I, like many other Star Wars Fans, have been waiting to see who the new Anakin would be and now that they have announced it i just have one question, wasn't the new Anakin supposed to look like Jake Lloyd at least a little bit? /ubb/confused.gif

Huh. I guess I could by it a little, but Lloyd had chubbier cheeks and this guy has defined cheek bones. Could be worse I guess. /ubb/smile.gif

I think Lucas Black would have been an ideal Anakin Skywalker. He's a great actor and has that wicked touch in him. I heard he tried to get the part, but Lucas wasn't interested. Well, after the abysmal Phantom Menace I don't have high hopes for Episode 2 anyway.

LOL, you people seem to have some major problem with Star Wars. The Phantom Menace abysmal? LOL! Why? Because it's not strictly "teen" like The Matrix? Well, let's look at the box office figures to decide which was better:

TPM - $431M
Matrix - $170M

Okay. So I'm guessing the major response would be "Star Wars was hyped more!" or "Star Wars was more popular before it came out!". I'll buy that. Let's take out the first few weeks so that it's strictly on repeat viewings. Let's take the first two weeks of TPM's box office, roughly $200M, out.

This leaves TPM still outgrossing The Matrix by $61M.

Oh, and on one topic I read a series of "exhibits" about how special effects don't make a great movie.

EXHIBIT D: The Matrix

It's long, boring, convulted, horribly acted, has an extremely predictable and dumbied down story, mediocre effects (excuse me; but when the Sentinels are breaking into Morpheus' ship at the end, it looks like a friggin' cartoon).

So if Phantom Menace is abysmal, Matrix is down there with Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest. Oh yeah; I'd much rather see Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen than Keanu Reeves and "Agent Trinity" Kate Moss.

I'm a fan of Star Wars. Although The Phantom Menace didn't have as much heart and soul like the original 3, I still recommended it. As for the new Anikin, I am glad if it is ANYBODY except DiCaprio. Horaaaay!

AntBond700, do you really rate the quality of films based on their box office records? And who has even made a comparison between The Phantom Menace and The Matrix in this topic? Nobody.

I can tell you why Phantom Menace is not a good film:

1. The acting is horribly wooden. The actors are talented, but their skills are totally wasted.

2. The script is sloppy, boring and predictable. It has bad dialogue and cardboard characters.

3. Phantom Menace has very good effects, but there is nothing special about them. They look cartoonish and unimaginative. There was nothing visually original, only the usual scifi cliches.

The film has also good things. The pod race is superb and some of the other action is also decent. The effects are generally good, even if I wasn't impressed by them.

I give the film 4/10. I give The Matrix 6.5/10. It had it's flaws, but was a better film than Phantom Menace. If you want to argue about this, write a reply to my topic in the "movie questions" -section. The topic is called "The Matrix is overrated".
