I'm the guy to talk to about Kubrick. I have a huge collection of memoribilia from his autograph to original posters to a movieblock & pistol from Barry Lyndon.
As for books, there are some great ones.
For a thoroughly researched bio get "Stanley Kubrick" by Vincent Lobrutto. Baxter's bio is very good also, but for the big picture, and even pictures of Stan's dad & first wife, go for the former. The list of other essential reads
Are: A. Walker/ Stanley Kubrick Directs (just re-released in a beautiful hardcover),
M. Herr/ Kubrick (basically an extension of his heartfelt essay "The Real Stanley Kubrick" in Vanity Fair magazine)and the staple book "Inside the Film Artist's Maze"
which i feel every Kubrick fan should read or buy. The list of Kubrick books is not really that long, and being biased, I suggest reading them all because, actually, there are no bad ones. Good luck, and I'm glad to hear that you're so interested in
Kubrick. In the film universe, he has no equal. BTW, A Clockwork Orange:the Illustrated Screenplay has also just been re-released which is kick-ass, and get ready for boxed DVD sets of ACO, Full Metal Jacket, 2001 & the Kubrick Collection (2nd set-with a 2.5 hour documentary narrated by Cruise)Cheers.

Oh, I can understand your anticipation. I'm probably the biggest Kubrick fan in Canada.
Here's some info you might not know:
1. in FMJ when Cowboy is talking to "Murph"
on the radio, Murph is Kubrick himself.
Also in the beginning of the movie when Joker says "Is that you John Wayne" if you look real close cowboy smiles. (you gotta be quick to catch it)
2. In EWS when Szavost says "Do you like the period?" the line is from "True Lies" which Kubrick screened at his house with James Cameron. (he asked for permission to use the line)
3. Leon Vitali who played older Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon is the Red Cloak who tells Cruise to remove his mask at the orgy. (Vitali was Kubrick's assitant for many years)
4. Watch the film "All That Jazz" by Bob Fosse-about 15 mins into it Roy says "Do you suppose Stanley Kubrick ever gets depressed?" when he's agonizing over his film.
I could write all day on things Kubrick because I've studied his films for 13 months straight (1996-97- U of A film school) and have been a fan since my dad took me to see FMJ when it first came out.(I was 12) Now I'm watching his masterpieces age like fine wine and waiting for A.I.
