The latest from As Good as it Gets director James L. Brooks.

Between this and Love and Other Drugs, late this year actually looks like a decent time for romantic comedies.

This looks... normal. Very, very normal. Now granted, this is one of the biggest "don't judge it by its trailer" genres - but considering that this is the guy that made three of the best romantic comedies of all time - Terms of Endearment (which is really only HALF a romantic comedy, and half family drama), Broadcast News and As Good as it Gets... I was a little underwhelmed by this. Who knows, it might turn out to be better than it looks. But so far, I'm just not getting the typical snappy characters and dry wit that I've come to expect of Brooks. Cast is promising, though, and I'll follow this as it develops/gets reviews. But for now, I shall remain neutral.

I love As Good as it Gets and liked Broadcast News but I found Terms of Endearment to be kind of meh.

Best thing the guy has ever done is his involvment with The Simpsons.

I really liked As Good as it Gets and Terms of Endearment, and I absolutely LOVED Broadcast News, it's easily my favorite film of his. Brooks has a very adult and mature approach to the romance genre and doesn't cheapen his films with tropes or shallow characterizations. In fact, the characters are often the strongest points in his films. However, Spanglish was mediocre at best, and I've alread commented on how "normal" this trailer looks. I agree, though, his involvement in the Simpsons is awesome :) Almost as awesome as Conan's writing and Brad Bird's directing of some episodes.

Colectomy,
Colostomy,
Polypectomy,
Strictureplasty,
Anoplasty,

Those are the top five colorectal surgeries I'd rather have performed sans anaesthesia than see this movie.

Brooks is slumming low and I'm sure Jack is pissed he finally called in that "I won you two Oscars" card. He's only got so many more years, he's gotta make better choices.
