I am so fed up with this. When a movie comes
out to buy. It comes on DVD. The people who
are staying with VHS,like myself, have to wait
months for the thing to come out.
I wanted "The Kid" and "Frequency" so bad.
They are only on DVD. I am so pissed. This
is not fair. Just becuz some of us would
rather not spend tons of money,on the new
thing...does not mean we should be punished.
In a way,we are. I think they should come
out together or on VHS first, since,VHS was
around first.

Awwww, come on man, DVDs don't suck, it's the retailers that suck for waiting so damn long for putting movie's out on VHS. Mind you, it was always like that. Movies would be available to rent and then like 6 months later, you could buy the VHS version. So technically, things really haven't changed.

Why would you want to watch movies on VHS anyway? The bad picture, awful audio....etc. Like Dominick said, pony up the cash and invest in DVDs. Invest in the future! Excelsior! (Okay, I got carried away there.)

I just got my dvd player this weekend,I was sooooo happy. I tell ya...I will never go back to vhs(you can't make me)....the clarity of the picture, the options you have to view scenes, the sound with my big screen and surround sound....life is good...and dvd's are the best

You can still keep the "ol' clunker" VHS player and all the tapes you own, there's no need to get rid of all the stuff.

BUT, once you get the DVD player, buy all the movies you like (new releases) and slowly start building up your collection. As time goes, you can start replacing the old VHS tapes with DVDs...Simple, no?

Where I live DVD's are the same cost as videos, if fact the Figth Club DVD I bought was CHEAPER than the video which cost me my soul, but I'm still glad I got it!

i have had my dvd for just under a week now and i have it hooked up to my video as well.
i have 250+ vhs vids, which i still watch!
dvd is amazing and you will not regret coughing up a bit of cash for one!

I don't think DVDs suck. They are great, the quailty isn't as good as LDs, but that is another story all together.

And, you can get a cheap player and DVDs aren't as expensive as they once were.

And, like someone said, you build up your collection slowly.

I love the DVDs that I have and the tapes that I have (even if I don't watch that much...)

All in all DVDs are better because, VHS go shitty in two years.

Dr. Drew. That is so RIGHT! Don't blame DVD's blame the retailers. I remember those damn days of waiting MONTHS for a frieken movie. And then you realize how really freiken shitty VHS tapes really are. Be strong man. Be strong

dvd does not mean the death of vhs. but it does mean the death of vhs widescreen.

but, for instance, some movies need to be watched on video, like horror movies. they do not need crisp sound and beautiful pictures to make it good.

i love vhs and let's just say that dvd and i are just friends. dvd is nice, but nothing can make me stray from good old FAITHFUL vhs.

If you buy a DVD player you can still watch VHS tapes. DVD's Rule, I got one it is so awesome the picture is so sharpe that will make you never want to veiw a VHS tape again I saw a DVD player by RCA out there on sale for 99.99. I see old DVD for 9 bucks and if you shop around you get new ones for 19.99. The features are so coll you don't have to wait to rewind you just skip ahead I highly recommend that everybody should get one!!!!

DVD's are sometimes cheaper then video if you buy them when they just come out. Example: I bought Gladiator for 14.95 on DVD. That is a great deal considering it is 2 discs! I still love VHS because I can get some old movies only on VHS, plus I don't have a DVD player in my room so I can only watch videos. GOOD BUY American Psycho for 9.95 on VHS at Media Play. Holy crap!!

Uhh... acutally, the DVD's and VHS tapes are released at the same time... problem is, the VHS tapes are not released on sell-through and are only sold to rental stores (though you can actually purchase the VHS tapes at places like Amazon.com for about $100 if you're impatient). This gives the movie time to make some money as rentals. Since DVD rentals were for quite some time uncommon, they havn't followed the same trend for one reason or another. As DVD players become more common though, you will may soon find that they too will first only be available to rental stores (or $100 if you want to cough up the cash and know where to get them) and then, 6 months later, go on sell-through and actually be affordable.

Problem Solved: Hock up two VCR or buy a nice dual deck recording machine and rent and copy the movie and Urika... You have a movie before it comes out. I have a DVD player but I'm a fan of old movies and when go out and rent new or old movie at the Video store I copy and I own it... WOW ...!! So think about this and now you don't have to wait or pay $100 cause it ends up costing about $3 or $4 depending on the rental fee and don't worry about the those stupeid thing on the side they say breack if you try to copy it they don't break or work. So there is your solution and now you don't have to be punish.

Price List:

Connector for the VCR (Its the double sided cable cord) -- about $5 I think or less

Dual Deck VCR (depends on the brand -- but this copys like surround sound and its a lot clearer) -- $200 - $300 I think but I go normally with teh cable but I have this too.

Everyone will HAVE TO eventually switch to DVD because it's the digital future. Just like TV, analogue needs to be phased out.

The studios are manipulating the video market to try and sway people towards DVD, which I think is a good thing.

I gotta admit, I love the clean, sharp, and
tighter images you gdt on DVD. I still need
to get a DVD player, but I DO intend, if no
one ever puts out old horrors on DVD to burn
them myself. It's just that I wanna rent some
horror vids to see if they're cool, and if
they are, buy a copy and sell it to my horror
buds. But I'll have a life long lasting film
on DVD that some films will never GET on DVD,
but won't take up a whole livingroom wall for
storage. 500 DVD's or cassettes. Makes you
think about it for a while.
