I've never seen it completely, but I saw a small part (~10-15 mins) on TV a couple of weeks ago.

It's one of the scenes where they record a TV show live.

Is it me, or the editing is terrible. The editing of the movie doesn't seem to work ...

it's not synced with the music.
it's not synced with the rhythm.
it's not synced with the movements.
...

What do you think ?

Call me stupid, but when you say that the editing is not in sync with the music, rhythm, and movements what do you mean exactly? Do you mean that the people in the scene are dancing offbeat to the music? Perhaps that is because they overlayed the music later in post-production or something to that effect. Just a cheesy assumption.

sorry if it wasn't clear, the "it's" is the editing ... the cuts.

I'm saying that, we'll it's kind of hard to say ...
The editing does not seem to be appropriate for the scene. The cuts are placed ... randomly.

I'm not saying that the editor shoud have used eisensteinian montage, but he should have used some sort of technique.

To build the tension, or a sense a rhythm (needed especially in a dance scene ...), the cuts should be placed accordingly to the filmic elements ... movements, cam. movements, music, ...

It's not the case here. The cuts are not synced with anything ... neither the music, neither the movements, ...

Did you get that feeling ?

Thanks for the explanation, now I understand exactly what you mean. /ubb/smile.gif

You make me want to watch the movie again, just to check that scene out. Maybe I'll catch it next time VH1 shows it under Movies That Rock.

From what I remember, the scene began with people arriving with their dates, then someone mentioned how they would do a warm-up dance before they go on air live, and then once they went on air live, they showed the waitresses at the local hangout watching them dance on television, and then there was that dance contest which Danny and Sandy are in, then Danny kind of gets suckered into dancing with an old girlfriend during the contest, Sandy gets mad and blows the pop stand, and off course other things happen during the course of things (like generic Dick Clark hitting on that one student or whatever). . .Perhaps I've seen the movie more times than I care to admit. I'll just pretend I have good memory.

I see what you're saying. I believe that you are saying that the editing has no real sequence and there's just a lot of random jumping around.

You definitely got me interested in watching the flick again, though.
