Who are the celebs in acting, music, sports, that you look up to, respect, or just are huge fans that put them above the rest in your mind? Why are your favorites your favorites? Here are mine...
Bob Marley
http://reggaepalace.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/bob-marley-and-guitar-pic1.jpg
I am a huge fan of not just his music, but the man himself. He is a man that used his talents to try to make the world a better place. His message is almost universally applicable to anyone. You do not have to be Rasta (I mean theres like 5 people in history that were ACTUALLY rasta), or religious at all for that matter to draw inspiration from his message. Peace, Love, Equality, and Ganja (which believe it or not as huge a Marley fan as I am I don't smoke, though I am for the legalization of it ). IMHO One of the greatest songwriters. Listen to songs like No Woman, No Cry, and it is a beautifully written song about seeing the good things in life no matter how bad it seems. I wish we still had this man around today, though his sons do a great job in continuing his message. Stephen, Ziggy, and Damian specifically all put out GREAT music.
Arnold Schwarzenegger

Bodybuilder, Actor, Governor, Badass! The guy does everything. Who woulda thought a 20 year old immigrant who moved from Austria without speaking much English at all would come to the country and climb that ladder! Say what you want about his politics and what not, it still is an impressive climb. Arnold is one of those guys I have looked up to almost my entire life! I will forever be a fan boy, and once he is out of office, if he is still making action movies at 93 years old, I will still be there first in line to see his movies.
John Lennon

Musically a lot of what I said about Bob Marley are my same sentiments on him. The guy was a songwriting genius whether it was a love song or a politically charged song. He was not going to hold back what he thought about anything. He would translate his feelings into music. I am a huge fan of his work with the Beatles as well as his solo work. I am not saying the dude was not an asshole sometimes, but I think by the end of his life, he was a genuinely good person at heart. I believe he would still be making hits if he were still with us.
Michael Jordan
http://static.open.salon.com/files/michael_jordan1242892345.jpg
I am a lifelong basketball fan, so of course this is someone that I look up to. This dude has an ego so large that it is really what propelled him to be the best. He would not accept failure. He would make his opponents mortal enemies in his mind, going as far as making up things they may have said against him to piss him off, and in turn destroy them on the basketball court. There will never be another Michael Jordan, he took his name, and his talent, and not only tore up the NBA with it, but he made a multi billion industry out of it. He also made arguably the greatest cinematic achievement of all time in Space Jam, that alone would have been enough to make my list!
Johnny Depp

This guy is what a celebrity should be. He is probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest name in Hollywood at the moment, but if someone saw him on the street and did not know who he was, they would probably think of him as just the nice dude next door. I could tell a million stories I have heard of this guys charity, but you probably all know them. Aside from him just being an insanely awesome human being, he is just a badass actor. He can play anything and put his own spin on it to make it badass, whether it is Ed Wood, Jack Sparrow, George Jung, John Dillinger, or Sweeney Todd. He owns every role he takes it seems. I do not see this guy going away any time soon.
There are mine, who are your favorites?

In no specific order. These are just some and may add some more as the thread continues
George Clooney- I like George not only for being one hell of a fine actor but also because he is involved in other things like politics. Usually I don't give a shit what an actors politics are but George uses his position to actually spread awareness of issues. Even though he has been a dick to the paparazzi (which I would be too) he's always a class act to legitimate news outlets and always has big grin on his face when he's being interviewed on shows and is always happy and enthusiastic with the new movie he's done or is working on. And the fact he got in a fist fight with David O. Russell on the set of Three Kings when Russell was hassling the extras is just awesome, way to stand up for the little people George. He was also born in my hometown.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie- I bunch them together because they are Hollywood's power couple. Angelina isn't the best actress in the world but she has done a lot of humanitarian work around the world. With Brad joining her he's brought her work to the forefront and actually uses his influence and popularity to help bring awareness to the things that are happening in the third world countries. And even though they are in the media a lot they actually do seem like they have a normal life outside of the business which is really hard to do.
Daniel Day Lewis- He is one of my favorite actors of all time but my favorite thing about him is that he picks and chooses his movies. For me it's always an excitement when he does movie because he only does one every few years and that's cool because he doesn't do pay check movies he does movies that he feels are good. I always loved hearing about him on the set of Gangs of New York because he got really proficient with throwing knives and listened to Eminem to be constantly angry.
Harrison Ford- The man responsible for my top two all time favorite movie characters and probably actually more movies in my top 100 than any other actor even De Niro who I do consider my favorite actor. Aside from being a damn fine actor in my opinion he's also a damn admirable human being. I remember a few years back he actually flew his helicopter in to a forest that was on fire to rescue some stranded hikers or some thing like that and then later donated a helicopter to the Fire Search and Rescue Department. How many other actors or people would do that?
Quentin Tarantino- Damn near every movie he has worked on is in my top 100. I love him when he's interviewed on stuff because he has such a trivial knowledge of film. He also has some of the most random tastes in movies, which is cool because it just goes to show he has he has such a love for cinema in general. He's just so interesting to watch when ever he's talking about his new movie because he gets so excited, you can tell he truly loves what he does. He also has no love for the paparazzi which is awesome because those people are vultures.

