I first saw this movie 4 years ago and loved it, then saw it again 6 months later and it was even better! A great character driven movie and from what I understand a first time effort. The thing that I liked most was the fact that it was a well conceived story that rang so true when there are so few movies like this about. I would love to hear any thoughts anyone has on this film.

"Spanking The Monkey" was the first film I ever saw Jeremy Davies in...and he made quite an impression. This film is like "The Graduate" except instead of the girlfriend's mother, it eliminates the middle-woman, and makes Mrs. Robinson his own mother...Jeremy Davies aka Ray, has a slight case of the Oedipus complex...now that his father is gone, his mother is all his for the taking. Jeremy Davies has gone on to do some small but memorable roles in films like "Ravenous", "Saving Private Ryan" & "Twister"..."Spanking The Monkey" was also directed by David O. Russell who went on to do the phenomenal film "Three Kings"...

Jeremy Davies always reminded me of Henry Thomas (E.T. kid). Not that they look alike, because they don't, but, they look alike. . .If that made any sense. Kind of like Matthew Broderick and Jon Cryer. They don't look alike, but yet, they do.
Anyway, I thought Jeremy Davies was good in Saving Private Ryan as the scared as hell translator, but I totally dug him in SPANKING THE MONKEY.
SPANKING THE MONKEY was very good and tasteful considering the Hamlet-esque subject matter. It could have easily grossed me out, but it didn't. Loved the guy who played his father. He's a regular on AS THE WORLD TURNS.

Hello. Another good J. Davies performance is in "Going All The Way (with a less known and younger Ben Affleck, and Rose McGowan).

Good to hear your feedback people, as usual Brock you replied very promptly, EXCELLENT! Raena great to hear from you aswell, I know exactly what you mean about people who look a like but don't, Jon Cryer and Matthew Broderick do look the same but different, it's weird isn't it? Brock, Spanky was the first thing I saw Davies in aswell and I was most impressed. Since then he has allowed himself to be type cast which is a shame because he is a really talented actor. Jon Lap good to hear from ya, Going all the way is a good flick, a bit depressing though.
