I had this under the topic, ON VIDEO THIS WEEK!!! but not many people were responding, I was pretty much the only one, so I decided to change the topic name... Anyway, I posted this so we can come here and review the new movies out on video every week. Use any grading scale you want and provide explanations for why you liked or didn't like the movie(s)... So, lets get busy grading this weeks new movies, they are:

ALMOST FAMOUS
CRUEL INTENTIONS 2
THE 6TH DAY
THE CREW
WONDER BOYS
THE LEGEND OF DRUNKEN MASTER
IMMORTALITY (aka The Wisdom Of Crocodiles)

Have a blast reviewing them, I want to see pretty much all of them except The Legend Of Drunken Master... Anyway, I plan on renting these movies this week and then I'll come back and review them. Thanks and be sure to come back every week and review the new movies...

Almost Famous (9.5/10) - The best film of 2000 and one of the best coming-of-age stories. Great performances, directing, dialogue, and a kickass soundtrack!

Almost Famous:
Wow, this really was a good movie. I enjoyed all of the characters and the actors were great. I hope Kate Hudson gets that oscar, she was very easy on the eye's. I also liked the girl who played Williams sister, does anyone know who she is? Anyway, I liked the character of his sister, she wasn't in the movie that much except for the beginning and end, but when she was on the screen she was great... I also liked Fairuza Balk and Anna Paquin, they were both very good. I loved the scene where Fairuza Balk was in the hotel room and Williams mother called, that was so funny... Anyway, I liked this movie a lot and it really was one of the best movies of 2000, now I have to change my best of 2000 list so I can squeeze Almost Famous on there... Also, I heard someone say that they felt the scene on the bus where they were all singing felt corney and was very unrealistic, it was in a review at amazon.com. Anyway I have to disagree, I liked that scene and it is possible for a bunch of people together on a bus to start singing... I think everyone should check this movie out, it offers something for everyone... GREAT movie... P.S.
DON'T TAKE DRUGS!!!

I agree with the last 2 posts on this board!! i fuckin' loved every single minute of Almost Famous...It quickly became my 2nd fav film of 2000 (sorry crouching tiger got bumped out of second place)

Anyway let me start by saying i sort of want to be a journalist, not a rock critic, but a film critic! plus i love rock n' roll especially stuff from the 70's etc.! Kate Hudson was almost magical in this movie, and like mike said "easy on the eyes", she was like an angel, and it just made me feel good when she turned up in scenes. Definately should deserve the oscar for this. Even though she was in the pretty crappy 200 Cigarettes i remember thinking Kate Hudson was the best part of that movie, she has that sparkle in her behaviour and mannerism that is so pleasing to watch. If she isn't already a star after the oscar nominations she will be... great potential. Also loved the performance of Patrick Fugit he was excellent, and loved the scene with him and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Frances McDormand was great as the overbearing but caring mom, and the band were all good too especially Billy Crudup and Jason Lee who i loved. Of course there all the cliches of fighting rock bands, but i really felt like i was part of it here. Plus it reinforced the notion that it is not a goodidea to SPILL YOUR GUTS OUT if you are going down in a plane crash! I didn't think singin scene on the bus was tacked on or fake, its a great song and the way it was done was really good. Once again i felt a part of what was going on at the time. Yeah Mike the scene with the mom and faruiza on the phone was great!

Overall thismovie just made me feel good and part of thestory ina way few movies have, easily one of the best of the year, and deserved more nominations at the oscars. Bump Chocolat or Erin Brockovich-take ur pick. A True gem of a film IMHO.

Cruel Intentions 2:
Wow, when this movie started I was thinking, man, what a pathetic rip off of the first Cruel Intentions. And yes, some of the diologue and scenes are stolen from the first one. So, imagine my surprise when I ended up liking this movie, you'll just have to ignore the acting. This was supposed to be a TV show called Manchester Prep that was going to air on Fox and was based on the first Cruel Intentions, but then before they aired the show they decided just to release it as a sequel to the first. So, this is it... Anyway, this is one of my little guilty pleasures. I wasn't expecting to like this movie that much, it looked very corney, and it was, but I still enjoyed it A LOT... I think that maybe if this movie would have had the same actors as the first one in it and the first one hadn't been made, this could have been the better one, then again, maybe not, the first one was great and one of my favorite movies... Maybe if they would have changed the name of this movie and the names of the characters and some of the scenes, they could have released it as it's own movie, and not a sequel... They definately could have gotten some better actors and actresses... Anyway, if you liked the first one and can ignore some bad acting, check this one out, you might like it... It's a movie that's so bad it's good... Oh, also, I LOVED the twist ending, it's what helped make this movie great, it put the cherry on the top...