1. Robert De Niro - The guy IMO is the best actor of his generation. He is so versatile and now that he has gotten older has switched to comedy and has killed it. He is in the majority of my favorite movies and has played some of my favorite roles of all-time
http://www.nilacharal.com/enter/celeb/images/johnnyDepp.jpg
2. Johnny Depp - The guy might be the best in the biz right now in terms of bringing his character to life. How has he not gotten a statue yet? Plus in his spare time he goes to his OWN island and watches YouTube clips on his boat while his kids play on the beach, that is more ballin that Dave Chappelle's cribs skit.

3. LeBron James - The guy is the definition of cool when it comes to athletes. He could be the most smug person if he wanted to but comes off naturally as a nice guy. What most people don't realize is that there are people out there with as much raw talent as him but just didn't make any of the right decisions. So far he has made all the right moves and hopefully comes to NY to resurrect my dreadful Knicks. Loved his cameo on Entourage.

4. Martin Scorsese - That little man has made some of my favorite movies of all-time, plus I would argue that he is the absolute best at putting together a memorable soundtrack. I wouldn't mind sharing a few drinks with him and just laying back and listening to some amazing stories.

5. Tupac Shakur - Yes he is dead, but he is still my favorite rap artist and lived a crazy, controversial life. I'm sure a lot of people on these boards think he's still alive, and it certainly is possible but that guy was just a walking topic of conversation.

David Bowie - Grew up buying 8 tracks and albums and just loving Bowie's totally unique style of vocals and writing and in performance so different and cool. Gr8 studio work from late 60's thru 1980.
Roger Moore - THE James Bond IMO-The Saint-just Moore's good looks and style on screen as a mature Bond.
Tony Randall - Felix of The Odd Couple t.v. series for 5 seasons. What a talent! and seemingly a very sweet guy. Randall's work on The Odd Couple was brilliant.
Adam West - Obviously the 1960's T.V. series BATMAN! The best speaking voice I've ever heard,Adam should have been tapped to do audio books years back. I loved how West played it straight and serious in the role of Batman , amid all the zany villains ,color and artsy camera angles.
Stephen King - It's all about the books of course. The one thing that I find in almost all of the short stories and always in the novels-is (maybe not intended?) an unflattering yet laugh out load insight to MEN. 8147

My list, in no order:
http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2007/specials/oscars07/show/beauty/kate_winslet.jpg
Well this one's pretty self-explanatory... In interviews and on the red carpet and everything, she just seems like the most irresistibly charming and incredible and totally real and down-to-earth woman. Not to mention that she is just an amazing performer and definitely my favorite actress of all time.
http://www.wildsound-filmmaking-feedback-events.com/images/meryl_streep.jpg
So if Winslet's my favorite actress, Streep is definitely the best; she is a simply phenomenal performer and she just delivers incredible role after incredible role after incredible role. Which is why it's so refreshing to see just how breezy and fun and just totally warm and down-to-earth she seems in interviews and on the red carpet, while also talking very professionally and expertly about her craft.

Sure, he's kind of waned in his film work as of late, but even in his appearances at the Oscars and the Golden Globes and the likes, Hanks just seems like a totally nice guy, an irresistible charmer, and just this bubbly and constantly humorous jokester-type personality - he just seems like a totally fun guy to just hang out with, and when he gets serious - which he often does like during his Oscar speech for Philadelphia back in 1994 - he just seems like the most articulate and fascinating guy.
http://images.askmen.com/specials/2007_top_49/men/matt_damon.jpg
Like Clooney (who I would have mentioned but he has already been a few times before so I decided to mix it up a bit), Damon just has this kind of totally humble and down-to-earth quality to him that totally comes off in interviews and red carpets: he just seems like the kind of guy that would be totally cool if you just bumped into him on the street and just strike up a conversation with him. He can be absolutely hilarious but also really serious and dedicated to a lot of causes that he is passionate about. And any guy with the amount of humility and ability to poke fun at himself that Damon has gets high marks in my book. Not to mention that he is a fantastic and totally underrated actor.
http://www.welokee.nl/welokee/faces/img/amy_adams2.jpg
I just TOTALLY fell in love with her when she started showing up on red carpets and at awards shows and interviews around 2007 when Enchanted came out - she just seems like the most humble and adorable person - and she has just the cutest and most adorably awestruck smile I've ever seen. She's also totally proven herself as an actress, but mostly it's just so much fun to see her on the red carpet, grinning embarassedly and just so bubbly and adorable.

Ozzy Osbourne- I've met him already and really hit it off. He is the coolest guy on the planet.
Traci Lords- *Still* lovely to look at and after reading her autobiography, would be really cool to hang out with.
Jack Nicholson- It's "Jackie Boy".
Kevin Smith- Everyone says he is really nice and I would love to chat with him about a great many things.
Bruce Dickinson- On top of making so much great fucking music, he can fence, write and direct, and fly planes.
