...wow, your list looks like the "best of" line-up for the TNT and USA Networks...you know, the cable channels that show all of your "favorites" completely edited and re-cut to make room for commercials and to get rid of "objectionable material"...

Where's "Flashdance", "Days Of Thunder", "Risky Business", "Revenge Of The Nerds", "Bad Influence", "Grease", "Rain Man" & "Footloose"?

Crynot

Uh oh!!!!!!

Look out!!!

Brock Landers the second.

Where'd you copy that list from Jon Lap? /ubb/smile.gif

"Footloose" i thought about the second I got off the computer, and figured someone else would post it for me -- so thanks. I agree with everything except maybe "Days Of Thunder." I only saw it once, so I can't really say.

Did you see "Amongst Friends"? It's another one of my favorite's -- though I think it's a great film period, but most people would laugh at me. Same goes for "Three Of Hearts," with William Baldwin, Kelly Lynch, Sherilyn Fenn, and Joe Pantoliano. I think thta film is fantastic -- both have influenced me. And oh, did you ever see "Swept Away" with Giancarlo Gianini?

I own "Amongst Friends" on VHS and absolutely love it...it is so great...from the party before he gets busted with the Beastie Boys music...Brass Monkey...that funky monkey...to smokin' the doobs to killing your best friend...it's a lot of fun and the cast is pretty damn good...

...another great flick similar to "Amongst Friends" is "Crossing The Bridge"...it even has David Schwimmer as a stoned drug dealer...righteous...

"Three Of Hearts" was pretty good as I remember it...something about a gay guy, a jock ladies man and a intellectual bookworm chick and they get it on in the end...It has a great Alexis Arquette role...I remember how Sherilyn Fenn would get off on long words like "phantasmogoric"...

CryNot, wipe the smiley face off the next time you want to make a snide remark -- i'll take it better. Where else would I get that list?? -- by looking on the back of some of the video's I own.

"Run along now friend, your dessert is getting cold."

Crynot

As Brock would say - "Chill Bra" That's why I used the smiley face - cause it was just a joke.

"You're right though, I'd better hurry cause your mom makes the best deserts"

I also wanted to add "Judgement Night" because Denis Leary is so great in it...and Stephen Dorff, Cuba Gooding Jr., Emilio Estevez & Jeremy Piven do good jobs as well...plus the guy from the band House Of Pain is in it...sweet...

Also check out Walter Hill's "Trespass", "My Bodyguard" (not to be confused with "The Bodyguard"), "Roadhouse", "That was then, This is now", "Repo Man", "Bad Influence", "Juice", "The Warriors", "RUN", "Young Guns", "Men at Work", "Ambition", "Renegades", etc...more later...

Yea, great movies Brock!

Also, Wild Cats, Revenge, Karate Kid. Snow Day was awesome! Flatliners, A League Of Their Own, Diggstown, The Hard Way.

Crynot, how's life at 15. Even if you're older physically, mentally you're stuck there -- mom joke's?? Please, say something offensive, I might have more respect for you. Either that, or just suck it up and admit you're a jerk-off. Either one will suffice.

C'mon dudes...don't make me start "monitoring" these boards again. Ugh, I hate that gig.

Crynot

It's cool to rib people from time to time, but it turns out this board is full of folks with different ideas, writing styles and presentations. Implying that people are stealing shite from elsewhere ain't cool (even as a joke). Let's try to keep things clean.

Jon Lap

No matter what anyone says here on the board, it's like the F**KIN' FIGHT CLUB around here and there are rules (one set: three rules: posted on top of each forum). Rule #2 says clearly:

"2) No personal attacks. End of story.

Explanation: You can argue all you want (that's what these boards are all
about), but if you cannot control yourself and start insulting others, you
will be watched like a hawk and eventually warned and booted out."

I don't think I need to say much else. Now let's get back to MOVIES! I thought this was actually a very cool topic. In fact, I'll follow up on it after this icky warning thingie. C'mon guys!!!

JoBlo

Now that I got that out of the way...

Hey cool, TRUE ROMANCE is probably in my TOP 10 FAVORITE MOVIES of all-time list!! Does that mean that I needn't consider myself a "critic"?!? Kewl.......I hate that shite!

And CRUEL INTENTIONS almost cracked my TOP 10 last year (if it weren't for that banner year that it was).

