I know that there aren't too many movies that passed the first. All I do know is that my favorite sequels that I think was better than the first are; Guyver 2: Dark Hero, RoboCop 2, and Aliens. So what do you guys think that a sequel is worthy of telling of?

Well, is you can call The Empire Strikes Back a sequel, i think this is the ultimate sequel, or rather the next part in an on-going story. The mythos of the story improved beyond all recognition, and the darkness added a truly breathtaking effect to the film. I really believe that nothing in the Star Wars canon will ever better this.

I'm not a big Hellraiser fan, so forget my praise on that, but couple of the most recent were pretty good. I didn't like Evil Dead 2 but that's just me. I just thought as the 1st to be scarier and I'm no Star Trek fan. Those are the only three I don't agree with you on. But the rest are pretty good. But what's up with Maniac Cop 3 though, why was more boring and into into horror more all of a sudden.

i can only say there are 2 movie sequels (according to me) that are better than the first one's and they are:
Aliens
Terminator 2: Judgement Day

I agree that Terminator 2 was an absolutely amazing sequel, much better than the original, but i wonder if the third will better the second?

Brock, you work in a video store don't you!? "Breakin' 2: Electric Bugaloo"??
You crack me up dude!

T2, Godfather II, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back... Are the only one's for sure by my standards.

Brock -

You really thought the commercialism of BREAKIN' 2 was better than the grittiness of BREAKIN'?

Anyway... I like:

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3 & 4 better than the first one.

Godfather 2. I don't think Aliens was better than the first, just different. Different director e.t.c.

A discussion about sequels being better than the originals and no one metnions Dawn of The Dead? This is a film chatboard, no?

And speaking of which Scream 2 was superioir to the original too...

SirReel & Jon Lap..."Breakin' 2: Electric Bugaloo" was packed with more of a dramatic punch than the original...I mean, the tale of troubled youth saving their community center from destruction through the power of break-dancing is so powerful and compelling to watch. Also in this sequel to "Breakin'", we have the inclusion of Ice-T rapping, and the unforgettable performances of Michael Chambers as "Turbo" and Adolfo Quinones as "Ozone"...their statement is loud and clear, we all have to do our part through break-dancing. Also, the direction from Sam Firstenberg ("American Ninja", "Revenge of the Ninja", misc. "Ninja" films) is some of his best work...especially with break-dancers. This is THE DEFINITIVE BREAK-DANCING FILM OF ALL TIME. When people in the future look back and want to know about break-dancing, this will be the end-all and be-all resource of this time-honored practice. Break-dancing will live forever...

- "Breakin'" (.5/10)
- "Breakin' 2: Electric Bugaloo" (1/10)

Terminator 2 is the only movie I happen to think is superior than the original.

Totally agree, Brock. Breakin 2 WAS better than the original. I'm embarassed to say how many times I have seen it. I also thought that Sister Act 2 was better than the original though I like both flicks.

Raena...I sympathize with your struggle to understand your fascination with "Breakin' 2: Electric Bugaloo", but find it impossible to identify with your Whoopi Goldberg fascination. I will never, and I mean never, pay a thin dime to watch her mug...I am afraid I will turn to stone, or worse, Ted Danson. Besides, if I want singin' nuns, Sally Field did it much better.

T2 is the best sequel IMO. I agree with Quentin, I think Scream 2 was better than Scream. It just seemed, er, more grown-up or something.

I don't know if I would say that it surpassed the original, but it is definately equal with it: TOY STORY 2. It won the Golden GLobe for best picture(comedy) last year.

I kind of agree. On first viewing of Toy Story 2 i was really quite dissapointed, but after sitting back and thinking about it and watching it again on a small screen, which made you almost concentrate on the story more than the huge effect of the animation, i really thought it was superior in every respect, but i still prefer the first.

I know a few that were better than the original (it's in my opinion)... Here they are.

BOOK OF SHADOWS:BLAIR WITCH 2 :
Ok, call me crazy but I thought this was way better than the original. I remember I had heard about the first one a year before it came out and I was so excited to see it. But when I did, I was really disapointed. I do give it credit for trying something new but it didn't work for me. However I Highly enjoyed the sequel and saw it twice in theaters and I plan on seeing it again on video. It was definately worth the money. Sorry to all you fans of the original but we all have our own opinions. And that gothic chick was hot, again, just my opinion...

Terminator 2: This was hands down better than the original and I think a lot of people would agree. No explanation needed...

Toy Story 2: I loved this movie, it's for people of all ages, and I'd say it's equal with the original.

Other than these I don't really know to many movie sequels that are better than the original. I thought Scream 2 was good but I still liked the first one a lot better, so I won't say that it's better than the original, but it was very enjoyable.

Ahhh, sequels... a lot of them are mighty crap. But here's a few of the ones I consider to better the original...

The Empire Strikes Back (it's still a sequel)
The Godfather part II
Terminator 2
Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn

I'm also a big John Woo fan, so in my opinion the suspense of the original M:I is equalled by the poetic action sequences 'The Woo' throws into M:I-2.

Aliens: Alien was great but Aliens was the epitomy of sci-fi

Terminator 2: Few would argue

Star Trek II: I hated the first Trek movie and many of the other ones suck as well, but Wrath of Kahn was cool.

Empire Strikes Back: I don't think it was as big of a leap as some have alleged, but it was definitly better in some aspects.

I will argue. TERMINATOR 2 is NOT better than the original. Wow! Loads of explosions, shootings and chase scenes. Nothing will compare to the fear you felt in the original when Arnie was the terminator - he will stop at nothing. You didn't know who was gonna win. As for the scene where the lorry explodes and the skeletal frame of the terminator emerges when you thought it was finally dead...that is one of the best scenes ever in movie history!!!
Once it got killed in the first one, you knew they could do it again - whether it was Arnie or Robert Patrick you knew who was gonna win in T2. Bigger budget does not mean better film! T2 lost that claustrophobic feel of the first one and turned into an all out action movie.

personally i'm not a great fan of sequels but if i had to choose my faves they'd be:
-the godfather part II
-toy story 2
-terminator 2

these 3 are the only sequels i can think of that are better than the original.
all in all though - that 2 at the end of the title has always pissed me off for some reason - why not give the movie a whole different name? i could go into much detail but i don't really understand what i'm saying so i doubt you will /ubb/smile.gif
