I know this isn't really movie talk, but have you guys been keeping up with what he is doing right now? If you haven't - as I type this he is smack dab in the middle of a giant ice cube freezing himself. He has been there for about 2 days now and tonight he will come out of it. Pretty crazy guy. I know his first main gig was to levitate which he said himself is just an illusion, then the man buries himself in a coffin for like a week - he claimed it was endurence. Now he's freezing himself - another claim of just shutting down your mind and some big time endurance.
What do you guys think of him?

Magician? Illusionist? Not. A Practicing Masochist is more like it. Hopefully, he won't live and die by the sword.
Yesterday morning I was watching Good Morning America, and Diane Sawyer, standing next to David Blaine's girlfriend, said that the audience had some questions to ask David (who's standing in his block of ice).
The questions were written on cue cards and held up to him so he could nod and make facial expressions or whatever.
First Question: Are you cold?
Second Question: Are you very, very cold?
Third Question: Are you painfully cold?
Fourth Question: Do you want a cheeseburger right now?
These questions made me laugh (so shoot me), but you could tell him or his girlfriend weren't the least bit thrilled by this line of questioning.
My question would be: Are you a dumbass?
How much do you want to bet that he'd agree with me (while still in the block of ice)?
Still and all though, at least he's trying something a bit different. And yeah, folks are interested.

I think the guy's a freak show. He should be in the movies though, for sure. Who wouldn't want to see a larger-than-life documentary/behind the scenes look at this guy's life. His shows creep the bajeezus outta me. Definitely cool.

The guy is absolutely crazy, I love the stunts he pulls off. He makes David Copperfield look like an amateur. What I like about his acts is that he doesn't need elaborate sets to amaze you. (ie: Sigfried and Roy) He's like a hybrid magician/psychic/freak who's able to take his body and push it to it's physical limits.
For the ice cube stunt, he's being fed intravenously, taking blood thinners, peeing through a catheter (ouch!) and has basically 2 inches of space between him and the ice. He can't fall asleep for 2.5 days and basically has to stand perfectly still. We know it's a trick but to stand still for that long without sleep is a feat in itself.
I've seen his other specials where he goes on the street and pulls these impossible tricks in front of strangers, it's pretty cool. The levitation illusion is mind boggling.
I'd love to see a movie/documentary on his life.

I heard he was freezing himself to get away from his ex-girlfriend Fiona Apple who calls and bothers him all the time...

I used to dabble in magic when I was in high school and I know that the levitation thing is totally a trick. But it has to take some serious mind concentration to be able to stand up in the middle of a cube of ice for 3 days.

My cousin, who is a "professional" magician, doesn't really like Blaine. He thinks that what Blaine does isn't magic, just plain tricks. Blaine isn't really freezing himself, just like he wasn't really living in a casket full of water, just like he wasn't really levatating. I personally think that his shows are pretty cool, but a lot of the tricks are quite easy to learn.

Actually, I don't get any of his shite!
I mean, what's so "magical" or "illusional" about what he does? He slaps himself under a sheet of water for a few days and then comes out alive. He buries himself inside a stick of ice, and comes out, a little cold.
What's the joke?
I honestly don't get it.
Isn't it just an endurance thing? How's about those people who swim across English channels or chew glass? Aren't they more impressive? Bah!

They said it was a publicity stunt. I watch his first show on tv, and was amazed. Then I watch his second show, and was totally turned off. I didn't watch the show last night, but this morning on the news, they showed him coming out and whining all the way.

i dont know if u got this in the U.S. but over here in blighty, not so long ago we got a programme called the secrets of street magicians reveeled and it said how mr.Blaine did all his tricks ('course i had to watch it). basically the bloke who did it said he wasn't doing it for the cash, but so that david would come up with even more impressive tricks. looked like it worked.
just had to add this, joblo mate there's only one english channel.

David Blane is my Favorite Magician. I really like his "style." He doesn't hide behind huge magic tricks. He goes right in front of the people and does some astounding shite. I think this guy is the coolest. He was just released from the Ice Cube last night. he looked really spaced out and stuff. But he is so cool and I love watching his specials. Oh yea, his girlfriend is really really hot!

Jerry Sadowitz is the greatest exponent of close up magic. His new show The Jerry A trick show is cool. He does a sketch called David Bland. It’s very funny.