I dig most of your list but have no idea how MAN WITHOUT A FACE got in there. Was it really entertaining? I remember it being boring.

If you want to add a specific movie from this year which was COMPLETE ENTERTAINMENT and not much else...

CHARLIE'S ANGELS, baby!! Yeah!!

Hey Jon, man I like you and all, and enjoyed you on AIM, but your not exactly the best guesser when it comes to age. You seemes pretty suprised to learn I was 13, and thought CryNot was only 15, he is actually in his 20's, married, and has a pretty nice life, from what I know. You might not totally understand his comments at first, since you weren't here a few months ago, so let me try to explian and thus defuse ths as much as possible: about two months ago CryNot made a post about how Brock was posting one HELL of a lot, and he simply didn't think he could come up with so many topics so often, and thought (as mnay schmoes did at the time) that Brock must have been copying all of what he said off of the internet, but besides quotes a some info from IMDb he does apparently write all of his won posts. So when he saw your very long list he JOKINGLY (hence the winky smile) wrote "Brock Landers the second, where'd you copy that from" I can understand how you could take this as a serious attack, but I know CryNot and I guarantee you he wasn't trying to start shit. Please drop this or else it will escalate into big fights and end up having to be deleted by Jo (trust me I know from experience). So just call it even and play nice. Thanks Jon.

Die Hard With a Vengeance is missing
so is Speed, Jurassic Park, Rock n Roll high School, American Pie, and probably one that shouldn't have been missed - From Dusk Til Dawn

Jon Lap
11-30-2000, 12:45 PM
FINE! FINE! Everything is cool.

Sorry Jo.
And yea, I think "Man Without A FAce" is incredible.

Quentin, I was only implying that he was 15, due to his "mom" joke. I figured he probably was older, just acting immature. And I still don't get this whole Brock thing??

"From Dusk Til Dawn" was awesome! So was "American Pie," "Speed," and "Die Hard..." Never saw "Rock 'N Roll Hight." Thanks man!

Crynot
11-30-2000, 01:00 PM
I've got to be immature - it's the only thing that keeps me young.

American Pie is sweet! I would have to go with "Sneakers" also.

As far as pure entertainment (these are not necessarily great or even good films) goes some other must-haves are "Dirty Work", "GunShy", "Excess Baggage", "Feeling Minnesota", "Black Sheep", "Meet Wally Sparks", "Mystery Men", "Kiss Toledo Goodbye", "Jerry & Tom", "The Runner", "Oxygen", etc...more later...

Crynot
11-30-2000, 02:15 PM
Dirty Work was awesome but "excess Baggage" I thought was completely boring the whole way through.

Crynot

Jon Lap
11-30-2000, 07:39 PM
I can watch "Excess Baggage," but I did't feel, "Feeling Minnesota."

Others: Pet Cemetary, American Gothic, Trading Places, Breakin', Beat Street, Poetic Justice, Cyborg, Lion Heart, Needful Things, April Fool's Day, **HEAVENLY KID**

And Jo -- as far as films like "Cruel Intentions" and such, I just mean you won't see them on most, if any top critic's list.

You guys forgot a few I think...

Strange Brew
Beavis and Butthead Do America
Office Space
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Then there's movies like Almost Famous, Beautiful Girls, Clerks, Trainspotting, and the like which are not only tremendously entertaining, but also great films.

I'm glad you all worked out your differences, all I want on this board is peace, love and eternal harmony... Or something to that effect. Or not at all. Hell, bitter resentment is fine with me so long as it's kept offline... Whatever, right!?

So anyway, how'd you all forget: HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN...?!?! Damn, one of my most favorite movies of all time; Don Johnson, Mickey Rourke, William Baldwin, Giancarlo Espesito, Big John Stud, Vanessa Williams, Tia Carrera, John Sizemore - cool motorcycles and lots of guns.

I agree with every other movie mentioned aside from MAN WITHOUT A FACE. And thanks for bringing back so many good memories Jon Lap... CAN'T BUY ME LOVE is a great movie!

There's only a few movies I've gone to see for reasons other than to be entertained. To make a list that would be nothing but entertaining would use up all the room on the server.
All of John Hughes' movies and Cocktail would be at the top of the list.
And thanks to everbody that makes these kinds of films because that's why we see them. If we wanted to see movies that gave us a deep message or somebody's under lying values, the IMAX theatres would have higher box office returns.