Grade: 9/10

WONDER BOYS:
Part of me liked this movie and part of me didn't. It wasn't one of my favorite films of the year but it did manage to keep me interested, and Katie Holmes was great in it, even though she wasn't in it that much... I guess I did like it, but I didn't LOVE it. So if you want to see it, then check it out, you probably will like it...

I'm here with the list of this weeks new movies, it's not too big of a week for home video but there's a few new selections...
They Are:

The Crow 3: Salvation
Lucky Numbers
Lover's Prayer
Remember The Titans
Dancer In The Dark
The Tao Of Steve
The Specials

The only ones I want to see are The Crow: Salvation and Lucky Numbers... I know Lucky Numbers is supposed to be bad but I love Dark Comedies and Lisa Kudrow, so I'll see it no matter what... That pretty much sums it up, also please feel free to still review the new movies from last week... Thanks...
HAVE A BLAST WATCHING AND REVIEWING!!!

Lucky Numbers:
Ok, first of all, this movie is not as bad as people are saying. I thought it was good and I love Lisa Kudrow, even in this role. Although this certainly isn't in my top 20 movies of the year it still managed to keep me entertained and interested. God that one stupid/ditsy waitress woman was funny, I always love to see people act stupid. Anyway, if you are curious about this movie check it out, it's not that bad...

Grade: 7.5/10

I'll be back later with a review for The Crow: Salvation because I rented it but haven't watched it yet...

THE CROW: SALVATION

I haven't seen the first two Crow movies but I rented this one since Kirsten Dunst is in it... At least you don't need to see the other two movies in order to understand what's going on in this one, and it's probably best if you haven't seen the other ones because then this one will be something new and creative to you, it was for me... Most people have said that this one is basically like the first one but with new characters and stuff, so it's kind of the same old thing and won't really be anything new to people who have seen the other two...
But it was new for me any I HIGHLY recommend it to people who haven't seen the other ones, you'll probably enjoy it more. And if you have seen the first two, check this one out anyway... The acting was pretty good and the mood of the movie was dark, and I liked it. I think I will check out the first one since I liked this one so much, but not the second because I've heard it sucks... Anyway, I thought this one was great and I recommend it to movie fans... I just wish they would have released it in wide release in theaters, it had potential to be a hit, but the main reason they probably didn't is because the second one didn't make much money... Anyway, check it out...

Grade: 9.5/10

THE CREW:

This movie started out really bad and it took awhile for it to get going, I almost didn't finish watching it. I just sat there thinking, "is this supposed to be funny"... But after a half an hour or so it managed to get interesting so I finished it. It wasn't that great but it wasn't that bad either. I won't be adding it to my movie collection and I probably won't see it ever again. But it was an ok way to pass time once it got going... At least I got to look at Jennifer Tilly... Anyway, this is a take it or leave it movie, if you really want to see it, see it, if you don't really want to, don't... But if there's nothing better to rent, you could do worse...

Here's a little capsule review of The 6th Day (BTW, it comes out on March 27th):

The 6th Day
A Capsule Review by Bronco
RATING: 5/10

I really wanted to like The 6th Day (especially after End of Days), but I just couldn't. It didn't produce any excitement in the action scenes, and the movie was loaded with such action scenes. Arnold's character is likable, but everyone else fails to make a lasting impression (even Robert Duvall's character).

Overall, The 6th Day was a major disappointment. Want to watch a good Arnold movie? Rent Terminator 2: Judgment Day or Predator. Those were the good ol' days.

This weeks new videos include:

CHARLIE'S ANGELS
RUGRATS IN PARIS
RED PLANET
GIRLFIGHT
TEMPTATION ISLAND (All 7 episodes uncensored)

I've seen Charlie's Angels and I liked it, but I'm going to watch it again on video and then review it, so sometime this week I'll be back with a review... I'm going to rent Temptation Island because I never saw a single episode of the show, because I was always busy when it was on, and I want to see it, especially if its uncensored... I also kind of want to see Red Planet and eventually will and I kind of want to see Girlfight too... Anyway, I'll be back later this week with reviews and I hope to see your reviews too... Also, you can still review the movies that came out on video the last couple weeks if you want... So, have fun, I'm looking forward to seeing everyones reviews and opinions... /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif /ubb/smile.gif
