knowles doesn't deserve to get that type of attention, YOU should be on The Craig Kilborn show, you have a better website, your reviews are in depth and you dont ramble on like Knowles does, I have great respect for you, the only way Harry Knowles got big was from movie critics like Roger Ebert who introduced him to the business. And besides your original he on the other hand is not original!

I don't care if Knowles gets "scoops" first. That doesn't belay the fact that his site is the most disorganized, amateurish movie site I've ever had the misfortune of coming across. Moriarty or whatever his name is, in my opinion, is the only saving grace.

As for reviews: from what I've read of both, JoBlo has the better "everyman" reviews. Maybe it's just because I can relate better with someone who can write an informative and witty review rather than someone who uses pictures of his own stools as a metaphor to describe a movie.

Not to mention that nachos rule all ;)

TO me hes a critic whos fan boy obsessions control him more than being a fair critic (ex LOTR). Also I might add that apparently Peter Jackson offered him $1,000 for an original King Kong poster. I obviously can see why he never hated a Peter Jackson movie.

I only post here, but I do enjoy his site. I prefer not to just read one web-site at a time, although JoBlo is allways the first one I'll visit for the day, followed by CHUD, AICN, and then comingsoon.net :D, because well, i can't get enough movies.

JoBlo's site is by far the most organized and easiest to surf of all of those, but I love reading Harry's reviews sometimes because he just loves to write and write and write, and to be frank, I love the read the man rant about the thing that he loves even more then I do: movies.

Although I don't always agree with him, you can't help but like the guy for his enthusiasm. Sure he liked godzilla and Armageddon, thats nothing to hold against him...well yes, it kind of is, but the site is quite diverse, and I always enjoy checking the regular updates.

However the TalkBack is a bit of a mess now, there isn't even an order to it anymore in order to avoid flaming, which runs rampants on the site, whereas here at JoBlo, its a very open and welcoming community. Not once have I seen an individual bashed for his opinion (as long as its logical and informative, and not something along the lines of ShAtNeR iS GoD, w00t, etc etc). Its mainly for that reason, and the general effectiveness of this site that I choose JoBlo over all other sites.

Sure, Nick Nunziata has a fantastic sense of humour and CHUD can be a blast to read, but there are very few movie reviews there. AICN will constantly update uber-geek movies like Matrix and LOTR daily, so its a fun read, but between movie reviews, DVD reviews, and Horror reviews, its JoBlo for me. At least thats my opinion, and take it as you wish :) :) :D

I think his success contributes only to him doing the internet movie thing first. If joblo did it first, we'd be seeing our little Joblo on Craig Kilborn, and parodied on SNL. I'm sure he's a cool guy, but I hate how his reviews and posts are disorganized, off-topic, and that the Talkback thing he made is so bad now. You can't really tell who's who, you get insulted for your opinion, and is filled with spam. A big contrast to the peacefulness of this site

...but since our beloved JoBlo has given his competition thought, I just might have to visit his sight again. I must say, you'd think he would flourish in print and on the radio. He's just benefited because of the length of time he has survived. Which you must give him credit for...

I like this site better, because the people are nice. I tried reading some of the discussions over at AICN and it was just a bunch of young boys bashing eachother. I think that would get pretty boring quick.

JoBlo and DarkHorizons are my favorite movie sites.

Please tell me you're joking. I know Peter Jackson loves King Kong nearly as much as I do (he's already fleshing out a treatment for a faithful re-make), but I also know he'd have better resources at his aid to secure original Kong memorabilia than Ain't It Cool News. (Btw, in the collector's market an original King Kong poster from 1933 is worth way more than a mere $1,000 US...methinks either Jackson was taking his chances, or this story's just idle gossip.)

I try to visit AICN when I can, and I don't know what's up with Mr. Knowles' web server, but I get bumped out of a lot of his pages when I click on them. Sometimes my browser hangs, and I have to re-boot it. That never happens when I visit JoBlo/Arrow in the Head, and for that alone this site deserves major props. (Plus, the film reviews are much better. No pics of poo. So there you go.)

A thread from the dead.

I'm not a fan of AICN. I respect the guy and all for what he's done, but His site does suck. Very messy. I have started to read reviews there and they seem to go on and on and on......

He just did some sort of lecture series at my university. I had wanted to go but it conflicted with class. I really don't "get" the whole AICN montra, nor I agree with his tastes. (he is more action-ey than me) I think his image is part of what makes him more noticeable than more quality establishments, like this one. But, on the flip side, he is good to my city and this film festival I intern for so that's always nice.

Well he looks liek the fat fuck movie nerd geek into all the nerdy things, and knowing them as a nerd does, ala comic book guy but much worse.

Then we have Joe, a cool looking guy, knows his movies just as much as harry, probably even more, and still has fun, CAN get some for 2 reasons, one of them being he can actually move around and not sit at the computer for the rest of his life unlike some other fatass we know. And he can even keep his site organized, and have proper movie discussions in it too.

thats my opinion though, and if anyone doesnt like it they can go suck off harry for his first time.

I have been going to his site since ... shit I can't even remember how long.

The fact that bastard got onto the set of TCM03 is bad enough... then they put him in the movie? Ass...

Don't get me wrong, I loved TCM03, and it was nice to see his head on a plater, but stilll... ass!

I love the commentary on the DVD. "Yea, one day Harry Knowles shows up, and we're all, 'shit, hide the scripts, don't let him see Leatherface'! Then I got the idea to be the first filmmaker to have his head on a plater. And I did."

Talkbalks on AICN are so annoying. I can't even navigate that site anymore because it's so slow and confusing. Why it's so popular is beyond me.
