Not sure if any of you have heard, or are AS EXCITED as me about this film, but it's a remake to be directed by Steven Soderbergh, with a possible cast of...are you sitting down?
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Douglas, Johnny Depp, Mike Myers, Luke and Owen Wilson, Warren Beatty, Bill Murray, and John Turturro as well as quite a few others.
Uuuuhmm.....excited yet? Yipes!!!
THIS IS NUTS!!!

The cast does not make the movie. As excited I am about these actors coming together... it's really all about the story, characters, and how interesting everything is. Sure the cast is huge... but I would like to know everyone's opinion about the original movie, and if anyone really thinks that this movie could be turned into a fun, or even a timeless film.
What does everyone think of the FILM, not the cast... THE FILM. The idea grabs me a little, and I think... with the proper directing (Soderburgh is the man) and the proper script (haven't heard word of this). This could be turned into a very well done film, that's my opinion.

WHAT WHAT WHAT! DUDE ARE YOU LISTENING! CAST IS ESSENTIAL! That's like saying Harrison Ford didn't make Indiana Jones. HE DID! I admit that a Great Story can make an actor better but you need great actors to pump true life into the story.
Now i don't know much about Steve Soderbergh, but I would imagine he's writing and directing skills are really good.
Frankly George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Douglas, Johnny Depp, Mike Myers, Luke and Owen Wilson, Warren Beatty, Bill Murray, and John Turturro would rock the house. Attach Ed Norton to this flick and I will wet my self and likely die.
One thing I hope is they keep the same feel as the original, that rat packing sense of coolness.
This could be one of those movies, those movies you quote, those movies that give you great fictional heros, those movies that just pump honest to goodness coolness through your veins.
I can only imagine how great this movie is gonna be. this will be a ass kicker,. I'm so fucking psyched right now just thinking about it need to go.

I think this could be one of those movies as well! All i'm saying is that most people are wetting themselves over the cast. Throw that cast into a movie like 'Wild, Wild West' would you have a classic? Or the stinkpile of shit that we have all grown acustom too!

Yeah, but I think of it this way: would all those talented actors really sign on to a crappy project? That's not to say that GREAT ACTORS can't make bad movies (too many examples to note), but Soderbergh certainly has established himself as a competent director (even really good, if you look at OUT OF SIGHT), the cast is really awesome, and the story (in case some of you don't know the story is about a pack of robbers ripping off 3 Las Vegas casinos on New Year's eve) is quite a hoot.
I am looking forward to this on many different levels, but I guess I was just MOST excited about the cast...and there are apparently MORE TO COME...wow...
PS: Admittedly, I haven't seen the original.

JoBlo why are they only robbing 3 casino's in the new script, if I remeber right in the original the robbed the 5 biggest casino's in Las Vegas? I thought they would have at least this many because that was the thrill of the original, it was to see if Danny Ocean's 11 men could pull off such a hit.

Cast is important, but Story is King (as Pixar says). The greatest cast in the world can't save a crap screenplay. Likewise, the greatest screenplay in the world can't be pulled off by crap actors.
Oh, and great, respected actors sign on to bad projects all the time. There are numerous examples - Hook is the first one that comes to mind (even though I enjoyed it).
Actors do this for many reasons - they want to work with a particular director, they can't resist a $20M paycheck, or it's some sort of pet project.
Soderburgh is the trendy sort of director that A-list people will do most anything to work with. But to get this many big names, it would have to be more than just Stevie's influence.
I read that Clooney was doing a lot of schmoozing to pull in the big names. He even convinced Julia Roberts to work for $20. (That's right, no million after that $20). Of course, Wahlberg goes wherever Clooney does.
What strikes me as odd is Bill Murray's involvment. In my estimation, Bill has never done a really bad movie (Man Who Knew Too Little was not great, but not a stinker either). If he's on board, I'm betting the screenplay is up to par.
Of course, Beatty can do no wrong. Bruce Willis and Mike Myers both have a history of taking small roles with much artistic cache. (Pulp Fiction, Nobody's Fool, 54)
Another big name not mentioned in JoBlo's list that I've seen attached to this film is Robert Redford. But he's been up and down lately.
The one thing that really worries me is how can all these stars get enough screentime while still having each character thoroughly developed. No doubt many of these would have to be cameo roles.
Also, with a cast like this, why in the hell would you make Clooney the star?

Today over at AintItCool.com Harry said that Clooney said at a press junket that willis, whalberg, roberts, murray, both wilsons are confirmed and locked in as cast. KICK ASS! I hope i'm not forgetting anyone. Check it out yourself!

Allright guys...don't need another "melee" breaking out here. No need for name-calling, right Nukester? /ubb/eek.gif
I would partly agree with Specter's statement, although I must say that I am in a small minority when it comes to the CANNONBALL movies...I think they are just a riot!

This cast is great, the director is great, teh story is great, but the writer is a complete unknown. This may just be a conspiracy to get us into the theatres and take our $8 from us, and feed us an uninspired piece of junk. Hopefully not. All the stars will make a bundle I am sure. 7% of the boxoffice each? Something like that. I hear they are going for a $15 million budget.
