Anyone in Quentin's hood got a Spike Lee Fav.....

I am a fan of most of his work but "Clockers" is one of my all time favorites.

I never made it through "Clockers". I fell asleep twice and haven't rented it again. One of these days I'll make it through. I'm also remiss in not having seen "Malcom X".

My favorite Lee film that I have seen is "He Got Game". Beautiful look at urban youth, basketball and the world it drives, and a father/son relationship. I could respect "Do The Right Thing" for being a good film, but it pissed me off. I didn't agree with the message I thought Lee was sending across with Mookie's actions but through a discussion in film class I was able to sorta grasp a bit more what he was doing with the film. I still have troubles watching it, though.

I actually caught JUNGLE FEVER on TV the other day (cable) and was surprised at how good it was. I remembered it as being "okay" but nothing more than that, but this time around, I really appreciated all the different characters (and there were plenty), some of the great points brought out, the whole Sam Jackson junkie subplot and Wesley Snipes "acting"? (guess that was before he turned his SAG card in for action-super-hero guy!).

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, I suggest you give it a chance. The directing is also quite good, with plenty of HOW'D HE DO THAT?-type of shots. A nice surprise.

For me it is almost an exact tie between Malcolm X and Do The Right Thing, they are right after eachother on my top 10 favorite films. Malcolm X contains one of the 10 best performances I have ever seen, and is a completely POWERFUL story, that scene were Malcolm brings his "army" to see the beaten brother will stay with me always. Do The Right Thing has a great message...but despite what many think it is not just a "message movie". It is also entertsaining, funny, a showcase for many great performances, and a great "day in the life" style film. It is also the film inwhich I get most emotional (and theres nothing worse than watching a fat man weep...)

Here's my list of Lee films I have seen all but Girl 6 and She's Gotta Have It>

1.Malcolm X (by a smidgen)
2.Do The Right Thing
3.He Got Game
4.Get On The Bus
5.Clockers
6.Jungle Fever
7.Crooklyn
8.Summer of Sam
9.School Daze
10.Mo Better Blues

I always thought Spike Lee's film "She's Gotta Have It" was my favorite...until recently when I went for the flashier film "Summer Of Sam"...I think Adrian Brody rocks...and the whole seventies feel is great...baba o'riley...teenage wasteland...
